Hannah hears the EKG machine beeping as she turns to her right to see the machine.
Am I... in a hospital?
Hannah looks around and finds herself inside a hospital room. Hannah tries to get up.
I can't move my legs? Why can't I move my legs?
Hannah just sits up and takes the nasogastric tube off her nose. Hannah suddenly notices the scars on both her wrist.
I remember. I tried to end it. But, I'm alive. How am I alive? Why am I alive? This wasn't supposed to happen.
Hannah Baker: (Weakly) Hello? Hello?
A janitor comes by as he is mopping the hallway.
Hannah Baker: (Weakly) Hello.
The janitor barely hears Hannah and he turns towards her room and sees her.
Janitor: Oh, hello. Is everything alright?
Hannah Baker: (Weakly) Help.
Janitor: Help? Do you need a nurse?
Hannah nods at him.
Janitor: I'll get a nurse. Hold on.
The janitor sets his mop to the side as he goes to search for a nurse. Hannah looks back at her scars.
They're healed up. How long was I out?
Meanwhile back at the Walker house...
Bryce Walker: The fuck are you 2 doing?
Justin Foley: Just hold on.
Bryce gets closer as Clay now points the gun towards him.
Clay Jensen: He's gonna keep doing it. We have to stop him.
Justin Foley: Not like this.
Bryce Walker: I'm calling the cops.

Clay lowers the gun as he looks Justin in the eyes. Justin slowly get closer to Clay as he takes the gun away from him.

Justin Foley: You're gonna go back inside and you're gonna pour yourself another glass of whiskey, and you're gonna forget that we were ever here, got it?
Justin leads Clay towards his car as he opens the passenger door as Clay gets in.

Justin closes the passenger door as he makes his way to the driver's side.

Justin gets in the car and drives away. As Justin is driving along...

Back at the hospital, the janitor finds a nurse.
Janitor: Hey, nurse. Someone is calling for help.
Nurse: Who?
Janitor: The girl in room 303.
Nurse: 303? You mean Hannah Baker?
Janitor: I don't know her name, but she's calling for help.
Nurse: But... she's supposed to be in a coma.
Janitor: Well, not no more.
The nurse runs toward Hannah's room. The nurse arrives to Hannah's room and sees her sitting up on her bed.
Nurse: Oh, my god!
Hannah Baker: (Weakly) Help.
The nurse enters the room and serves me a cup of water. She hands me the cup as I drink it all.
Hannah Baker: Thank you.
Nurse: I'll get the doctor.
The nurse leaves the room as she goes to find my doctor. A minute later, the doctor come in.
Doctor: My god.
The Doctor checks up on me. He examine my eyes first.
Doctor: Do you know who you are?
Hannah Baker: Yes.
Doctor: What's your name?
Hannah Baker: Hannah. Hannah Baker.
Doctor: Do you remember what happened to you?
Of course I remember. Bryce Fucking Walker.
Hannah Baker: I tried killing myself.
Doctor: Why?
Hannah Baker: I have my reasons. How am I alive?
Doctor: You were lucky. When your parents found you in the bathtub they called 911. The paramedics got there in time, you still had a pulse. They rushed you here and we saved you.

Doctor: Because that's what we do. We save lives.
Hannah Baker: I can't move my legs.
Doctor: Well, you have been in a coma for 5 months.
Hannah Baker: 5 Months?
5 Months? I've been in a coma for 5 months? What has happened since then?
Justin was able to lose whoever was following them. The arrive home...
Justin Foley: (Sighs) We're clear. What the hell was that?
Clay Jensen: Probably the person fucking with all of us.

Olivia Baker's phone rings as it wakes her up. She answers the phone...
Olivia Baker: Hello?
Nurse: Hello, is this the parent of Hannah Baker?
Olivia Baker: Yes, I'm her mother.
Nurse: Mrs. Baker, your daughter has woken up from her coma.
Olivia sits up with her eyes widen.
Olivia Baker: What?
Nurse: Your daughter is awake. The doctor is attending to her right now.
Olivia hangs up and immediately puts her shoes own and puts on a coat. She calls Andy as he answers the call.
Andy Baker: Liv, what's...
Olivia Baker: She's awake. Hannah woke up. The hospital called. Our daughter is awake.
Andy hangs up as he prepares to depart to the hospital. She grabs her car keys and immediately makes her way to the hospital. She arrives to the hospital as she makes her way up to the floor where Hannah is. Olivia exit the elevator as she is greeted by Hannah's doctor.
Doctor: Mrs. Baker...
Olivia Baker: How is she? Can I see her?
Doctor: She's doing fine. Confused at first, but fine.
Olivia begins to tear down. The elevator doors opens as Andy emerges out of there.
Andy Baker: Where is she?
Doctor: She's in her room. The nurse is doing some routines for comatose patients.
Andy Baker: But she's alright?
Doctor: She's fine.
Andy & Olivia are relieved that Hannah is alright.
Doctor: She only knows that she was in a coma for 5 months. She does not know about the trial and everything that's been happening. She doesn't know that you 2 are separated. I figured that you'll be the ones to tell her everything.
Olivia Baker: Thank you, doctor.
The nurse makes her way out.
Nurse: Doctor, she's ready.
Doctor: Are you ready to see your daughter?
Andy & Olivia nod at the doctor. The doctor leads them to her room.
I see my doctor entering my room.
Doctor: Hannah, there are some people who love to see you.
The doctor moves out of the way... Oh, my god!
Hannah Baker: Mom! Dad! I'm so sorry.
Andy & Olivia run to Hannah as they hug her. All 3 of them in tears.
I thought I was never going to see them again. They pull me in for a hug. Have to admit, I'm glad to see them.

Andy Baker: Don't think about it. We're just glad that you're alive.

Andy & Olivia spend the night in the hospital with Hannah. They don't talk about the attempt, they're just happy that Hannah is back. The next morning, Olivia texts to everyone that Hannah has awoken from her coma. Zach arrives to the Standall home to see Alex. They knock on the door but Alex doesn't answer. They begin to worry as they barge in.
Zach Dempsey: Alex!
Alex Standall: What? I'm awake.
Alex was asleep as he wakes up.

Alex's mother goes up to Alex's stand and picks up a bag of candy's.

Laine Jensen: Justin, that's not what happened.

Laine Jensen: I'm back. And I need to speak to Justin privately. After breakfast. I heard last night that you're going to testify today. And while I like Dennis Vasquez very much, he does not represent your interests. I wanna make sure that you understand everything that's at stake for you before you testify.

After having breakfast, Clay goes up to his room as Justin speaks with Laine about his testimony. After talking with Laine, Justin prepares for court.
Clay Jensen: Well, what did she tell you?
Justin Foley: Nothing important. Just walked me through how the day's gonna go.
Clay Jensen: What did she say was at stake?
Justin Foley: Mostly everything you already know. Damn it.
Justin is having a tough time putting on his tie.

Justin takes his tie off and hands it to Clay as he helps out Justin.

Clay ties up Justin's tie as he puts it on him.
Clay Jensen: (Sighs) Who said I stopped?
Justin begins to adjust the tie.
Justin Foley: Just don't lose your shit, okay? Man, you really freaked me out last night. Where'd you get the gun?
Clay Jensen: I borrowed it from a friend.
Justin Foley: Well, give it back.
Clay Jensen: Yeah. No, yeah, for sure.
Justin finishes putting on the tie, but it doesn't look good.

Justin Foley: Bryce used to tie them for me. I never really learned how.
Clay fixes up Justin's tie as his phone dings. After fixing Justin's tie, Clay picks up his phone and read the text he received. He was speechless.
Justin Foley: What is it?
Clay just stands there and looks at his phone.
Justin Foley: Clay? What's wrong?
Clay looks at Justin and show him the text he received.
Justin Foley: Holy shit!
Clay Jensen: She's awake.
Back at the hospital, Andy & Olivia have been comforting Hannah all morning. They told her that Tony gave them copies of the tapes and they've listened to the tapes. Hannah has been apologizing to them non stop.
Hannah Baker: I just couldn't take it anymore. Bryce broke me.
Andy Baker: He's not going to hurt you anymore. As soon as you're ready, we're going to the police.
Olivia Baker: In the mean time, Justin will tell the court what Bryce did to Jessica.
Hannah Baker: Justin? Court?
Olivia Baker: Since you didn't leave a note behind, instead you made tapes, we've been digging around for any reason why you did it. We went through your Facebook and found out you were being bullied at school. We sued the school.
Hannah Baker: You sued the school?
Andy Baker: It went to trial. Olivia, you should get going. I'll stay with her, tell her everything.
Olivia Baker: Will you be okay?
Hannah Baker: Yeah, I'll be alright.
Olivia Baker: I've texted your friends. Told them that you're awake.

Olivia Baker: The one's who've tried to help you in court. I'll be back after Justin testifies.
Olivia gives Hannah a kiss on the head as she leaves for the courthouse.

Andy agreed as he leaves Hannah's room. She begin to cry over her parent's separation. At the Jensen's house, Clay has informed his parents that Hannah has woken up from her coma. They were relived to hear the good news. Clay sits on the steps of his front porch as he's still hallucinating Hannah.
Hannah Baker: I like the way you're taking care of Justin. He really is just a sweet, injured boy.
Clay Jensen: Yeah, and girls are suckers for that. Wait, why am I still seeing you? You're awake now.
Hannah Baker: I don't know, you tell me. You know, we're also suckers for the angry, vengeful hero types.
Clay Jensen: I was gonna kill him, Hannah. I was ready to. But is Justin right? Is that not what you want?
Hannah Baker: I want you to forgive me. But maybe that's the one thing in the world you won't do for me.
Clay thinks about it real hard.

Hannah disappears as Justin comes out walking out.
Justin Foley: Your parents said we could drive together. And they'll be right behind us in one of the other Priuses.
Justin reaches to Clay's Prius and finds a note. He shows it to Clay and the note says "YOU TALK YOU DIE". At school, Chlöe & Bryce are in the vice principal's office getting disciplinary action for The Clubhouse. Bryce assures Chlöe that there's no box of polaroids and that Zach is making it all up to make him look bad. Justin & Clay arrive to court as Justin meets with Dennis & Oiliva about his testimony.
Dennis Vasquez: If we're going to establish a pattern of behavior, your testimony needs to contradict his claim that he's never forced himself on another student.
Justin Foley: Okay.
Dennis Vasquez: It all comes down to whether the jury believes you, so... Ms. Struhl is gonna do whatever she can to discredit you on the cross. She's gonna bring up everything. Do you understand?
Justin Foley: Yeah, I understand.
Olivia Baker: Justin, you can't do this halfway. If you leave them any room to doubt you, they will. Bryce fooled them yesterday.
Justin Foley: Yeah, I'll do my best, Mrs. Baker.
Olivia Baker: Has someone threatened you about your testimony? The bruises on your face, did Bryce do that?
Justin Foley: No.
Olivia Baker: Are you afraid of him?
Justin Foley: Not a goddamn bit. How is she doing?
Olivia Baker: She's doing fine. She's alive, that's all that matters.
Justin Foley: Are they going to make her testify?
Dennis Vasquez: They can't. She just woke up from a 5 month coma, even the doctor's won't let her.

Meanwhile at Liberty, Tyler is in the dark room developing pictures when Cyrus comes barging in.

Cyrus begins making his way out.

Cyrus leaves the dark room now concern for Tyler after saying that they can end those motherfuckers. He decides to go to Principal Bolan and turn himself & Tyler in for concern for Tyler. At the hospital, Jessica arrives as she exits the elevator and sees Andy sitting in the wait room.
Jessica Davis: How is she doing?
Andy Baker: She's alive, thank god for that. She can't move her legs, so it's gonna take while before she can start walking around. She'll have to go through physical therapy. I told her that we sued the school, we've listened to the tapes, and then she kicked me out of the room when I told her that her mother & I are separated, getting a divorce, & that I'm back with the woman I had a affair with.
Jessica Davis: Jesus. Did you tell her everything?
Andy Baker: Not everything. The nurse is checking up on her. You can go and see her if you want. I'm just waiting on her to cool down before she can let me back in.
The nurse checked my vitals and blood pressure. After she was done, they brought me hospital food. Wish I had better food than this. As I'm eating my food, I hear a knock. I look to see who it is. I couldn't believe she came.
Jessica Davis: Hi.
Jessica.
Hannah Baker: Hi.
Tear begin coming down from both of our eyes. She comes running at me as we embrace each other in a hug.
Jessica Davis: (Crying) I'm so sorry.
Hannah Baker: (Crying) No, I should be sorry. I could've stopped him.
Jessica Davis: (Crying) And I never should've left you in the hot tub that night and never should've slapped you. I'm just glad you're alive.
We let go of each other. I really missed her. I missed having my best friend.
As Jessica & Hannah have a moment, Justin has already begun testifying. Clay sat in the courtroom with next to his parents & Tony who was dropped off by Caleb.
Justin Foley: Being friends with him, it was about loyalty. But it was also about fear.
Dennis Vasquez: And how would you describe Mr. Walker's relationships with girls? Were they fear-based as well?

Justin Foley: She was really kind and funny. I liked her from the first time I saw her. We only had 1 real date, but it was... it was nice. I walked her home, then I went home. But I couldn't sleep. And I got in, like, a fight with my mom's boyfriend. I texted Hannah, and she said to come over.She just let me sleep there all night. She slept on her own floor. I knew Bryce wasn't gonna leave it alone. I knew I'd have to tell him something. I don't know why that was more importantto me than doing right by Hannah. Friendship, I guess. Being a man. Wanting him to think I was more than I was somehow. Maybe Bryce sent it around because he was jealous. Or maybe because he's just cruel. I don't know. I don't know why people send around photos like that. Bryce did shi... stuff like that all the time.
Coach Rick talks to Bryce about the Clubhouse. He tells Bryce that the team is his priority and asks if he would know anything about the Baker's store being vandalized. Bryce denies it and Coach Rick tells him that he doesn't want to hear anymore about the polaroids or about Hannah Baker. It was Coach Rick who granted his players access to The Clubhouse. Justin continues testifying.
Dennis Vasquez: Tell me what you saw when you went back into the room that night.
Sonya Struhl: We'll renew our objection. Irrelevant and inflammatory.
Dennis Vasquez: We're establishing that Bryce Walker engaged in a pattern of behavior and that the school was aware. The defense claims no such behavior took place. We have a right to respond.
Judge: Witness will answer.
Justin Foley: (Stammers) I went back into the room. Jessica was passed out and Bryce was standing over her, and his... his pants were unzipped. And she had her panties off and she wasn't moving. Her eyes were closed. It... It was like she was dead. I tried to pull him off, but he shoved me out and locked the door. I just sat there listening. Listening to him... and her. It... It sounded like she started to wake up.
Dennis Vasquez: Did you think of calling the police or calling for help?
Justin Foley: I did. I... But I was afraid.
Dennis Vasquez: Afraid of what?
Justin Foley: I don't know. Afraid of losing my best friend. My girlfriend. My entire life. Which I guess I already lost. I'll regret this forever.
Back at Liberty, Zach & Alex have been looking everywhere for Monty. Alex exits the school's office after asking about Monty.
Zach Dempsey: What's up?
Alex Standall: So... they don't know about yesterday, but he missed the first three periods today.
Zach Dempsey: How'd you get that out of Ms. Douglas?
Alex Standall: It's the cane, dude. Told her that he was supposed to help me with PT.
Zach Dempsey: But I help you with that.
Alex Standall: Clearly it was a lie, Zach. Oh, my God. What's next?
Zach Dempsey: We need Clay and Tony.
I've spent the last half hour talking to Jessica. We've talked about the tapes and the stuff I've left out. We've even talked about me & Zach. Then I tell her about that day.
Hannah Baker: It hurt like hell. I could feel even more pain. That was the last thing I remembered before I woke up last night.
Jessica Davis: When I listened to the tapes, I was in denial. Justin told me you lied on the tapes, course I believed him. No one believed you about tape 9. Everyone just denied what you said on the tapes. But Clay did. He was the only one who reached out to me and tried to help, but I wouldn't let him because I told him the tapes were bullshit. Then Justin told me the truth. I've hated both him & Bryce since then. Clay offered to burn the tapes after he listened to all of them. I told him don't burn them. I then told my parents what happened. They took me to the police station to report Bryce... but I couldn't do it.
Hannah Baker: How has Clay been?
Jessica Davis: (Sighs) Clay needs a smack in the head. While he was listening to the tapes, he was losing his mind.
Hannah Baker: What do you mean?
Jessica Davis: Last November, he & Courtney were giving the exchanged students a tour around Liberty and went on rant. He started blaming us & the school for what you did. He even keyed Zach's car after listening to his tape.
Hannah Baker: He keyed Zach's car?
Jessica Davis: And paid for the damages. Justin & Marcus were hell bent on taking down Clay.
Hannah Baker: Of course they would.
Jessica Davis: When we listened to Tyler's tape, we just threw rocks at his window. But Clay... he didn't throw a rock. Instead he took a picture of Tyler's naked rear ass and sent it around school like the way Bryce did to you.
Hannah Baker: Clay, no. He's better than that.
Jessica Davis: I know, he wasn't thinking straight. Justin even suggested ending Clay once and for all and making it look like a suicide.
Is she serious? Justin wanted to kill Clay?
Jessica Davis: Of course we all said no. So Marcus came up with a plan of his own. He planted drugs in Clay's backpack and narc'd on him. Clay got suspended for 3 days.
Hannah Baker: That's fucking bullshit.

Hannah Baker: I'll talk to my mom about it. Maybe her lawyer can help.
Jessica Davis: I showed Chlöe the polaroids of what Bryce did to her. She testified as well.
Hannah Baker: And?
Jessica Davis: She told the court about The Clubhouse... but she also said that what Bryce did to her was consensual. She remembered having sex with Bryce and that she wanted it. She lied to the court. So now it's up to Justin.
Hannah Baker: Why would she lie?
Jessica Davis: She has major Stockholm for Bryce. There's something you should know about Justin.
Hannah Baker: What about Justin?
Jessica Davis: 5 Months ago after he told me the truth, I broke up with him. He then ran away. We hadn't seen him for months.
Hannah Baker: But he came back.
Jessica Davis: Actually, Clay & Tony found him and brought him back.

Hannah Baker: He's been staying with Clay?
Jessica Davis: Yeah.
Hannah begins to smile. Then the smile turns to laughter.
Oh, my god. This is too funny.
Jessica Davis: What's so funny?
Hannah Baker: (Giggling) Justin has been staying with Clay, even though Justin once suggested "ending him"?
Jessica now begins giggling.
Jessica Davis: (Giggling) Yeah. They were at each other throats over the tapes and now he's staying with him.
