Reed, Charles, and Jackson are following Madelyn, Lexie and Alex who stop behind Arizona, Callie and Cristina
"Do either of you three know what this big meeting's all about?" Jackson asks
"I heard there was a coup. Webber's out. Shepherd's in" Charles adds
"Is that true?" Reed asks
"We know what you know" Lexie replies
"Bull. All right? Your sister's married to the guy. And he's Madelyn's brother You expect me to believe neither of you know what's going on?" Jackson argues
"Yeah well we're not exactly talking at the moment" Madelyn mutters
"Don't you have your own loser friends to talk to?" Alex says
"I also heard Shepherd plans to clean house, maybe he'll start with you" Jackson fires back at Alex
"Dude, I'm safe. The guy is my roommate. You're the ones who should watch your backs" Alex torments
"Why? What do you know?" Charles asks
"Simple math- Shepherd hates the merger, You're from mercy west, you're toast" Alex continues to convince the former mercy westers
"Derek's not gonna fire people Just because they're from mercy west. He's not like that. He's loyal and fair" Lexie tries to reassure them
"Yeah, tell that to Webber" Alex jokes
Derek walks down the stairs and stops on the steps
"What the hell is he wearing?" Cristina says turning to Madelyn who just scrunches her face in response
"He looks good" Arizona says "Chiefly"
"He looks like an undertaker" Callie says making Madelyn chuckle
"I promised him we'd clap" Arizona says to the residents behind her
"Oh. Now?" Callie jokes earning a glare from Arizona
Madelyn smirks coming up with a plan she nudges Charles in the ribs and motions as if she's about to clap making Charles join her, except she stops before her hands touch leaving Charles to start clapping loudly by himself causing everyone to look over at him. The other residents burst out laughing as Charles shoves the girl lightly, before she can react Derek clears his throat
"Ahem, Uh thank you Percy. Um I want to thank you all for being here. I know you're busy, so I'll try to make this quick. As you may have heard, I have been appointed the new interim chief of surgery. It's my personal goal to make this transition the new interim smooth as possible. I know we've had a rocky few months"
"Here it comes" Jackson whispers
"Mistakes have been made" Derek continues
"He's talking about the merger" Alex says
Lexie tells the boy to be quiet
"I intend to right those wrongs, and, uh ..."
"Told you" Alex says again
"...Bring this hospital back to its former glory"
"former glory." Cristina mocks "Undertaker needs speechwriter"
"We are screwed" Jackson panics
"See, you are, sucker" Madelyn mocks
Richard and Larry Jennings join the crowd, which throws Derek off his game
"Check it out. Chief Webber" Callie whispers making the group look over at him
"...And, um ... What I meant ... Uh, by that is- what I'm trying to say is, I want to thank you for your support in advance. Uh, that's all. Okay, let's get back to work"
Arizona starts clapping, making a few others follow her lead

Callie and Madelyn are gathering some supplies when Lexie walks in "Hey, need some help" Lexie asks
"Uh, no. I'm good. Thanks." Callie replies
"Okay. Never mind. I need to talk to you about Mark" the girl says
Lexie starts ripping cast padding aggressively
"Could you not rip those?" Callie says
"He isn't speaking to me. He barely even looks at me. And I know that we broke up, but we still work together, And I'm gonna be a plastic surgeon" the girl continues ignoring Callie's request
"You're not gonna be a plastic surgeon" Madelyn says half laughing
"Still, okay, we're gonna have to see each other every day. I mean, he's best friends with my sister's post-it husband. I ... I don't know what to do"
"I know. He's not exactly being fair" Callie sympathises
"No, he's not being fair" Lexie says
"Hey, seriously. Go easy on the cast padding" Callie reminds the girl
"You know, at least he could be civil. I had a one-night stand. Okay, big deal. Right. It's not like he didn't sleep with Addison"
"True, more than once"
"What?" Madelyn and Lexie say at the same time
"Hmm? Nothing. I didn't say anything" Callie tries to brush off her comment
"More than once? More than once?! Oh!" Lexie exclaims as she hurries out of the room

Madelyn overhears some resident's talking by the nurses station "I heard he had some kind of mental breakdown"
"I heard it was drugs"
"No way. Prescription or-" Derek turns to them "Go practice medicine, now" he scolds before walking into the room with Richard
"Richard. This-sitting here- This isn't good. This isn't helping things. Just sign the paper. Go to rehab. Sign the paper"
Who the hell do you think you are? Who do you- Look, you are not my boss and you are not my chief. You may have stolen my office out from under me ..." Richard fires back
"You're in trouble ..."
"But you have no right..."
"And I am trying to help you like you helped me"
"I helped you! I didn't get you fired"
"You got fired the minute you took your first drink"
"Oh God" Madelyn mutters from outside the room
"Get out of my face" Richard demands
"No. No, you're not gonna do this. You're not ending your career to get back at me. I did what I had to do and nothing more"
"You look me in the eye and you say that again"
"I wanted the job. I wanted the job. I admit that. I didn't want to end your career"
"Well, that part's not up to you, is it? You did what you had to do. But this part ... Is up to me. So get out"
"No!"
Maelyn walks over to them "Stop it, both of you. People are watching"
Derek walks out "Get back to work" he orders
Madelyn follows her brother "Derek, Derek stop walking away!"
He turns to her "Maddy..."
"No, don't okay, please can we just talk"
"We don't have anything to talk about"
"Okay, now you're just lying" Madelyn scoffs
Derek pulls her into an empty room
"I did, what I had to do" Derek starts explaining
"I know, I know, I don't like it but I get it, you're my brother Derek, I trust you but you need to stop falling out with me"
He pulls her into a hug "You're right, I'm sorry"
She hugs him back "So what's your game plan"
"Well I've got a law suit to deal with already" he chuckles nervously "Oh and I'm rehiring some previous doctors"
Madelyn furrows her brows "Who?" she questions
"You'll see" Derek says walking away from his sister

Cristina is walking weirdly, which catches Alex's attention "Why are you walking like that?"
"Uh, I got a burn"
"Where?"
"Go away"
"Well, we're both doctors. No need to be embarrassed"
"I'm not embarrassed. I'm just waiting for Madelyn. Now ... Go away"
"I let you treat my tick. Come on"
"This is not a tick"
Lexie comes over, "Today sucks. Mark sucks."
"Yeah? Yang got burns on her girl parts" Alex mocks
"Oh. Oh, wow" Lexie says shocked
"I do not-it's not on- on my girl parts" Cristina defends
"Well, then they're on her ass. Look how she's walking"
"Don't you two have patients?"
"How did you get burns on your ass?" Lexie asks
Madelyn approaches them "You paged?"
"Mads, come. The rest of you, bye" Cristina shoos them away
Cristina shows Madelyn her burns "Oh, my God!"
"Not so loud" Cristina hushes the girl
"How did you ... What did ... You have grate marks burned into your ass"
"Yeah, vent marks, but same difference. I was busy having sеx. will you please just dress the wound? Owen's being very caveman-like. And it's hot- Vaguely disturbing, but mostly hot. I- I think he might still be a little upset that I offered him to teddy"
Lexie and Alex pull the curtain aside to see the burn themselves
"Alex! Alex!" Madelyn and Cristina yell
"Oh. Hot cross buns. That's gonna blister" he laughs
"Will you get them out of here?"
"Mer's paging me. Lexie, will you finish this for me?" Madelyn asks the girl
"Oh, oh, my God. I hate you"
"What ... I'll take Alex with me. Let's go. Come on" Madelyn leaves dragging Alex with her
"Is this a sеx injury?" Lexie asks but Is met with silence "Oh, my God. It is. I used to have sеx injuries with Mark. Mark was really awesome at leaving you with good ... sеx injuries. And..."
Lexie starts crying
" Please don't cry on my ass"

Madelyn is in the residents locker room getting ready to leave when Derek walks in "Hi. I know it's been a long day, And you're all anxious to get home. But I feel like we got off on the wrong foot this morning. I don't expect to win your trust overnight. But I want each of you to know ... You have mine. Which is why I felt it was important to personally come in here and, uh, apologize"

Derek is in his office with April and Megan "I want to clear some things up. I'd like to offer each of you your jobs back. Now there are gonna be cuts down the line, But you both deserve a fighting chance"
April is shocked "Oh, my God. Thank you. Dr. Shepherd, thank you."
"Thank you" Megan says
