Saturday

The students of Blackwell Academy were very keen to have two days off school. It was early the next morning when Kate got up early once again to brush her teeth. She looked up in the mirror and saw how miserable she looked, then realised how horrible she thought she looked yesterday for not doing anything to improve her appearance for her date yesterday.

She drew toothpaste on her favourite toothbrush and began to scrub her teeth when she heard the door to the girls bathroom open. Her hand subconsciously brushed her teeth for a solid minute and a half when she realised she was no longer alone. Kate's heart dropped in her chest as soon as she heard the door open but when she turned her head to look at who join her, she felt at ease upon realising it was Max in her company.

"Hey Kate, how are you doing?" Max greeted the dirty-haired blonde with a sweet and gentle tone as if she were afraid of using a firmer one to scare her.

"I'm here. Thanks again for standing up for me yesterday. I needed that." Kate replied gratefully.

"Anytime. That guy has issues."

"Doesn't everybody here? Well, I don't suppose 'everybody'- everybody. The only people here who are really sweet to me are you, Warren, Alyssa, Stella and (Y/n)."

Max grinned upon hearing her mention the new boy in their photography class. Kate didn't directly notice it but when her hazel eyes caught onto Max's blue eyes, she blushed madly.

"I heard from a little bird that you and (Y/n) went out last night. So... how was your date?" Max teased as a huge grin spread across her face.

Coyly, Kate stuttered, incapable of getting clear words out until Max reassured her that she wasn't going to do anything harmful to her, but rather was curious and supportive of her decision to go on a date with (Y/n).

"He was really sweet. Such a gentleman. We talked about stuff, got to know each other better. About as you'd expect going on a date." Kate responded bashfully.

"I'm happy for you. Truly."

"Thanks Max. By the way, do you still have my copy of The October Country?"

"Oh yes, of course. It's great so far. I didn't realise Bradbury was such a poet. Why, did you want it back?"

"Yes please. I just need it to take some notes for class."

"Absolutely. I'll bring it by later. Oh, and Kate? You look beautiful. I'm glad to see (Y/n) makes you happy. He could be the one, you know."

"Oh, stop it Max. I'll talk to you later."

Ducking into a shower stall, Max pulled on the curtain and bathed herself while Kate concluded her business brushing her teeth. It was at that moment when Victoria and her friend, Taylor, entered the bathroom and mocked Kate further. As a result, Kate stormed out of the bathroom with tears threatening to run down her cheeks. Kate didn't pay attention to where she was walking when she left her room, which resulted in her bumping into (Y/n) on her way back.

"Ow," they both yelped.

"Oh my God. Kate! Are you alright?" (Y/n) asked concerningly as he touched her arms.

The dirty-haired blonde winced but shook off the pain as she and (Y/n) made eye contact. "I-I'm okay, (Y/n). Are you okay? Oh dear. You got a bump on your forehead. Poor thing. I'm so sorry. I should've been paying attention to where I was going."

"No, Kate. Don't blame yourself. It was totally my fault."

"Are you sure? Because I--"

(Y/n) was unable to contain the joy he felt spring within him as Kate rambled about how it was her fault he got hurt, but by the time she realised he wasn't saying anything and just staring at her, her face flushed red once more.

"W-Why are you staring at me like that?" Kate stammered.

(Y/n) said nothing but moved some hair obstructing his view of her face, which made her blush even harder. No other thought popped in his mind except what he wanted to do to Kate right then and there. But in contradiction to his intention, he knew it would seem well out of character as well as being too far fetched for him to kiss her outright without her consent. Dismissing the thought, (Y/n) shook his head and apologised.

"So what are you doing today, Kate? Seeing as how we get the weekend off, surely you got something planned besides being cooped up in her room all day." (Y/n) asked curiously.

Behind Kate, two girls walked out of the bathroom and sent snide glares their way. In particular, Victoria stared roughly at (Y/n) which confused him. When Kate noticed that he was no longer giving her his attention, she craned her head around and spotted Victoria staring at him with a devilish smile plastered on her face.

"I got a bad feeling about her." (Y/n) grumbled as he watched the short-haired woman disappear into her room when her minion got the door slammed in her face.

"Just ignore her, (Y/n). You... wanna come hang out in my room?" Kate asked timidly.

"Y-Yeah, sure! Lemme give you a few minutes for you to make yourself decent, seeing as how you're in your pyjamas. Cute t-shirt by the way."

Kate blushed and sent him a kind smile his way before she made her way into her room. As soon as Kate disappeared into her room, (Y/n) wandered up and down the hall outside her room. When he was sure two minutes had been long enough, (Y/n) approached her door and knocked three times and waited patiently for a response.

"Come in, (Y/n)." Kate sang, her voice muffled from inside the room.

(Y/n) opened the door and entered where he saw Kate seated at her desk, half-facing him but with a full smile as she wore her usual clothing. As he closed the door behind him, his eyes scanned the layout of the entire room before he took up a spot on her bed, causing it to dip from where he sat.

"Sick room, Kate. I dig it."

"Thanks."

"You play the violin?"

"I used to."

"Why'd you quit? I would have loved to hear you pl--"

"The video."

"Oh."

Awkward silence fell upon them, to which (Y/n) coyly rubbed the back of his neck whilst they thought of something else to say to keep the conversation going.

"(Y/n), can I ask you something?" Kate spoke with a weary tone.

He looked up at her with raised eyebrows and nodded his head.

"Have you watched the video? About me at the Vortex Club party?"

(Y/n) sighed guiltily. "Yes. B-But I didn't really care about the video, just you - even before I got to properly introduce myself to you, I knew you weren't that kind of person like everyone else, and probably Max too. But seeing you now, after going on an incredible date with you, this only concretes my suspicion that you, Kate Marsh, are not responsible for what happened."

Her eyes softened as she came to realise he was telling the truth. She could just tell. Kate moved herself over to where he sat and stared deeply into his eyes as he did the same.

"Be honest with me. Do you care about me more than a friend?" Kate whispered delicately.

(Y/n) realised that it was now or never - to finally have the balls to confess how he truly felt about her or die trying.

"Y-Y-Yes. I really, truly have a crush on you, Kate Marsh." (Y/n) blurted, causing her to flinch back when he raised his voice to proclaim his feelings for her.

Startled by his outburst, Kate's mind slowly registered his profession of his feelings for her. More tense awkward silence troubled (Y/n), as by not receiving a verbal response from Kate, he felt dread coil inside him. When (Y/n) got up off her bed and went to leave her room, Kate pursued him with every fibre in her being and caught up right outside her room, in full view of the few female students that lingered in the hall.

"I do too, (Y/n)." Kate whispered.

Her hands cupped his cheeks as they stood inches apart. Those who were witnessing them in such close proximity with each other produced their phones and recorded what they were seeing while (Y/n) and Kate confessed their feelings for one another. Closing the distance between their faces, he and Kate pressed their lips together and kissed like they had never kissed before.

When their lips touched... euphoria.

The kiss was soft and gentle - more so on (Y/n)'s part as he worried he would be too rough - but unbeknownst to him, the way he was kissing her was exactly how Kate wanted to be kissed. Kate and (Y/n) became so focused on the kiss that they forgot to pull away for breath. So when they did, a string of saliva was left behind. The audience who witnessed their falling in love cheered (Y/n) and Kate on; mostly Kate, who finally felt recognition and belonging.

Out of all of those who were given the privilege of watching Kate and (Y/n) fall in love, Victoria Chase was not one of them. In fact, she loathed them more than ever. When the excitement died out, (Y/n) took Kate's hand and encouraged her to follow him. Hand in hand, he and Kate walked out of the dormitory into the school halls for all to see. At first, Kate was doubtful of his idea but when she realised people looked at her appreciatively, she'd changed.

When they wandered out into the front steps of the school, snow began to fall. They looked up to the sky and found happiness as the two then began to dance and mess around under the falling snow. It had been a long time since Kate had felt such joy. Being able to spend it with (Y/n) never made her more happy. While others weren't able to share the same excitement as they, the two ignored all eyes staring at them and enjoyed themselves until they ran out of energy.

Still once more, (Y/n) cupped Kate's cheeks and moved his face towards hers so their noses touched. Being in such close proximity caused Kate's heart to race. His lips brushed against hers teasingly, earning a moan of impatience from the religious girl until he pleased her by capturing her lips with his. Kate submitted to the kiss and went limp in his arms. Her arms hung by her side as they kissed tenderly to their heart's content.

It was still early in the morning, so there was still most of the day to waste. The sun beat against their skin, leaving a warm tingling sensation against their skin. When (Y/n) pulled away, Kate whimpered and pouted her bottom lip. He knew she wanted more, but he preferred to spend their day together quite differently rather than just making out whilst outdoors under snowfall.

"I want to treat you specially today," requested (Y/n).

"What did you have in mind?" Kate purred.

She stared longingly into his eyes as if looking away would be the end of everything.

"Just us being together."

Kate giggled and took his hand when they ran back inside to head to her dorm with the intent to spend quality time together for the remainder of the day.

"Don't come near me! (Y/n), seriously, don't come near me. I will jump!"

"Will you just listen to me?!"

"NO! I saw everything, (Y/n). I should've known you'd turn on me - just like everyone else has."

"You don't even know the whole story! Just step away from the ledge so I can explain everything. Please, Kate. Don't do this..."

"I'm living a nightmare and I can't wake up. I think it's better if I put myself to sleep for good."

"AND WHAT ABOUT ME?! I LOVE YOU KATE! I ALWAYS HAVE! JUST DON'T JUST GODDAMMIT! I need you..."

"You should have thought about that when you betrayed me, (Y/n)."

"KATE, STOP!! WAAIIITT!!"

Then, she jumped.
