Maya's POV
I have spent ages staring at this text from Lucas, but I still don't know what to make of it.
Lucas : Riley is moving,
Maya : and?
Lucas : Riley is your BESTFRIEND
Maya : Riley doesn't even like me Lucas
Lucas : trust me she misses you more than anything
Maya : Why do you even care?
No response,
"right" I sigh,
I bite my lip debating whether or not to call him, I take a breath and dial up Lucas' number.
It rings and as it does I fiddle with my bracelet, I sit half with one leg crossed on the bed and one leg still standing up as I look out the window at the buzzing night street.
"Hello?"
I jump,
"Hi" I coo,
"what's up?"
"Lucas?"
"yeah?"
"why d-" I stop immediately just as I choke up, I don't wan't him to know how much this means to me,
he's silent on the other end,
"Lucas, why do you-" I stop again, I hold my breath, close my eyes and breathe in deeply again,
"why do you care" I pause,
"about Riley leaving" I say quickly and softly,
"Maya, Riley is our friend" he says calmly,
how can he be like this, I'm such a wreck,
"she hates me" I choke,
"she doesn't hate you, she misses you" he replies smoothly,
"well I don't miss her" I say quickly,
"oh don't be so stubborn" he protests,
"I'm not stubborn" my voice breaks but I hide it quickly so Lucas won't realise,
"we miss you" Lucas says,
suddenly my mind opens, I'm filled with thoughts, what if, what if.
no.
oh no.
"Lucas?" I ask softly,
"don't, don't - " I can't,
"don't tell me your" a tear streaks from my eye,
"Maya, your the bestest friend I could ever ask for " Lucas proceeds,
"your an amazing funny, beautiful girl".
I hold my breath, though I already know what his doing.
"Lucas" I breathe,
"your perfect" he says now atleast showing some emotion,
"your perfect for a special guy"
"I'm just, not
that guy".

Riley's POV
I'm at home right now laying in bed, my head still throbbing,
today seems like a blur all I know is,
Lucas is here and Josh is here and I miss Maya.
Outside the window I see all the city lights lit up, and I just want to be out of the enclosure that is my room.
Lucas comes in holding his phone tightly in his hands, my heart begins racing as soon as I see him and I close my eyes to pretend to be asleep,
head hurts, no time for butterflies Riley.
Now that my eyes are closed I can't seem to get that wide eyed, concerned look Lucas had on his face out of my mind,
Riley stop overthinking everything is fine, don't ruin everything as you usually do.
Josh is sitting in a chair by my side,
"you right?" he says to Lucas concerned,
I open my eyes slightly in time to see him shrug,
"I did what I needed to do" Lucas falters, "and I'm glad I did it".
"but I need to talk to you" Lucas adds,
Josh brings his eyebrows to a worried frown, but doesn't argue "okay sure".
Lucas then comes towards me,
"she okay?" Lucas gestures to me asking Josh,
"she's doing fine" Josh smiles,
Lucas comes over to my side, I try my best not to smile but my face brightens up once he is by my side.
I see him smile break, which is the first time I've seen him smile throughout the entire time at my house.
"you have a beautiful smile Riley" he cooes,
I smile wider, "I'm not smiling" I struggle to say it seriously,
Lucas laughs softly, "yeah sure".
Josh winks at me, and I beam back as he exits the room, "meet you outside Lucas, about" he pauses, "what you wanted to talk to me about?".
Lucas nods and Josh closes the door,
"I must've hit you pretty hard kid, wow I'm so sorry" he says smilling concerned,
I nod softly, "yeah" I mumble.
"I"m sorry I didn't believe you Riley" he whispers,
"It's okay" I whisper back,
"no you don't understand, what I did was wrong" Lucas says solemnly,
"I understand" I nod softly too tired to talk,
he widens his eyes, "oh wow I forgot" he awkwardly laughs,
"I should probably let you sleep".
My eyes close completely not willing to stay open anymore, and I resist continuing to fight and keep them open.
Just as Lucas is getting up a touch his arm lightly, he sense him look back,
"Lucas?" I mumble, my breath falling heavy,
"yes Riley?" he asks,
"will Maya be okay?" I falter almost drifting into sleep,
"yes, Riley" I hear a smile in his voice, "Maya is going to be okay, I've got a plan and I'm going to make sure she's okay".
"I don't care if Maya doesn't want to " I yawn, "speak to me",
"as long as she is okay-" I trail off,
"I'll be happy" I whisper,
I pull my blanket higher up, and before I know it I have gently and peacefully drifted off to sleep.
