Ink POV:
I was watching the aus, like I normally do. Luckily Error has slowed down recently. Then I remembered something. A new au had recently come into existence. 'I could go visit. Maybe introduce myself to their Sans. Give 'em a nickname.' I stood up quickly, almost falling back. I steadied myself.
"What was I doing?" I muttered to myself. "Oh right! Visiting that new au. Now where's Broomie?..." I don't like my memory sometimes. I can't remember where I left things half the-Oh right! I had been sitting on the giant paintbrush like a log. I picked it up and teleported off to Dreamtale, the new au.
I arrived in a forest. I heard voices not too far away. I made my way over and saw a little skeleton playing with...what looked like villagers of some sort. The little skeleton had a cape and a circlet that was clearly a bit big for him. He suddenly turned straight towards me.
"Hi mister! I know your over there." He waved towards me.
"Dream there's nothing-" The villager stopped as I walked completely into view. "Never mind."
"Oh! You're a skeleton too!" The little skeleton, who I believe is Dream, said before running up to me.
"Yep. I'm Ink. You?" I expected him to reply with Sans.
"That's a cool name! I'm Dream Sans. But most people just call be Dream." Huh. He kind of already has his own nickname.
"Dreeeaaam come on! We were in the middle of a game. You can talk to this guy later." One of the villagers said.
"O-okay. See you later." Dream gave me a wave before going back to who I assumed were his friends. I returned it.
'I should probably go find his brother. Make sure they're doing fine too.' I thought. I began wandering around, looking for a Papyrus au.
As I continued though, I didn't fine another skeleton. 'Does Dream not have a brother?' I thought. I know some aus don't, like me, but most do. I was standing on a path in the forest that was near a river. I don't remember how I got here, but I did. I heard a splash nearby, followed by a shout. I jogged over and some different villagers run off. 'What'd they throw in the water?" I looked towards the water right as someone walked out of it. It was another skeleton. He looked a lot like Dream, but he wore a purple tunic, didn't have a cape, and his circlet had a flat space in the front with a crescent moon carved out of it.
"Great." He muttered as he shook his wrists a little. "Are you just going to stare, over there?" He asked in the direction I was. 'How does everyone know where I am?' I peeked over the rock I was hidden behind.
"Did they shove you in the water?" I asked.
"No shit, Sherlock." Okay he was definitely more hostile than Dream. "What do you want? To shove me in here too?"
"No."
"Then leave. I'm not one for talking to people or monsters." He said. He began walking in the opposite direction. I got up and followed him.
"Well what's your name? I'm Ink."
"I hate my name."
"Oh. Do you go by another?"
"No."
"Well No, I think we'll be great-"
"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" No shoved me away and ran.
'Well that was rude.' I thought. 'What happened to make him so upset? Most aus are fine. Also does this au have two Sanses? Because that was not a Papyrus.' I thought excitedly. 'Wait are they brothers?'
I needed to figure this out. Those villagers don't seem to like me. Or that skeleton. Maybe I can get on his good side. I walked up the path the wet skeleton had taken. Soon it led to a tree. It was a beautiful tree. One side had golden apples, the other, black. The skeleton was no where to be seen though.
"Oh! Hello Ink!" I turned around and saw Dream running over.
"Hey."
"I see you found the tree-Night! Are you here?" 'Night. Is that his name?' I heard a groan from in the tree. "Nightmare! Come down here! I have a new friend I want you to meet!"
"Dream this is the 16th friend this week."
"So? Come on!" Dream pleaded. I heard a sigh from in the tree. Soon the same skeleton I saw at the river came down.
"Oh." 'Nightmare' said. "I've already met him. Let me read in peace."
"Brother!" They are brothers! "Be nice!" No reply. "Fine. I'll come back later then." Dream walked off.
"Hey, uh, Nightmare, right?" He crossed his arms.
"No."
"Alright fine." I'll try tomorrow. I teleported back to the doodlesphere.
...
I arrived back in Dreamtale around noon. I walked to the tree and saw some of those villagers there. I walked closer in the nearby trees for cover. I almost gasped when I saw what they were doing. They were beating up Nightmare. And he was crying and taking it. He didn't seem like that type yesterday when I met him at the river. And that's just mean! He may be a bit rude, but he didn't do anything! I summoned Broomie and went to stop them.
Night POV:
It all just stopped suddenly. I looked up and saw the Ink guy fending them off. 'For me? Why? I'm not worth that.' I thought. The villagers ran back scared. Then Ink came up to me.
"Please don't hurt me." I was done trying to be tough. I was in pain and scared.
"I'm not going to. Can you look at me?" I slowly looked up and him. "Jeez, they really don't like you, do they?"
"Shut up." I told him.
"Look, I'm going to help you. Wait here." Ink vanished.
'What is wrong with this guy? Why does he care so much?' Ink soon returned with bandaids. He put them on my cuts as I tried to stop him.
"Why won't you let me be your friend?" Ink asked as he finished.
"Why do you..." I saw Ink get a bit annoyed.
"I just want to be your friend-"
"WELL I DON'T WANT A FRIEND!" I shouted back. "Those bullies that hurt me are Dream's friends. If that's what 'friends' are like, I don't want any!" I felt more tears spilling out of my eyes. "Just let me be."
I felt someone hug me. I just cried against them, not caring who it was.
"Shh." I recognized Ink's voice. "That's not how good friends act. I can show you how good friends act." I smiled a little. A good friend? I want to try that.
"O-okay. Thank you Ink." I said.
Let's see how a good friend works.
~Years Later~
I sat on ground smiling. Ink was going to arrive in a couple minutes and I had a letter for him. A love letter. The artist had grown on me in the last couple years and Dream encouraged me to do this. He was hiding in the tree right now, watching.
Ink appeared out of a puddle in front of me.
"Hi Night!"
I held out the letter to him. Ink took it and opened it. I turned away as he read it. When he looked back up at me I blushed.
"I-I understand if you don't-"
Ink sat beside me and kissed my cheek. My blush exploded across my face. I turned to him too and kissed him directly on his 'lips' this time. Ink grabbed my tunic and pulled me closer. I wrapped my arms around his neck. Ink pulled away a few seconds later.
"Of course I love you too. Why do you think I defended you all those years ago?" He kissed my forehead too.
I felt like I could cry.
"Thank you."
"Aww.." I'd forgotten about Dream. I buried my face onto Ink's scarf out of embarrassment.
He chuckled and hugged me.
"I love you." Ink muttered. I smiled.
