Colby's POV
"Are we gonna talk about what's going on between you and Jules or...?" Sam asked as I drove us to base.
"What's there to talk about?" I hummed. "Gee, I don't know. You guys were pretty affectionate with eachother this morning." Corey said with a laugh.
"Were we?" I asked with fake confusion. "Oh my god. You're exhausting." Sam said as I pulled up to the base.
"She admitted that she loves me too. That's all." I said with a shrug. "I didn't think this day would ever come. I'm happy for you though." Sam said with a grin.
"Thanks, man. We have to really focus today though. Jules said that Will was acting suspicious. Don't mention her while we are here. The less attention we put on her, the better." I said then parked the car.
"Whipped Colby is back." Corey said as I nodded. "No. Protective Colby is back and if you cross me I'll cut you." I said as he chuckled.
"Mhm." He hummed as we got out of the car. I was a little nervous to bring the guys down to our base.
The last time they were here was when Julia was basically dead.
I hadn't been fully appointed to the secret society and it was technically disbanded at that point since there was no leader.
Things were different and dangerous now.
"Nobody speaks. I know you guys know how this works." I said and led the way towards the elevator.
"Yeah, we'll be on our best behavior." Sam said as Corey nodded.
"Smart of you to leave Jake the first day." Corey said with a laugh.
"Yeah, love the guy but the idea of him being down here stresses me out." I said then opened the door.
When we got downstairs, I put a harder look on my face. I was pissed off that they let Adam escape but after hearing that Will was acting suspicious, it was probably intentional.
"Mr. Brock. Welcome back." Steve said from behind the front desk.
I glared at him and kept walking, not wanting to even greet him.
Everyone needed to know I was mad.
I didn't bother going to my office and went straight to Will's.
"Oh! Wasn't expecting you here." Will said as I opened the door.
"I hope you enjoyed your little moment of being in charge." I said as he looked behind me, seeing the guys.
"They aren't allowed down here." He said as I shook my head. "I'm in charge. They're fine." I said blandly.
"I need to speak with you about an issue." I said and slowly walked in front of him.
"In front of them?" Will asked as I clenched my jaw. "If you're gonna keep talking back I'll make sure you never speak at all." I snapped, narrowing my eyes at him.
"Sorry." Will said, putting his hands up in defense.
"What have you been up to?" I asked, getting straight to the point. If he was being shady, he wouldn't truthfully answer this question but I had other things up my sleeve.
"Working on drug routes and jobs. All I did was take over what you do." Will said as I nodded.
"You'll need to brief me on exactly what you've been doing." I said and crossed my arms.
"Of course. Whenever you'd like." He said with a nod. I couldn't help but smirk at how quickly he was folding.
I wasn't even close to done though.
"Now." I said then looked at Sam and Corey. They both grinned at me then closed the door.
"They can't be in here for this." Will said and looked at Sam and Corey. "I don't think you remember who's actually in charge." I said and sat in the chair across from him.
We spent the next couple hours going through everything he was doing.
As of now nothing was suspicious but I would have to keep a close eye on him before I even thought about bringing up the fact that Julia was still here.
I didn't want to involve her in the craziness of this life.
It was going to be hard to shield her from it but I wasn't going to leave her. I would protect her as fiercely as I possibly could.
"Alright. I'll be watching you." I said to Will as he nodded. "I have nothing to hide, sir." He said as I turned to leave the room.
"Good. Let's keep it that way." I said then left with Sam and Corey.
When we got to my office, I unlocked the door, chuckling to myself about how Julia made fun of my passcode.
Not many people knew my birthday and especially none of the gang members did. It had never been an issue to have the passcode be that.
"Honestly, you're kind of a badass." Corey said as Sam closed the door. "Yeah, you guys thought I was bad when I was in charge of you." I said with a laugh.
"You're softer on us." Sam said with a chuckle. "Because you don't typically make stupid mistakes." I said then sat down.
"So what are we doing today?" Corey asked as they sat across from me.
"Not really sure yet. We need to find Adam and kill him, he's causing way too much trouble." I said with a sigh.
"The governor actually has it out for him, so we won't do the killing. We'll let him get tortured so he can rat his little gang out." I said with a grin.
"Damn, you get the governor involved in your crimes?" Sam asked as I nodded.
"If we behave and do what he says then we are taken care of in the state of Washington." I said as they nodded.
"Sick." Corey said with a chuckle. "So we basically have to find him to turn him in at this point." I said and looked something up on my computer.
"He's really good at escaping, huh?" Sam asked as I rolled my eyes.
"Annoyingly so." I said with a sigh then focused on my computer.
I ended up working for an hour or so, getting things organized again before I sent people on their missions for the day.
"Alright, time for some action." I said and looked at the guys. "Hell yeah." Corey said as he and Sam stood up.
"What are we doing?" Sam asked as I checked my gun to make sure it was ready to use. "Gonna go kill someone." I said with a chuckle.
"My favorite task." Corey said and clapped his hands together. "Yeah. It'll be fun." I said then led the way out of the room.
It felt good to be back in the action with the people I considered to be my brothers.
Being back on our mission of killing a drug dealer that killed a senators kid wasn't a typical way to bond with your friends but it was how we worked.
I wouldn't want to do this job with anyone else.
"That was fucking fun." Sam said as we got back into my car. "Yeah, I think we should talk about maybe having you guys join secret society." I said with a grin and started the car.
"You know we would love to, but we can't move everyone up here." Sam said with a sigh.
I knew that it logistically couldn't happen but I missed having them all around.
Now that Jules was back in my life I didn't want to be a part of the secret society as much.
I didn't want her near the danger that was this gang.
There was no stepping down there. There was only one way to get out of it.
I would have to be killed.
"I should have never left." I said and started driving back to my place. "I knew you regretted it for Jules but do you regret it for our gang, too?" Sam asked as I nodded.
"Yeah. I do." I admitted and focused on the road.
It was hard to grasp the concept that I would rather be less successful but I guess it wasn't so crazy to want to be surrounded by people who made you happy.
We drove in silence for a little while before we got to the store. I wanted to grab a couple things so Julia wouldn't be bored.
I knew it would suck feeling so trapped again and I hoped that one day there would maybe be a time where we could live freely.
I wanted her to be able to go to the grocery store by herself. I wanted her to have friends and be able to go out with them.
I wanted to be able to talk Julia on a date without a gun being in my pocket.
There was never a point where I could fully relax with her because people were constantly out to get us.
It just wasn't fair to Julia for her to have to live like this.
