Never Normal [Chapter 12] Flying Bison:
As Shell got closer and closer to the ground, she smirked slightly, knowing she could beat Kai. She saw the ground a few hundred feet below her, and opened her wings, slowing her descent until she was flying in place. She scanned the field, her eyes trained to find the biggest of the bunch. Finding it, a large male bison, she flew over to it quickly, it being a couple hundred yards from her.
'I got this,' she thought, for how could any normal dragon get that far, sneak up on the beast, take it down, and return it before her on their feet? Preposterous!
Well, Kai was no normal dragon. Trained in the art of stealth and precision, and his endless nights watching National Geographic with Lloyd further informed him on how to take down a beast of that size. Surely someone with that skill could outdo a dragon, right?
Nope.
His knowledge was now limited to what he is; a four-legged, ten ton beast that had a twenty foot wingspan. This obviously would slow him down.
A lot.
His senses were still on point though, if not better.
His eyesight was the biggest difference he noticed, because from a hundred yards away, he could see a bison perfectly. Granted it was bigger than a double decker bus but still. It was an improvement.
'Bigger than a double decker bus?' Kai thought, now curious.
He pushed that though aside and instead thought, 'I'll definitely beat Shell with that. I just need to see how I cou-'
Kai's plans were stopped short, for right above him, he saw Shell flying towards the bison at top speed.
'Oh shit!'
Kai kicked it into 'high gear' and started chasing after Shell, but he veered to the right slightly and went into the woods. He kept his eyes on Shell and the bison, careful not to loose pursuit.
He dodged trees and branches, almost tripped a few times and surely scared a few birds away with all his ruckus.
'Wait.'
He finally got an idea.
'I either win or lose, and I'm putting my trust in birds. What has my life come to..'
His brilliant idea gave him the adrenaline rush he needed, and he quickly ran and got ahead of Shell. Running into a tree, on purpose, he easily scared off just about every bird on the entire Dark Island.
They flew up towards the sky and into Shell momentarily blocking her from continuing her hunt.
'Perfect.'
Kai sprinted towards the bison; it was getting closer, but still so far away.
His ears turned backwards to the sound of a roar.
Shell was free and back in the race, metaphorically speaking. Kai saw her high-tailing it to the bison and she flew up a little higher, and dove down towards the beast. She opened her claws and narrowed her eyes.
She was getting closer.
And closer.
And closer.
Until-
WHAM!
The bison flew to her left by such a strong impact, when it hit the ground, it was immediately killed. Shell stopped suddenly and turned towards the bison, and there was Kai, mouth clamped on the bison's neck, blood staining his snout.
"I'd like to see the Nat Geo cheetahs do that!"
"The what?"
"Nevermind."
Shell chuckled and said, "Come on Penguin. Let's eat."
"Hey!"
The two carried the bison back to the nests, unbeknownst that two red eyes were watching them from the trees.
