After hearing his tape, Clay listened to the next one. Reason number 12, Bryce Walker. Clay learned that Jessica wasn't the only victim of Bryce Walker, he did the same with Hannah. Clay wakes up the next morning as he makes his way to the kitchen and serves himself a cup of coffee.

Matt Jensen: You still drinking coffee?

Clay Jensen: You're still drinking coffee.

Matt Jensen: Yes. I guess we just hope for more for our children. We'll probably live longer, if that helps.

Clay Jensen: If your generation doesn't destroy the planet first.

Matt Jensen: It's too late, I'm afraid.

Laine Jensen: Clay, about the Baker trial...

Matt Jensen: Can we just have one morning without discussing that?

Laine Jensen: The subpoenas go out today.

Clay Jensen: Who's getting one besides me?

Laine Jensen: Sorry, Clay, I'm not at liberty to discuss it. The other day, you asked me if a person could be prosecuted if they hurt someone, but the victim couldn't come forward. You said it was hypothetical, but... you were talking about Hannah, weren't you?

Clay Jensen: I wasn't, actually.

Laine Jensen: Because if something happened to her and you were involved in any way...

Clay Jensen: You think I hurt her?

Matt Jensen: Lainie.

Laine Jensen: I don't.

Clay Jensen: If I did hurt her, and I admitted it, I could go to jail.

Laine Jensen: W-Well, this is a civil proceeding, not criminal. But it is sworn testimony.

Clay Jensen: So if I lied, it's perjury.

Laine Jensen: Why would you need to lie?

Clay started to come up with an idea as the door bell rings.

Clay Jensen: If I knocked down a stop sign and a kid got killed, is that manslaughter?

Laine Jensen: Clay, what the hell are we talking about?

Clay Jensen: I'm sorry, Mom. I'm not at liberty to discuss it.

The door bell rings once more.

Clay Jensen: It's... probably for me, don't you think?

Laine goes to answer the door as a police officer delivers her a summons for Clay. The same went for everyone on the tapes. As a police officer is handing over Alex's summons to his father, Justin & Alex overhears them.

Justin Foley: They're still talking. Jesus! Fucking Hannah!

Alex Standall: (Sarcastic) Yeah, fucking Hannah. Fuck her for trying to kill herself.

Justin Foley: Dude, this is all gonna come out now. Aren't you freaked?

Alex Standall: No. I'm glad.

Justin Foley: Seriously? We're all fucked now.

Alex Standall: We were fucked anyway.

At school, Marcus & Courtney are freaking out over the depositions. Tyler asks them about it when Monty appears and pushes Tyler to the floor and laughs. Tyler retaliates by pushing him back but Monty grabs him by his face and pins him on the wall, only for Bryce to break it up. Tyler has had enough. After school, Tyler goes to meet someone to purchase a gun. Jessica opted not to go to school after what transpired last night. Jessica enters her room and is startled by seeing Justin sitting on her bed.

Jessica Davis: Jesus! What the hell, Justin?

Justin Foley: I'm sorry. I needed to see you.

Jessica Davis: I'm gonna scream.

Justin Foley: I texted and I called.

Jessica Davis: I'm gonna call the police.

Justin Foley: Jess, please, I was trying to protect you.

Jessica Davis: Protect me? Seriously?

Justin Foley: I thought if you didn't know, if no one found out...

Jessica Davis: What? I'd be fine? I'd go about my life? You and I would get married and live happily ever after?

Justin Foley: That's what I wanted, was for us to... to be together. Forever.

Jessica Davis: You let him. You let him.

Justin Foley: No, I was drunk.

Jessica Davis: And I was scared.

Justin Foley: So was I. Bryce was at the...

Jessica Davis: Don't say that name!

Justin Foley: I'm sorry, it's just that... Every time I was thrown out, when my mom was fucked up, one of her boyfriends was fucking with me... he was there for me. When I had no money, when I was starving, his folks bought my shit for school. Okay, when my mom was busted for possession, he got his dad to bail her out.

Jessica Davis: They do that shit so they can own you.

Justin Foley: No. Okay? Last year, I couldn't afford new shoes for basketball. I went through 4 pairs that season. When we got to playoffs, they just had, like, holes. Bryce didn't offer to buy me new shoes. He pretended he had an extra pair.

Jessica Davis: Justin. Are you seriously trying to make excuses for what you did?

Justin Foley: No. I just want you to understand...

Jessica Davis: And I want you to understand what it's like to be raped. But I truly hope you never will. Jess.

Jessica Davis: No.

The doorbell rings.

Jessica Davis: I'm gonna go get that, and you're gonna go back out the window.

Jessica goes downstairs to answer the door as Justin goes out through the window. Since Clay is still suspended from school. He decided to go to the hospital to see Hannah. He sits on the chair next to her bed.

Clay Jensen: He's going to pay for what he did to both you & Jessica. Hannah, I swear to you... I'll make sure he pays.

Clay stays for a little while before he leaves the hospital. He stops by the Baker's store as Andy is working behind the pharmacy counter. Clay purchases some candy, blue nail polish, & a cassette tape. After purchasing those items, Clay sneaks into Liberty to meet with Tony inside a empty classroom.

Tony Padilla: I gotta tell you, the perfect disguise for Clay Jensen is not a hoodie.

Clay Jensen: Did you bring it?

Tony opens his backpack and takes out a tape recorder, the same one Hannah used.

Tony Padilla: As requested.

Clay Jensen: I knew you'd have one.

Clay opens up his backpack, takes out the walkman and gives it back to Tony as he takes the tape recorder.

Tony Padilla: Mind telling me why the switch?

Clay Jensen: I'm sorry. I'm not at liberty to discuss it.

Tony Padilla: We had a deal that we would do this together.

Clay Jensen: You said when I got to the end, we'll do what we have to do.

Tony Padilla: Are you at the end?

Clay Jensen: Almost.

Tony Padilla: Are you going to pass them on?

Clay Jensen: You and I both know Hannah wanted them to get to number 13, but if I give them to number 12, that's the end of it. Just give me a day. I have a plan.

After school at Monet's, Marcus, Courtney, Zach, Alex, & Ryan meet up to discuss the depositions.

Marcus Cole: The first thing we need to do is find out what they know.

Alex Standall: Or the first thing we need to do is tell the truth.

Zach Dempsey: I'm with Alex.

Marcus Cole: I don't think it's as easy as you think. What exactly is the truth?

Ryan Shaver: Profound, Marcus, truly profound.

Zach Dempsey: And bullshit.

Tyler enters Monet's and approaches them.

Courtney Crimsen: Oh, my God, how did you find us?

Tyler Down: I deserve to be here.

Courtney Crimsen: No, you don't.

Tyler Down: Because you don't like me? 'Cause I embarrassed you? I'm getting it worse than any of you.

Alex Standell: Let him stay.

Zach Dempsey: How did you get to run this meeting, anyway? It's not the dance committee.

Ryan giggles at that statement

Tyler Down: I sit, or I start taking pictures.

Ryan Shaver: Sit down.

Marcus Cole: And calm down.

Tyler sits next to Ryan.

Ryan Shaver: I think it's clear what they know. Look around. What do we all have in common?

Marcus Cole: We don't know who got the subpoenas. Sheri didn't.

Ryan Shaver: Or she didn't get one yet.

Marcus Cole: I told her to come anyway. Maybe she's hoping she'll avoid the whole thing.

Courtney Crimsen: Your dad must know something from the other deputies.

Alex Standall: My dad's more of a "sweep it under the rug" kind of guy.

Marcus Cole: Works for me.

Alex Standall: I don't think he gives a shit about you.

Sherri arrives but she doesn't to go in. She looks through the window as she decides to do the right thing. She starts walking away as she takes out her phone and dials 911.

911 Operator: 9-1-1. How can I help you?

Sheri Holland: Yes, hi. I would like to report a... Well, I would like to report something I did a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, back inside Monet's...

Courtney Crimsen: If we don't get our stories straight before these depositions, it's bad for all of us.

Alex Standall: But what is the story exactly?

Courtney Crimsen: Hannah was a liar. She was jealous and needy and emotionally unstable. She thought everyone was out to get her.

Tyler Down: Aren't you describing yourself?

Courtney Crimsen: We tried to be her friends. We did. She blamed us when things went wrong. But she was the one with problems.

Zach Dempsey: That's the story?

Courtney Crimsen: Yeah.

Marcus Cole: What would you say it is?

Zach Dempsey: It doesn't matter what I say it is. 'Cause there are 3 people who aren't here who are likely to say whatever they want.

Courtney Crimsen: Where are Jessica and Justin?

Tyler Down: They weren't at school. Either of them.

Zach & Alex give each other a look as the others notice.

Courtney Crimsen: What?

Zach Dempsey: Justin went to Bryce's last night. He freaked because Jess was flirting with Bryce. So he called Bryce a rapist, and told Jessica that everything on the tapes was true.

Marcus Cole: No fucking way.

Zach Dempsey: Monty and Jamie and a few other guys heard everything.

Courtney Crimsen: Wait, wait, wait. They... They heard? They know about the tapes?

Zach Dempsey: Well, Justin didn't go into detail about the tapes, no, but they heard him call Bryce a rapist and that Hannah was telling the truth.

Ryan Shaver: Good for Justin. And Bryce is a rapist.

Courtney Crimsen: If you believe Hannah.

Ryan Shaver: Seriously? You are the only girl here and that is the position you take?

Courtney Crimsen: Hannah lied. We know this.

Ryan Shaver: (Scoffs) I don't know it.

Marcus Cole: We can contain this. We have to control the narrative.

Ryan Shaver: You're deluded. The narrative is, Jess knows Bryce raped her.

Alex Standall: You guys would make shitty chess players. We're 2 moves from being checkmated.

Marcus Cole: Not necessarily. Not if we bring Bryce into it with us.

Ryan Shaver: Bryce. The rapist.

Courtney Crimsen: Alleged rapist.

Ryan Shaver: Fuck off, Courtney.

Tyler Down: Or we turn him in. Bryce is dangerous. I don't get why we're still protecting him.

Ryan Shaver: Thank you.

Marcus Cole: We're not! We're protecting ourselves. I applied early admit to Columbia, Zach's got scholarships. Ryan, I know you've got big plans. Courtney? Alex?

Alex Standall: I've got no plans. I'm good to tell the truth.

Zach Dempsey: Come on, Alex. Just 'cause Hannah fucked up her life doesn't mean she has to fuck up ours.

Tyler Down: Hear me out. If Clay gave the lawyers our names and Justin is running around saying everything on the tapes is true, then it's only a matter of time until we're all screwed. But if we can get ahead of it...

Marcus Cole: What do you mean?

Tyler Down: What if we confirm Hannah's stories about Bryce? What if we give the school their scapegoat? They have someone to blame. The Bakers have someone to charge with a crime. Then whatever we did doesn't matter as much.

Marcus Cole: So you want to sacrifice Bryce to save your own ass?

Tyler Down: Yeah. Of course.

They all stay silent as think about Tyler's proposal.

Ryan Shaver: The Bakers are broke, right, and Bryce's family has the money to make this all go away?

Courtney Crimsen: Nothing we did compares to what he did.

Alex Standall: You're fucking joking, right?

Zach Dempsey: Are you gonna defend Bryce?

Alex Standall: No, but aren't you? You've been doing it for weeks now.

Zach Dempsey: Fuck you. No, I haven't. I just didn't want this to blow up.

Ryan Shaver: Well, boom.

Alex Standall: Justin let Bryce do it, then lied. Justin will go to jail too.

Zach Dempsey: Justin is my best friend. You think he gives a shit about me right now?

Alex Standall: Don't you give a shit about him?

Ryan Shaver: What about Jessica? Doesn't she get a say?

Courtney Crimsen: She should have answered when I called.

Ryan Shaver: My God, Courtney. You should fucking listen to yourself.

Tyler Down: I can't imagine Jess won't want Bryce in jail for life.

Alex Standall: Wanna know what's worse than being a rapist? Hiding behind one. Fucking justifying a fucking rapist, that's worse. You want to get the story straight? We all know the story. Everything Hannah said on the tapes is true. You're gay. So what? Tyler, you're a stalker. Ryan, you're an arrogant asshole. Zach, you're just an entitled idiot who does cruel, stupid things even though you probably have a decent heart. And Sheri's a fucking coward who got a kid killed.

Marcus Cole: Alex, that's enough.

Alex Standall: No, Marcus. You'll do anything to keep up your perfect reputation. And, yeah, I'm a fucking weak, pathetic loser who ruined the one good thing that I ever had because I wanted a rapist to think I was just like him. Hannah was my friend. And we should tell the truth about her. Because I know that if I had still been friends with her... if any one of us had still been friends with her, she'd be here right now instead of trying to kill herself and end up in a coma.

They all take a good minute to think about what Alex just said.

Zach Dempsey: So we tell the truth.

Marcus Cole: Truth doesn't just land on Bryce.

Ryan Shaver: So let the truth land on us. I published a poem. A fucking good and meaningful poem.

Tyler Down: I didn't mean tell the truth about everything.

Zach Dempsey: Why not, Tyler? You got more secrets you're trying to hide?

Courtney Crimsen: You can do whatever you want. No one's going to believe you. People'll just laugh at you, like they always do.

Tyler Down: They won't.

Courtney Crimsen: Hannah's truth is not my truth. No way.

They all made a decision. Some of them will tell the truth while some will lie. At the Baker's store, Tony arrives with his boyfriend Brad as he approaches Olivia who's behind the counter.

Olivia Baker: Tony, um... thanks so much for coming in.

Tony Padilla: Sorry I didn't come before school.

Olivia Baker: It's okay.

Tony Padilla: This is my friend Brad.

Brad: Hi.

Olivia Baker: Hi, how are you?

Brad: Great.

Tony Padilla: Uh, is everything okay?

Olivia Baker: Yeah, everything's fine, I just wanted to talk to you about... something. Wanted to show you... something.

Brad: I'll do some shopping.

Brad goes on to look around the store.

Olivia Baker: Here, uh... I... I found something in Hannah's closet, hidden away.

Tony Padilla: Okay.

Olivia Baker: I thought maybe... you could help me understand what it means.

Olivia shows Tony a piece of paper that contain names circled or crossed out. It was a brainstorm for the tapes.

Tony Padilla: Wow.

Olivia Baker: Um... Do you know or recognize any of these names?

Tony Padilla: I... I think they're kids at the school.

Olivia Baker: Yeah, I mean "Clay" I think is Clay Jensen. And some of these other names I recognize from Hannah's phone and her Facebook page. They're actually going to be subpoenaed for deposition. The lawyer said the papers went out this morning.

Tony Padilla: Yeah, I heard that at school.

Olivia Baker: But why are they all connected, and why is "Bryce" circled so many times? And why... why are you on there?

Tony Padilla: I don't know.

Olivia Baker: Bullshit, Tony. Look, you've been very, very kind to us... but I don't think you're telling us the whole truth, and you need to. Now.

Tony Padilla: Hannah had secrets, Mrs. Baker.

Olivia Baker: Hannah's secrets are what almost killed her, and they do not get to stay that way. Do you understand? I mean, clearly she was trying to work something out here. Kat, Mrs. Bradley, Mrs. Antilly. And you're on here. Why do you think?

Tony Padilla: I don't know.

Olivia Baker: Yours is the only name with a question mark. Why?

Tony Padilla: I don't know why my name is on that sheet.

Olivia Baker: I think you do. Well... if you won't tell me, maybe you'll tell the lawyers.

Tony leaves the store with his boyfriend, Brad. Tony tells Brad about Hannah but not everything. Later that night, Clay decided to pay Bryce Walker a visit. Clay knocks on the door as Bryce answers the door.

Bryce Walker: Jensen. The fuck do you want?

Clay Jensen: Hey, Bryce, um... Listen, I was wondering... if... I mean, I was hoping you wouldn't mind... Look, I know it's weird, but I was hoping to buy some weed. It's kind of an emergency.

Bryce looks around outside looking if someone put him up tp this.

Bryce Walker: You want to buy some weed. From me.

Clay Jensen: Yes, I do. If you wouldn't mind.

Bryce Walker: Why would I mind? Come on in.

Clay enters the Walker house.

Bryce Walker: So you need some weed, huh?

Clay Jensen: Yeah, um, I do.

Bryce Walker: 'Cause you got yours confiscated the other day.

Clay Jensen: You heard about that?

Bryce Walker: Yeah, everybody did. Any time one of the squeaky clean kids gets dirty, it's pretty big news.

Clay Jensen: That's... interesting.

Bryce Walker: I'm gonna hook you up this time 'cause you seem desperate, and I happen to have shit on hand. And, you know, 420 brotherhood. But I'm not a dealer, okay? If you need a regular thing, I can hook you up with my guy.

Bryce goes to open a box that's on top of a table and takes out bags of weed.

Clay Jensen: You keep it on the coffee table?

Bryce Walker: My parents are in Ibiza. They won't be back for a week. So, what do you want? Like, an eighth?

Clay Jensen: Yeah?

Bryce Walker: Indica or sativa?

Clay Jensen: Um, hybrid.

Bryce Walker: Hybrid. I concur. Gotta say, man, I did not take you for a stoner.

Clay Jensen: Yeah, well... I guess you never know what's going on in someone else's life, right?

As Bryce preps the drugs, Clay begins approach the window that shows the pool & hot tub in the backyard.

Clay Jensen: I bet you have some great parties out here, huh?

Bryce Walker: Fuckin' legendary.

Clay Jensen: Oh, let me get my cash. How much is it?

Bryce Walker: Most people pay 60 bucks for an eighth. I pay 40.

Clay opens up his backpack as he sets up the tape player to record. The tape player begins recording as Bryce looks at Clay thinking that he's looking for money.

Bryce Walker: You know what, buddy, fuck it. Just bring some to my next party. We'll call it even.

Clay Jensen: Yeah. Sure. Hannah Baker told me about one of your parties.

Bryce Walker: Hannah Baker. Sucks what happened to her.

Clay Jensen: Yeah.

Bryce Walker: She's such a beautiful girl.

Clay Jensen: You and Hannah... you had sex with her that night.

Bryce Walker: Did I? Yeah, I might have.

Clay Jensen: Did she want you to?

Bryce Walker: I assume so. Hannah and I... Well, she's a very special girl. We had a thing, off and on.

That statement made Clay angry as he's now ready to confront him.

Clay Jensen: You raped her.

Bryce Walker: What?

Clay Jensen: You fucking raped her.

Bryce Walker: Dude. Don't talk about what you don't know about.

Clay Jensen: Why did you do it?

Bryce Walker: Thank you for coming. Get out of my house.

Clay Jensen: Not until you admit it.

Bryce Walker: Seriously, Jensen.

Clay Jensen: Say what you did. Say it.

Bryce Walker: What business is it of yours?

Clay Jensen: She's my friend.

Bryce Walker: Who tried to kill herself.

Clay Jensen: What does it matter? Say it.

Bryce Walker: Calm the fuck down.

Clay Jensen: I need what I need, for you to admit what you did. Here. Right out there. A week before she slit her wrists and almost died at home, you raped her.

Bryce Walker: She came to my party. Mine. She got in the hot tub with me, without a suit on. Right? And she made eyes. I know that's hard for you to hear, that your crush wasn't pure and clean. But she fucking wanted it.

With all his anger and all his might, Clay punches Bryce. But not hard enough.

Bryce Walker: Now, why'd you have to do that?

Bryce begins to beat up Clay. He beats him to a bloody pulp as Clay falls to the ground.

Bryce Walker: All right, come on. You're okay, you're okay.

Bryce helps Clay up, only to beat him up even more. At the hospital, the machines that are hooked up to Hannah begin to sound off as the nurses and doctor attend to her.

Bryce Walker: She wanted me. Me. She was practically begging me to fuck her. If that's rape, then every girl at this school wants to be raped.

Bryce goes to pore himself a drink as Clay slowly begins to crawl to a chair. He lifts himself up and sits on it as it cracks Bryce up.

Bryce Walker: (Laughing) Respect. Jesus, Jensen. Respect.

Bryce gets some ice for Clay and pores him a drink as well. Clay accepts the ice & drink.

Clay Jensen: So she wanted it. She got in the hot tub with you. And that means she wanted it.

Bryce Walker: Yeah. She did.

Clay Jensen: But she didn't tell you so.

Bryce Walker: She didn't have to. Girls play games.

Clay Jensen: She didn't say she wanted you to fuck her.

Bryce Walker: She never said no.

Clay Jensen: And that's not rape?

Bryce Walker: Why do you care so much?

Clay Jensen: I just need to hear you say it.

Bryce Walker: Jesus, Clay. I mean... are you a virgin?

Clay Jensen: What does that matter?

Bryce Walker: I'll take that as my answer. Go get yourself laid a few times, or try. And then come back to me, we'll talk like grownups.

Clay Jensen: Did you rape Hannah Baker?

Bryce Walker: You wanna call it rape, call it rape. Same difference.

Clay got what he wanted. He got Bryce's confession. Clay leaves Bryce's house, gets on bike and rides off as he yells out...

Clay Jensen: Fuck! Fuck!!!!!!!!!!

Clay was glad that he got his confession. Meanwhile back at the hospital. The doctor & nurse remove the breathing tube from Hannah.

Nurse: Doctor, she's breathing on her own.

Doctor: Hannah, can you hear me? Hannah?

There was no answer.

Doctor: She's still comatose. I'll inform her parents that she can breath on her own now. This is good news.

Justin Foley arrives to his apartment and gets into a scuffle with Seth Massey, his mother's drug dealing boyfriend. Seth is angry because the police showed up to deliver Justin's subpoena. His mother did nothing but just watch. Justin has had enough, he grabs his bag and packs up, take some of Seth's money, & takes a gun and run away. That night, Alex Standall grabs one of his father's gun and shoots himself in the head. His parents immediately called 911 as they showed up on time and rushed him to the hospital. As Hannah is all alone in her hospital room, still in a coma, something happens. Her finger slowly moves.
