Previously:
Adrien pulled her into a bone crushing hug. Trying to hold onto her for life, but since he had been dizzy and fainting lately it came off weak and frail. He sobbed into her neckline. Marinette felt herself tear up to.
"Oh Chaton..."
Sadly, Marinette was sobbing for a different reason. She knew what she had to do.
"I-I promise, I won't leave you Adrien."
Nobody's POV
1 HOUR AWAY FROM MARINETTE LOSING HER MEMORY, CHAT BECOMING AKUMATIZED, AND YOU ALL FINDING OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKE THESE EVENTS OCCUR. (ITS ABOUT TO GO FROM 0 TO 100% REAL QUICK-)
It had been two days since Marinette and Adrien's conversation. And Marinette was at a crossroads.
Of course she loved her parents, her friends, her family, but she was doing this to protect them right? She had to. She couldn't even bring herself to think of Adrien. She knew the more she would think of him the more she would change her mind.
She felt herself tearing up. It was weird to think that soon she would wake up and not remember those kind green eyes and that dashing broad grin. He would be so-angry and be in so much pain- she could only imagine.
She had spent the last two days trying to make them the best for Adrien. She had never left his side. They talked and shared their secrets or their point of views in battles together. They talked about their future with the three kids and a hamster and the 9996 roses and dandelion.
She smiled sadly. She would never get to see those 9996 roses or the kids and the hamsters would she? I mean- someone else would see it-just not her. She froze. She was doing what was right. She had to. Adrien and her had taken a nap in each other's arms from a movie marathon when Marinette slowly crept out of bed.
Adrien might not have caught on to Marinette's plan but Plagg... Plagg had.
Marinette noticed him watching her as soon as she was about to leave.
Marinette smiled, "Take care of him for me, will you? If Adrien has to lose me I'm going to make sure he won't lose you. And when Adrien get's better and when you finally defeat Hawkmoth... remember me for who I am now okay..?"
Marinette swore she had seen Plagg tear up.
"Okay, Marinette."
She smiled before letting a tiny sob escape through the pain and running as fast as she could. This would be the end.
Gabriel's POV
No sign of Adrien of Marinette surrendering. I sighed. Did:t he understand I was doing this for his well being? Well... if he wasn't going to give me my miraculous I would have to take it by force. Emilie was so close now, and I wasn't stopping for anything.
I wanted to be that perfect family again and I wanted to be happy again. The amuk inside him was rotting though and the only way to slow down the process was with a black little butterfly.
Ms. Rossi had done well. I gripped the earrings cautiously. Nathalie nodded to me. I smiled. I released the black butterfly into the air. This would be the end.
Nobody's POV
Adrien had woken up twenty minutes after Marinette had left. He stretched contently. It had been a little weird sleeping with his girlfriend since he certainly couldn't come home, but he couldn't be happier. He looked down and smiled he was wearing the black and green paw print sweater she had made for him.
Once they could get Tikki back and fix the miracle box everything would be perfect! This would be the end!
Adrien's POV
I smiled reaching over to pepper my Princess with kisses... but she wasn't there. I patted around for her on the bed, but-
I opened my eyes to see that she had left.
"Hick!"
"Marinette?" I called.
"Hick!"
"What the hell is that-"
He turned behind him to see Plagg.
"I'm-I'm so *hick* sorry kid." Plagg sobbed.
"Plagg what are you-"
The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. Fuck.
FUCK.
Nobody's POV
He ran down the streets frantically. He knew exactly where she went. The Arc de Triumph. All the way around Paris. He had just gotten a notification on his phone from the Mayor and Ladybug, that said to not come outside, which means Marinette had planned to-
He couldn't think about that now. He had to keep going.
As he was sprinting down the streets he saw a voicemail from Marinette. Still running he swiped the message.
This couldn't be the end.
"Adrien... I love you... and that's why I lied." Shit. He ran down the bruised streets of Paris screaming for his lady to come out. Fear consumed him. If he didn't find her right now- He stopped in his tracks. His mind was yelling at him to go and look for Marinette but his body was stiff as a board. He couldn't move if he tried, suddenly he dropped to the ground clutching his heart. What the hell was going on. There was no fear or anger or pain, there was nothing... he didn't feel anything. Suddenly a voice came to him as a purple outline formed around his face, "Hello, Chat Blanc."
Marinette's POV
I knew exactly what I was doing. I had made it to the Arc de Triumph.
There was a fear though. A pain. To forget all of this. I didn't want to forget anyone. Even the people I used to wish I would like Lila or Chloe. Life was a gift. I didn't want to-
And Adrien. I bared my teeth into my bottom lip just thinking about it. I'm sure I tasted blood. Adrien. My Adrien. My Kitty. I didn't want to leave him at all. I- the very thought-
I felt myself break down in tears. I had to be strong though for Adrien, for everyone.
I wanted to remember all of them. I wanted to live. I would still be loving even with my memory gone. Right?
I sighed. I didn't even realizing how much I was shaking this-this was-
This was the end.
Nobody's POV
Marinette felt herself being pulled back. She let out a stifled gasp. One hand was on her chest and one on her waist. She recognized the feel of leather.
Being in his touch, his familiar, soon to be unfamiliar touch made her cry. She couldn't help but let out a short little sobs. She knew she had to stop. She knew she had to be strong. But being with this boy made it so fucking hard to do the right thing. She wanted to be selfish. She wanted to be with him.
"It was supposed to be you and me against the world, so tell me, M'Lady when did it become you against me." His words were chalked with pain and his eyes- she didn't even know how to explain his eyes. This was her kitty, her prince, she had to let him go, and it took everything in her to do so. She was afraid just like Adrien. Leaving her partner didn't seem like a possibility. It shouldn't have been a possibility... But it had to be.
She looked up at him slowly. If this was going to happen, no matter how hard, she wanted to stare into his kind green eyes one last time- she was caught by surprise at the white mask and the icy blue eyes that met her.
He looked a her his lips trembling. He looked scared. He looked in pain. He looked alone.
Adrien tried to fight the akuma but... the more he thought about it... he couldn't lose Marinette like he did his mom. He-
"M'Lady..." Adrien reached out to touch his beloved partner. She was shaking on the ground clutching her ears in the spots where her earrings used to be. She flinched as she saw his hand coming towards her. He withdrew his hand from her. She looked up at him, her lip trembling, tears brimming in her eyes, as she gasped for air. He knew what he did was wrong but he wasn't going to lose his partner. Not without a fight. Marinette spoke out her voice cracked and said, "Adrien. I love you," Adrien shook his head not believing what she was about to do, "And I know you're upset but you can't do this. I know it's hard but you'll be just fine I promise. Besides I don't wanna spend our last moments to-toge-together-" She never finished that sentence.
He couldn't. The memories flashed back in that moment.
