Chapter 21: The True Narrator-man

By Milanyon

Back at the hideout between realities, smart-man was leaning against the tube of the teleportation tube.

He looked very disturbed but a glimmer of determination flickered in his eyes and he composed himself.

"Where is she..."
He thought.

He slowly made his way to the other side of the room towards the door which lead to the main hall of the narrator-man university between realities.

He opened it.

What he found was a black void.

"Ahh!"
He nearly fell through.
His voice echoed within the void.

"Are there wall-men in here?"
For his voice to bounce back at him there needed to be something within that void.

He felt that if there were no walls, maybe something was lurking within this pure darkness.

But then he blinked and in front of him was the usual hallway he expected to see.

"What... is that what you meant, Serenity-man?"
He looked around and made sure no one was going to see him walk around.

"If what she said is true-man.."

As smart-man made his way to the universities principal office, he recollects his conversation with the boss monster-man known as Serenity.

-

"Nice-man to meet you.. I guess-man."
The two got their introductions out of the way.

"So what about the narrator-man? Do you mean he is your boss-man?"
Smart-man asked, trying to confirm his suspicion.

"Not exactly."
She said.
"They are the bridge to our true masters."

The boss monster takes a good look at smart-man and noticed something.

"Are you alright?"
A green tint was slowly creeping up his neck. From his full-body costume it was hard to determine how far this green color had already spread.

"Looks like you are running on a time limit."

He nodded.

"Its a miracle that you are even conscious. Most other men would have given in to the zombification at the stage you are at right now."

In his mind he knew that idiot-man's presence gave him the determination needed to hold his condition off, but not anymore.

"I used to travel-man with someone.. but she's gone-man now.. it's thanks to her that I can stand-man here right now."
He said with determination clearly flickering in his eyes.

"Where is she now?"
The monster rudely asked.

"I told-man you... she's gone-man.. do you not know-man what that means?"
He frustratingly answered.

The monster shook her head.
"Remember how I told you that the hero before you had blood on his hands?"

Smart-man began to understand.

"It was.. his comrad-men's blood-men.."
He surmised.

"Indeed.."

He glanced over to basic-man.

"He was forced to kill the once he loved the most, just as the truth had foretold."

"WHAT?!"
He stared at her square in the face.
He thought he had misheard.

"The narrator-men enjoy having a tragic hero fighting for humanity."

Realization kicked in.

"You two men are the ones to give this world-man hope-man."
He remembered narrator-man's words.

He said that after he saw her corpse.
He said it as if she was still of use.

"What is he going to do to her?"
Smart-man asked.

The monster frowned.
"If you want to check on her, I won't stop you. Don't worry, I won't be running away from this place. Just as the truth foretold, we shall meet again."

"The truth-man.."
Smart-man thought.
"What is the truth-man anyway?"
He wondered.

He was about to say the words to return to the university between realities, but the monster gave him one last advice.

"There is something hidden within the home of the narrators. Don't let it take you."

-

Smart-man reached the door to the principal office.
His body hurt all over.
He felt his mind slowly and steadily slipping away from him.

"No.. I need more time-man..."

He opened the door.

Inside he found the lonesome principal.
He acted a bit nervous after seeing smart-man suddenly enter without knocking.

"Oh.. hello there, smart-man. Howsitgoin?"
He stumbled over his words.

Smart-man scanned the room.
"Where is narrator-man?"

The principal nervously waved his hands around.
"Ah you know-man.. here-man there-man.."

A sound filled the room
The creaking of a door but it was too high pitched to come from the one door smart-man entered from.

The sound came from the principals direction.

It came from the small model house on his desk.

Something small exited the model house, it looked like an ant because it was too small for him to figure out what it actually was.

Then he walked towards smart-man and with each step it began to grow.

After it was right in front of smart-man, narrator-man was revealed to stand on top of the principals desk, hands on his hips, standing proud.

"Hi, smart-man. Back so early-man?"

"Where is idiot-man?"
Smart-man asked.

Narrator-man shook his head.
"You seemed to have some problem-men with your mission-man so I thought I would give you some help-man."

Out of the little model house appeared another figure.

It grew and grew.

"What... how are you.."
Smart-man was perplexed.

"Isn't it great-man? I brought her back-man! Sorry for lying-man to you, but now you don't need to feel sad-man anymore, smart-man."
Narrator-man explained.

In front of smart-man was a man that strongly resembled idiot-man, but something was wrong with her.

As he was staring at her, idiot-man's hand fell off.

"Ahh.. it was hard-man to find a replacement-man for that.."
Narrator-man said as he picked up the hand.

"You didn't happen to have the hand-man she lost-man, do you?"
Narrator-man said as he reattached the hand.

"What have you done to her..?"
Smart-man asked.

"Now if you start questioning-man it, it's gonna lose its magic-man. You can go on adventure-men again. Isn't that nice-man?"
Narrator-man explained.

Smart-man averted his gaze off narrator-man out of slight irritation and took a good look at idiot-man, or the thing that looked like her.

Her eyes lost their shimmer, her skin was pale, the skin color of the hand didn't fully match her body.

But then he noticed it.

The bruises of when idiot-man fell were still all on her.
His skin turned completely green.
The zombification is in its last stages.

"Oh... so this had the opposite effect-man, huh..."
Narrator-man walked closer to smart-man and grabs his chin to look at his face.

"You just had to get yourself zombified-man.. I had hoped the surprise-man of seeing her again would cure you but, oh well my man..."

The principal cowered in the corner.
Just what was their real relationship, the relationship between the principal and the narrator-man? When they first met he seemed so cooperative but now he seemed afraid of him.

"Who are you... narrator-man?"
Smart-man asked as he endured the burning sensation all over his skin.

Narrator-man went to open the door smart-man used to enter the principal office.

"Do it."
Right after narrator-man said those words, idiot-man pushed smart-man very hard towards the door.

"Aaaah!!"
He feared to hit the door and break something. He still felt guilty about ruining Serenity's castle-like headquarters.

But then narrator-man swiftly opened the door as swifty swiftyness aswifted.

He was flung through the door.
The expected hallway was not there, but only the darkness of the void surrounded him.. wait... how is he supposed to continue?

"You blink-man, you lose-man!"

Smart-man was not sure what narrator-man meant by that, but in his mind, smart-man heard the voice of someone who was rooting for him.

"If you blink the exit will vanish!!!"
The beautiful voice in his head said.

Smart-man tried as hard as he could, but he couldn't endure the feeling of his eyeballs drying out in addition to the pain of his skin burning and prickling.

As he closed his eyes he reminisces on his time with idiot-man.

Then he saw the new idiot-man in his mind.

Dead.

That thing was just a walking corpse.
Not a zombie, but flesh that was made to move.

If she was a zombie she would have had green skin and say stuff about eating brains.

"Why can't he just let her rest-man.."
He said as he was falling through the void.

His tears left a trail in the air.

He fell into the darkness endlessly.

The End..?

Back at the principals office.
"What a shame I had to dispose-man of him."

Narrator-man complained.

I guess basic-man really is the main character now.

Narrator-man put his hand on the shoulder of the body of idiot-man.

And then they vanished, not in a flash but something that resembled the truth.

"Who are you?"

I hear a voice behind me asking for my identity.

"You don't look like a narrator-man. Just what are you?"

I have been questioned of what I am.

"Why won't you answer-man?"

Idiot-man and narrator-man somehow managed to enter the domain of the truth where the narrator resides.
A place outside of reality.

"Answer me!"
Narrator-man demanded.

The answer would destroy you.

"I ruined your narrative-man, didn't I?"

Not necessarily. Now that I think about it, there is a way to save him.

You can't threaten me.

Narrator-man became irritated and let his pet loose.

The lifeless idiot-man lunged at the current narrator but hits nothing as his physical form is fundamentally different than that of the men or the monsters.

"Is that.. the truth-man?"
I am unsure what he is referring to, but indeed, the truth is within this realm.

He must have enough connection to this place to perceive it.

As he reached for it, narrator-man found himself back at the principal office.

He clenched his fist.

"I'm not worthy yet, huh?"

He walks out of the door with confidence.
