My eyes fluttered open again when I felt a small peck on the tip of my nose, the older one carefully letting me down again.
I tried to hide the smile on my face by pressing my lips together, arms still wrapped around his neck while his hands lied on my hips.
"We should try that again another time", he chuckled sweetly, drawing small and comforting circles on my lower back with his fingers.
Somehow too delighted to say anything, I swiftly pulled him into a hug, burying my face in his chest and holding onto him as if it was the last time we saw each other.
After pushing him away for months he had never dared to leave my side and now that our relationship went uphill, I honestly could've stayed like this forever.
As always though, the universe, or better said NCT's infamous leader had different plans.
A loud ringing noise sounded, breaking the comfortable silence and echoed through the small bathroom.
Just as frustrated as me about the sudden interruption, Donghyuck groaned out loud and pulled a small object out of the pile of clothes that was placed on the counter.
"How the fuck did this even survive?" I frowned confused, narrowing my eyes at the older's phone while he glanced down at the name of the caller.
"Fuck, it's Taeyong", he mumbled under his breath, running a hand through his own wet hair as he read the long message he just received.
The brunette quickly looked back up, giving me an apologetic look before he brought his hand up to my cheek and caressed it softly.
I leaned into his touch without realizing it, already knowing what he was going to say.
"I have to go now or else I'm going to get killed."
There it was, reality reminding me that all good eventually had to end.
Disappointment settled across my face, but I nodded, understanding that it was not his own decision.
He had responsibilities as well, even if they meant being stuck at home to keep one safe from SVT.
Before I could react, he pressed a quick kiss on my forehead, the current sadness vanishing in no time just by a simple action like that.
'This is not a goodbye' I reminded myself, already excited for the next time we would meet. Donghyuck smiled at me one last time before he let go of me and went over to his soaking wet clothes placed on the counter.
I only watched him grab his stuff, crossing my arms in front of my chest and leaning my shoulder against the wall while he quickly squeezed the rest of the water in the sink. He was almost out the door when I chuckled in frustration, accidentally saying my thoughts out loud.
"You're really leaving your girlfriend like that, huh?"
As if we were both struck by lightning, we immediately stopped breathing, realizing what sentence had just left my lips.
He quickly stopped in his tracks and turned back around to look at me in confusion.
"I- wait", he shook his head with an empty mind, holding his clothes in his hands while looking at me in disbelief.
"Did you just say girlfriend?"
Kind of irritated that I had really said it without thinking, I tried to play it cool and shrugged my shoulders disinterested as if my heart was not just about to burst in my chest.
"I mean, that's what you told the guy down there or am I wrong?"
"Yeah, but that was because of- You know-" the brunette didn't know that to say, and thinking about it, I had never seen him nervous before.
Maybe flustered, but not nervous and speechless at the same time. I honestly didn't understand the situation either and instead watched everything unfold after mindlessly having spoken my mind.
For a short moment, the student rubbed his fingers over his eyelids before taking a sharp breath in.
"Is that your way of asking me out?"
My jaw immediately dropped hearing his question, somehow taken aback while I stared at him in confusion.
Was it?
I mean I didn't mention the relationship topic purposely, but now that I thought about it, I had been waiting for it to finally come up. My own pride was too big to tell him that though so I only snorted at his comment.
"Yeah right, as if I would be the type to ask someone out." The tone in my voice somehow got softer, slightly sheepishly and shy when I continued keeping our conversation up. "But you obviously like me and... I guess I can, you know... kind of stand you, so..."
I didn't notice that I was shyly pouting by now, nervously playing with the hem of my borrowed hoodie while looking in his direction with uncertainty.
It felt weird, getting this quiet in front of someone when your personality is in reality the exact opposite.
I luckily didn't have to say anything else and instead watched the older drop his stuff on the floor before rushing over to me, quickly cupping my cheeks with his warm hands. The next second he left countless little pecks all over my face, causing me to scrunch my nose in surprise and giggle at the sweet action of the brunette.
"You are freaking adorable, do you know that?" he chuckled in amusement after seeing my unfamiliar reaction, giving me heart eyes just like I did. I inhaled deeply, somehow embarrassed by him calling me adorable.
"I'm not. I'm badass", I frowned, causing the other to laugh.
"Mhm, keep telling yourself that."
The smiles on our faces were wide, enjoying every single second of our little exchange while knowing exactly how the other felt. Hyuck was in a hurry, but he still took his time to figure things out with me, once again placing his hands on my waist without breaking eye-contact.
Grinning like an idiot he brushed my hair behind my ear, my entire body filling with excitement.
"Would you like to be my girlfriend, sunshine?"
My heart skipped a beat when I finally heard the words I had been waiting for so long now. It was probably unnecessary to even ask since the answer was quite obvious at this point, but I was still glad.
I didn't want to talk around our relationship anymore, trying to explain to others what was going on between us when I couldn't be too sure myself. It was time to make it official.
Since our dynamic was never too lovey-dovey though, I still had to tease him about it.
"Now that I hear that question out loud, I kind of feel pressured", I frowned and scrunched my nose a little. "Maybe I should start something with Soyeon instead, she'd be a hot girlfriend, don't you think?"
Donghyuck quickly narrowed his eyes at me, poking his tongue against the inside of his cheek while he looked at me judging. "You really have to give me a hard time, don't you?"
"Yupp", I grinned from ear to ear. "I'm not the only one who has to get used to their partner now."
"So, it's a yes?" he chuckled lightly, bringing his face once again closer to mine.
"Definitely."
I softly grabbed him by the collar of his shirt before pulling him back closer to me, placing a sweet and meaningful kiss on his perfect lips while my heart was making joyful jumps.
Thinking about it, I hadn't felt this good in a long time and now that I got a taste of what the future could look like together with Hyuck, I wanted to grasp every bit of it and make this life my own.
No matter what the others were going go say.
The kiss didn't last long and I already missed him the moment he pulled away. It was okay though. We were officially starting our new journey together and even if there were tons of problems coming in our way, we would somehow solve them together.
"I should really get going now, or else Taeyong will murder me. I don't know about you, but I'd like to be your boyfriend for more than just half an hour."
I couldn't stop my face from turning into a bright red color, biting my lower lip while I tried to suppress the big smile adorning them.
"I'd like that too."
While nothing but happiness lingering in our nerves and hearts that beat to the same rhythm in perfect synchrony, Donghyuck tasted my lips one last time, not knowing when he would have the chance to feel them against his own again.
The moment was perfect and I wished I could stop time just to make it last a little bit longer.
"I'll text you later", my boyfriend reassured while picking his clothes back up from the ground.
"Take care."
And with those last words, he made his way out of the room, glancing at me lovingly before he disappeared out of my field of vision. There I stood alone again, already wanting to see him, and even though my breathing started to gradually calm itself, the beautiful feeling of euphoria never left my body.
Destiny had chosen a path for us and we were finally taking our first steps together.
