Reinhard noticed the royal insignia glow in Ram's hand. He immediately stood up from his seat. Emilia and Ram turned their heads when they heard the chair move forward, and saw Reinhard staring at the royal insignia in Ram's palm. Confused Ram looked down at her palm and saw the insignia glowing
Subaru heard Emilia fall in the dining room, and walked out to check what was happening. He noticed Reinhard stare at Rams palm. He looked over at her palm and noticed she was holding Emilia's royal insignia
He looked in astonishment as the insignia glowed in her hand. Subaru quickly remembered hearing that the royal candidates were chosen through the insignia
"R-Ram... The insignia... It's..." Subaru couldn't believe the insignia choose Ram to be a royal candidate
"Ram you are going to be coming with me back to the capital" Reinhard said as he walked up to Ram with a serious expression on his face. Ram looked at Reinhard a little intimidated by his tall posture as he walked up to her. He grabbed onto Ram's arm tightly
"Wait, hold on for a minute!" Ram yelled out. She was knocked unconscious by Reinhard draining her mana. Her body suddenly became limp, she was still held up by Reinhard. Reinhard grabbed the royal insignia in Rams hand before it fell to the floor
"I believe this belongs to you" Reinhard held out the insignia to Emilia. Emilia got up and took the insignia from his hand
"Thank you..." Emilia said awkwardly. She slowly placed it back in her pocket
"Anyway, thank you very much for the dinner Subaru. I had an excellent time. I will be on my way now, I hope to meet again" Reinhard said as he picked up Ram bridal style
"Wait, what about Ram?" Subaru asked
"Ram will be needing to come with me back to the capital. It is of utmost priority that I bring her to the council at once " Reinhard said as he made his way out of the dining room
Subaru didn't know if he should try and stop him. He knew Reinhard will bring Ram to the capital no matter what, so fighting him won't do much good. It wasn't like Subaru could win. Emilia and Subaru stood in silence not knowing what to say
Rem eventually came out of the kitchen looking for Subaru. She noticed the Reinhard and Ram were missing from the dining room
"Subaru where's Nee-Sama and her date?" Rem asked. Subaru and Emilia both turned to look at her
"Rem I don't know how to put this, but Reinhard took her to the capital" Subaru said. Rems mouth opened
"Why!?" Rem asked
"Reinhard noticed Emilia's royal insignia glow in her hand, and if I remember correctly that means your sister will be entered into the royal election as the fifth candidate" Subaru said. Rems facial expression did not change
"Wait, Nee-Sama is going into the royal election!?"
"That's what it seems like Rem" Subaru said
"Why Nee-Sama!?" Rem asked
"I don't know Rem. I honestly have no idea why she was chosen" Subaru said. Rem could not believe her own sister was going into the royal election. She didn't know what to think. On one side she was happy she was chosen. On the other she was concerned what will happen to her
"What's going to happen now? When can I see her?" Rem asked. She wanted to see her sister get further insight on what's happening to her
"Well since they found a replacement royal candidate, I am pretty sure they're going to call an election meeting. We could all go together and meet her there" Emilia said
Rem nodded her head in agreement. She didn't know if she could wait that long, she could not believe that this was happening
"I am just going to... Head to bed" Emilia said as she walked out of the dining room
"Yeah it's getting pretty late. I am going to head off to my room" Subaru said as he began to walk to his room. Rem grabbed his arm, Subaru turned to look at her, he noticed a look of disapproval across her face.
"Subaru, you are not going anywhere. You are coming to Rem's room" Rem said as she started to pull Subaru down the halls to her room. She swung open the door, pulled Subaru in with her. She closed the door and locked it
Emilia was in her room trying to gather her thoughts. She was still in disbelief someone like Ram would be nominated into the royal election
Emilia originally went to the dining room intending to follow through on Pucks advice, and make her move on Subaru. But she ended up accidentally walking in on Rams date, and witnessed Rams nomination into the selection. This was all so shocking to her she forgot the reason she came there in the first place.
The second she entered her room, she remembered her original plan. She debated in her room whether to go to Subaru's room and still follow through on her plan. She was still embarrassed for walking in on Ram's date, but she had to tell Subaru how she felt. Emilia needed to get it off her chest. Emilia turned and looked into the mirror. She looked at her reflection determined to succeed her mission.
Puck came out, and knew by Emilia's facial expression that she was preparing to make her grand move on Subaru. Puck smiled, he was so proud that Emilia was ready to take such a courageous step in her life.
"You got this Lia, don't be afraid. Just tell him how you feel" Puck said in an encouraging voice
Emilia nodded her head, not speaking a word. Emilia was determined to secure Subaru from Rem's grasp. Rem was actually a big reason Emilia decided to make this courageous move. She wanted to secure Subaru first, before Rem got the opportunity.
"I am ready," Emilia said in a determined voice. Pucks smile grew larger.
"Good luck Lia" Puck said as he returned to the crystal. Emilia exited her room and walked onto the hallway. Her stomach was tied in several knots, she was so nervous she could barely stand up.
Emilia was shaking as she walked slowly down the corridors. She was scared and nervous. Having never confessed to anybody before, she had no prior training and was going in blind
Emilia eventually reached the corridor Subarus' room was in. She walked slowly trying to buy as much time as possible. She eventually reached Subarus' door. Emilia wanted to run off, and confess to him another day. But Emilia knew her opportunity was now. It took everything in her to finally knock on the door
"Subaru..." Emilia called out. Emilia didn't hear a response. She knocked again more louder this time
"Subaru, are you there?.. I have something I need to talk to you about" Emilia said. Still not getting a response, Emilia sighed. She was debating letting herself in. She couldn't help herself; she needed to get it all off her chest. She opened the door slowly. Her eyes saw nothing but an empty room
Emilia opened the door fully and didn't see anyone in the room."Where is he?" Emilia thought to herself. She was wondering where she could find Subaru, when she suddenly heard a muffled sound from down the hallway. Near Rems room
"What's that sound?" Emilia thought. She didn't understand what she was hearing. Emilia slowly walked over to Rem's room. The muffled noise got increasingly louder. Emilia was starting to think Rem was in some sort of trouble, but that assumption went out the window when she started to hear Rem more clearly
"Does Subaru wanna play with Rems horn!" Rem cried out from her room
Emilia froze dead in her tracks that second she figured out the noise she was hearing was actually Rems moans. Rem's screams of pleasure pierced through Emilia's ears as she stood there in utter shock. Emilia couldn't believe Rem and Subaru would do something like that. Anger and sadness built up in Emilia. It grew worse the longer she stood there listening
"Be gentle, Subaru it's sensitive!" Rem cried out
Emilia couldn't believe she let Rem get one step ahead of her. She regretted taking off to her room, and left Subaru and Rem alone. Emilia stormed off back to her room. Promising to have a nice little chat with Rem the second she saw her tomorrow morning. She was not going to let Rem take Subaru away from her
Emilia made it back to her room and slammed her door. She thought about how she was going to kill Rem for what she did. Small streams of tears trickled down Emilia's face
Later in the night Subaru and Rem finally finished their "exercise" . Rem was exhausted; it took everything in her not to fall asleep. A certain thought came to Rem's mind. She looked over at Subaru knowing she had to talk to Subaru about this eventually
"Subaru," Rem said quietly. Subaru turned to look at Rem. She had the covers covering half her face as she looked at Subaru
"Yes Rem?" Subaru asked
Rem covered herself with the blanket fully She really didn't want to talk about it, but she knew she had to at some point
"Subaru... I think...Nevermind" Rem said under the covers deciding to avoid the topic she thought of
"What are you thinking Rem? You can tell me" Subaru said. Trying to pull the blanket away from Rem, eventually with a little struggle he succeeded in getting the blanket off of her face. Rem covered her face with both of her hands as her face grew red
"It's too embarrassing Subaru" Rem squealed out
"Rem, it's fine. I promise it won't change my opinion on you," Subaru said. He was genuinely curious to what Rem had to tell him
Rem took a deep breath "Alright I will tell you... Subaru, are you aware at this rate I am going to get pregnant.." Rem said her hands still covered her face. It muffled her words a bit, but Subaru understood what she said
"I know Rem," Subaru said. Rems eyes opened she expecting Subaru to give her a negative response
"You do?" Rem whispered
"Yes Rem, and do you want to know something"
"What?' Rem asked genuinely curious to what Subaru had to say
"If you get pregnant it will be the happiest day in my life," Subaru said. Rem removed her hands from her face and looked at Subaru in the eyes.
"Really?" Rem asked astonished
Subaru nodded his head "Yes Rem" Subaru said. A gigantic smile came to Rem's face. Rem was so happy Subaru wanted to have kids with her
Rem looked down to her stomach "Any time now" Rem said
The next morning Ram awoke in an unfamiliar environment. She was in some fancy bed. Ram didn't remember how she got here. "Where am I? How did I get here?" Ram asked herself as she checked her surroundings. The room she was in looked really fancy, though she didn't recognize it. Her vision soon caught sight of Reinhard sleeping in a chair across from her. She could hear his light snoring as he slouched on the chair
"Sir Reinhard?" Ram called out. Reinhard's immediately opened
"Oh hello Miss Ram" Reinhard greeted as he rubbed his eyes. He looked over, examined Ram and smiled
"How was your rest, I could see that you slept well" Reinhard said as stood up and stretched
"Sir Reinhard, where are we?" Ram asked. Reinhard looked at Ram still keeping the smile on his face
"We are currently in my domain, at the capital. I am going to go inform the council to hold an electoral meeting as soon as possible. Since you Ram have been chosen by the royal ensignia to be the fifth candidate in the royal election" Reinhard said
Ram's eyes widened as she remembered the moments leading up to Reinhard knocking her unconscious. She remembered how the ensignia glowed in her hand. Ram couldn't believe that she had been chosen to partake in the royal election
"Me?" Ram said still in disbelief that she was the chosen candidate
"Yes Ram you, now if you would please hold tight just for just a minute I need to go to the council. Please don't go anywhere while I am gone" Reinhard said as he made his way to the door
"I am so confused. Why was I chosen?" Ram asked
"The ensignia simply chose you, It clearly saw you as a suitable candidate. Obviously you will have me as your knight backing your claim to the throne" Reinhard said while standing by the doorframe not looking back at Ram
"Wait, you are going to be my knight?" Ram asked
"Why of course. Do you request to have someone different as your knight?" Reinhard asked looking at Ram finally
Ram shook her head "No no... I am just surprised. I never thought of myself to be a royal candidate" Ram said
"Well the ensignia choose you, so there was clearly a reason" Reinhard siad
"But wasnt there a good reason with the other 5th candidate?"
"Yes... But she wished to withdraw, she would have been executed for treason if she didn't have my backing. She was lucky they let her go so easily. But who would have known what would've happened if Felt had stayed in the election she could have got elected. Her anti establishment, and anti nobility message would have probably reached a lot of people who lived in the slums or working minimum wage jobs. Ultimately making her a preferred candidate to those of the working class. Giving her a sizable portion of the population" Reinhard said
"I see" Ram responded still not understanding
"If you think about it Ram you are sort of like Felt. You are a maid which puts you lower on the societal pyramid. Ultimately giving you a better appeal to the working class. So maybe this fifth candidacy is only meant for the lower end of society" Reinhard theorized
"I kind of understand, but I am still uncertain if I could live up to being considered royalty. Like you said, I am just a simple maid," Ram said. Reinhards expression turned blank
"Are you thinking about withdrawing?" Reinhard asked. Ram was thinking of an answer, while thinking Reinhard walked next to her bed and got on one knee, like he was about to propose to her. He looked at Ram dead in the eyes still holding his serious expression
"Miss Ram... Please I have to ask that you see this election through. If I bring another candidate to the council and have them withdraw again... Who knows what will happen. I am already to blame for Felts withdrawal. So please, I beg of you to consider your options" Reinhard said
Ram felt bad for Rinehard. Ram loved the type of character he was, she loved that she could relate to him surrounding their pasts. She knew how much it would hurt Reinhard if she withdrew, she knew Reinhard would be blamed. Ram on the other hand knew she swore loyalty to Rosswal. Ram even had some feelings for Rosswal, she was uncertain if she could just leave him to be a royal candidate. She knew Rosswal wished for Emilia to ascend to the throne, so being in the election could be a direct violation of his wishes. She would also be away from Rem, her own sister for who knows how long. Ram was debating with herself internally. She either had to choose Rosswals wishes, or Rinehards
She knew it wouldn't be right to withdraw, and prolong the election process even further. She didn't want Rinehard to be blamed for prolonging the election process any longer. So Ram reluctantly made the decision to see it to the end, and see what happened. Hoping Rosswal won't be too upset about her decision
"Sir Reinhard... I-I am not going to withdraw... Even though I am going to miss my sister, and Master Rosswal. If the ensignia chooses me... Then I guess I will do it, for the sake of finishing the election process" Ram said. Reinhard's smile came back to his face
"Thank you Miss Ram, really" Reinhard said as stood back up. Ram smiled back, she knew she had a wild journey ahead of her. A journey only a few people get to go on. Ram knew deep down she needed a break from being a maid
"By the way it's only Reinhard from now on, I am your knight so no need to make it formal Miss Ram" Reinhard said chuckling slightly
"Miss Ram?" Ram thought it was funny that someone would address her as miss. She never heard her name be used in such a formal matter
"You heard me, Miss Ram. Anyway let me go to the council to call this meeting I will be back shortly" Reinhard said as he exited Rams room
Emilia woke up early the next morning. Memories of the previous night swept over her. She was so angry with Rem's words cannot even describe it. Emilia made it a priority to catch Rem alone to have there little "talk" she didn't want any interference
She angrily prepared herself for the day. Emilia made her way out onto the hallways. "Subaru chose me, he said he loved me" Emilia thought in her head. Emilia was justifying her anger in her head
Emilia approached Rem's door and knocked it aggressively. She didn't hear an answer so she just swung open the door. Not giving any regard for Rems privacy
She saw Subaru laying down in Rem's bed asleep, but Rem was nowhere to be found. Emilia didn't care about Subaru, she wanted to find Rem. Knowing Rem was alone somewhere in the mansion made Emilia run down the hallways to look for her, completely ignoring Subaru. It was best that he stay out of it
She ran near the kitchen and smelled breakfast being made. Emilia knew Rem was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Emilia kicked open the kitchen door, and saw Rem stirring a pot with a gigantic smile on her face
Rem turned her head when she heard the door kick open, her smile faded when she saw an enraged Emilia standing by the door. Her eyes had flames, and her facial expression was all scrunched up
"Hello Miss Emilia" Rem greeted bowing. Emilia stormed up to Rem and slapped her across the face. Rem dropped the spoon in her hand, as she covered her cheek
"How dare you take advantage of Subaru!" Emilia yelled at Rem. Looking directly into her eyes
"Miss Emilia, I have no clue what you are talking about. I don't remember ever taking advantage of Subaru" Rem said. This enraged Emilia even more. She hated when people played dumb with her
"You know what I mean! What you did with Subaru last night! I hear you!" Emilia shouted, getting closer to Rem. They were in a forehead to forehead standoff
"I never took advantage of him!" Rem shouted back. Emilia slammed her fist onto the table
"What do you mean! I heard what you were saying. You were saying stuff like "Does Subaru wanna play with Rems horn" and I heard you moaning in the room! So dont play dumb with me!" Emilia shouted
Rem picked up the spoon and threw it back into the pot. Soup splattering a little over the stove. "I never took advantage of Subaru! I love him to much, I could never bring myself to do something like that!" Rem said as she looked into Emilia's eyes
"What are you talking about! Subaru chose me, not you. So that means you go away!" Emilia grabbed the spoon from the pot and threw it at Rem. It hit Rem directly in the face covering soup in her face
"No! Subaru chose me!" Rem shouted back at Emilia. Rem picked the spoon back up and chucked it at Emilia. Emilia dodged and the spoon hit the wall
"No he didn't!" Emilia shouted as she shoved Rem to the floor
"Yes he did! He told Rem so when we were in Japan! Subaru didn't want to hurt your feelings so he kept it a secret!" Rem shouted back as she got off the floor. Not taking her eyes off Emilia
"Subaru said he loved me!" Emilia shouted back
"Subaru loves Rem!" Rem said. Emilia grabbed Rem by shirt and threw her to the table. Rem caught onto the table before she hit the floor. Emilia tackled Rem to the floor, and continued to look her dead in the eyes
"Rem was chosen! not you!" Rem shouted at Emilia as they rolled around on the floor
Emilia starts to think about where Subaru and Rems journey to Japan, and how long they were together alone. Emilia was slowly realizing that everything Rem was saying might have been true. Emilia looked dead into Rem's eyes. She wanted make sure Rem listened good to what she had to say next
"He would choose me over you anyday. I guarantee it Isn't it obvious!"
Subaru awoke, he saw the door wide open. He looked over next to him and noticed Rem seemed to be missing. Subaru got up and got dressed, and made his way down the halls to look for Rem. When he walked by the kitchen he heard Emilia shout
"Subaru doesn't like you. You are just a pathetic maid to Rosswal!" Emilia shouted. Subaru could hear Rem and Emilia struggle with each other on the kitchen floor. Subaru immediately knew what was happening and rushed into the kitchen, and saw Emilia and Rem rolling on the floor
"Stop it you two!" Subaru said as he eyed Emilia and Rem. Both of them stopped and turned to look at Subaru
"Rem, please get off of her," Subaru said. Rem stood up and stepped away from Emilia
"I should have told you this earlier, Emilia, but... The truth is I did choose Rem" Subaru said. Those words pierced through Emilia's ears. Emilia just got the one thing she never wanted to hear, and that was proof
Tears started to stream down her face as she looked at Subaru. "Emilia I am so sorry, I should have... I should've told you" Subaru said in a sad and remorseful tone
"So you never loved me!" Emilia shouted as she stood up. Tears streamed down her face like a faucet
"No Emilia, I do love you. I love all my friends. I even love Ram" Subaru said
"Then why did you choose Rem!" Emilia demanded as she pointed to Rem as if she were the most useless thing in the world. Subaru sighed heavily
"Emilia... Me and Rem just went through a big journey together. We have spent so much time side by side you don't even realize it. When I was working here, I would talk to her every day. Not to mention the journey we went on to kill the white whale. Emilia please don't take it personal" Subaru said
Emilia just stood there and she still had tears roll down her face. She shot Rem one last death glance before bolting off. Subaru ran out to calm her down, and left Rem alone in the kitchen
Emilia ran to her room and slammed the door. Subaru arrived soon after, and knocked on the door
"Emilia please let me explain" Subaru said
"Go away Subaru!" Emilia shouted on the other side. Subaru sighed he wasn't going to give up on Emilia. He opened her door, and saw her in bed with a pillow over her face. Subaru heard her sob into the pillow, and felt bad for her. This was exactly why Subaru struggled so much deciding between the two. He hated seeing either of them in this position. It broke his heart so much to see his own friends futures get discarded, and instead of being happy with him have to settle on someone else who couldn't bring them the same amount of joy
"I told you to go away!" Emilia shouted into the pillow not turning to look at Subaru
"Emilia please... Calm down" Subaru said as he pulled a chair next to Emilia's bed
"How can I!? You lied to me!" Emilia said
"Emilia... I never said I didn't love you" Subaru said in a calm voice. Emilia removed her face from the pillow, and chucked the pillow at Subaru
"Yes you did! You choose Rem all because you two got teleported to your own world! I bet if I was teleported there instead of Rem you would have chosen me!" Emilia shouted at Subaru. Her eyes turned bloodshot. Her face full of red, with tears streaming down her cheeks
Subaru sighed "Emilia... I had a hard time choosing Rem. I...I didn't want to hurt either of your feelings. When we were in Japan, Rem made her move on me, and I couldn't find it in me to reject her... A second time"
Emilia looked Subaru in the eyes "A second time?"
"Yes a second time. The truth is when Rem and I were at chrushs mansion, Rem poured her guts out to me. I wanted to give up on trying to save people. I thought it was impossible to continue. I wanted to run off with her to Karaigi, and you know what she told me?"
Emilia stared at Subaru in the eyes waiting for his response
"She told me no, she would not run away with me. She would not let me leave you to die" Subaru said. Emilias face softened
"Really? Why?" Emilia asked. Her tears stopped streaming from her face. She couldn't believe Rem didn't run off with Subaru
"She said that she would leave behind the person she loved. She knew it wasn't like me to give up" Subaru said
"Ok... But why did you reject her" Emilia asked
"Because I loved you Emilia," Subaru said. Emilias face softened more
"Well... Why did you.."
"Emilia, I couldn't find it in me to reject her a second time... It wasnt right"
"I see..." Emilia started to understand Subarus decision. She felt a little bad that Rem got rejected. She knew it must of hurt
"Emilia just because I am with Rem doesn't mean we can not be good friends," Subaru said with a smile on his face. Emilia whipped her remaining tears from her face
"We can?" Emilia asked
"Of course we can Emilia don't be ridiculous," Subaru said. Emilia smiled, and lunged in for a hug
"Thank you Subaru," Emilia said. Subaru smiled and he was glad he was able to make Emilia feel better. Subaru pat Emilia on the head
"Anytime Emilia, anyways I should probably go talk to Rem. Is that ok?" Subaru asked. Emilia looked up at him still smiling
"Sure" Emilia said as she sat back down
"Thank you Emilia" Subaru said as he got up and made his way to the door
"Subaru can you please tell Rem I am sorry" Emilia asked. Subaru turned to look at her
"Of course," Subaru said. He then walked out into the hallways and went back to the kitchen. He entered in to the kitchen, and saw Rem stirring a pot with a frown on her face
She turned her head and saw Subaru stand at the door way with a smile on his face
"Rem, Emilia says she's sorry for yelling at you. I had a talk with her, and she is fine with us being together" Subaru said. Rem smiled. She dropped the spoon and ran up to Subaru and hugged him tightly
"She isn't mad at me," Rem said. Subaru still kept his smile
"No, she isn't mad at you. I worked it all out don't worry, but Rem can you please find it in you to forgive Emilia " Subaru said. Rem looked up at Subaru
"Rem will forgive Miss Emilia"
