Thirty-Seven:- Dangerously Cheesy

•Jadrianne's Apartment•

"You thirsty?" Jadrianne asked from the kitchen counter. Nathan only nodded his head as he made himself comfortable on her sofa.

While she was preparing drinks, her eyes stared forward as her mind shrouded with thoughts. I can't believe how easy I can just tell him something I don't like remembering. She shook her head and brought their drinks over to him once she was done.

Nathan's eyes fixed on her as she silently set the cups on the table. He couldn't help but notice how she put his cup on a coaster while hers wasn't.

Jadrianne leaned back against one of end of the couch sitting cross-legged facing Nathan. The brunet subconsciously copied her movements one his end of the couch. He kept silent and patiently wait for her to get comfortable.

She rubs the back of her neck and exhaled. "Well, I guess it's story time." Jadrianne sighed and crossed her arms as her eyes stared at the cushion in between them, thinking of where to start. After a moment, she decided to start it with: "My . . . older brother came . . ."

Nathan's breath hitched in his throat the moment she said the first sentence.

Flashback

"Long time no see, baby sister."

Deep green eyes like hers, taller, broader, muscular, and a deeper voice. She noticed all these in one look and listen. She doubted who it was, but she never forgets one's intention through their eyes. The man in front of her was no exception.

This man was none other than her older brother, Kayne Clarke.

Jadrianne said nothing and only stared at him with no emotion held in her eyes. The elder sibling, Kayne, chuckled lowly as he stepped closer to her. "Are you going to greet me, adelfí?"

The shorter sibling's jaw tightened despite her eyes staying emotionless; she opened the door wider and stepped aside. Kayne smirked and stepped inside. The blond intimidating man walk inside her apartment and scanned the environment. He made no comment but only lets out an audible hum.

As his emerald orbs look around, they paused for a moment when they spot the kitchen. It was only a few seconds before he pulled his vision away from it when he heard the front door being locked.

"So, how have you been, Anne?"

Hearing the name, Jadrianne stopped in her tracks but didn't look at him. Kayne noticed her actions and turned back to face her tall windows that look over the town. "I see you've used your inheritance well. It is a nice place," he commented, "it suits you. High up and overlooking all that is below."

The blond sibling chuckled lowly. "As expected, superiority runs in our blood, of course, to be above everyone else."

The last statement made Jadrianne turn around. "Why are you here?"

Kayne turned away from the window and folded his arms as he made eye contact with his younger sister. "Why? To see you, of course! I wanted to see my baby sister in her senior year of high school!"

His words and the look in his eyes didn't match. ". . . You hate me. Try again."

A devious smirk displayed on Kayne's lips at her response and he slightly laughed. "Sharp as always, Anne. You never disappoint. Oh, wait. You are the disappointment."

The mockery doesn't phase her. In fact, it bored her.

"Why are you here?" She repeated, "I don't want to know why you showed up after years, but I do know that the next time you show up; I won't be as welcoming as now. I advise that you tell me."

The subtle threat didn't irritate him, instead, it amused him even further. Like sister, like brother.

"How cute that you expect yourself to be here in this low life area. Somehow, I agree that you should stay here." He gestured his hand carelessly around.

Jadrianne fully faced him from her standing. "Since we are on the same page, I believe you have no business with my life anymore now."

Kayne scoffed and gave a devilish grin. "You think you're free just because you were not in our sight?" He shook his head and chuckled lowly as he approached her until they were intimidatingly close.

The older sibling's expression changed from carefree to a dark looming look. "Don't forget, kyra Anne, you can't run away from responsibilities."

Jadrianne didn't flinch, but she knew when her own brother's serious or not. She held a threatening glare as heavy as his but stayed silent.

Kayne sighed after relaxing his expression. "Ah, I still have jetlag." He ruffled the hair at the back of his head. The taller shoved his hands in his pockets before brushing past her to head to the door. "Anyways, I hope you are aware of what position you're in, adelfí."

Jadrianne remained silent and walked behind Kayne while maintaining a good distance from him. He reached for the doorknob and before he twists it open, he spoke again, "Ah." He looked at her over her shoulder. "It's been a while since I tasted your cooking."

Jadrianne's hand balled into a fist behind her back when he said that. He knew she wasn't alone before.

"Cook for me sometime," he said as he opened the door. Before he left, he said his final message of the night with a grin that held a meaning that doesn't come off as favourable, "Enjoy this simple life while you can, adelfí because it won't last long."

Flashback End

Jadrianne sighed when she finished telling her memory. She looked up to see Nathan's face and she raised her eyebrow when she saw his blank expression. "Are you . . . sleeping with your eyes open?" She asked as she poked his nose.

The brunet blinked for a moment before lifting his hand up to her and flicked her forehead. "Ah!" Jadrianne held a hand to it.

"YOU HAVE A BROTHER?!"

"Wow, is that your take from all of that?" She rubbed her forehead.

Nathan continued to shout, "What kind of brother would say stupid stuff like that?! If only I could get a piece of mind with that piece of . . ."

Jadrianne watched and listen to him grumble and ramble on about his unpleasantness of her brother. Some partners would be considerate before cursing out their partner's siblings no matter how bad they are. However, Nathan didn't care. He was straight up pissed.

"So, your brother was the reason you didn't text back?! Damn it! I even blamed you for another idiot's doing! Gah! I wanna rip this sofa but then I don't wanna pay for damages. Argh! Is he even a brother?! Who threatens their little sister?!" Nathan groaned and ruffled his hair.

She didn't expect that.

Jadrianne watches as Nathan rambles on in frustration over her older brother. Her emerald eyes took their time watching his messy hair, to his furrowed eyebrows, his usual scowl, and his big hands that were balling into fists. It was all endearing to her.

"Wow! I haven't felt this mad in so-"

A deep sigh released from Jadrianne that cut Nathan off from rambling. Nathan stopped and all his attention was on her who had her head on her knees. He won't say but he was slightly worried.

"Wh-What? Me complaining annoyed you?" He stuttered and laughed awkwardly. "Good! That's how I feel around you anyways!" He huffed and leaned back against the armrest with pride.

". . ."

Nathan blinked over the lack of response and sat a bit more modestly while attentively facing her. "Hey . . . You." He rubbed the back of his neck thinking, "You, okay, Jade?"

When Jadrianne lifted her head, the smile on her rosy lips made Nathan frown. It wasn't because it was a teasing smile, it was because her eyes reflected such solemnness.

She looks at him and said, "I really like you after all."

Badump!

Nathan bit his lip as his cheeks began to flush pink. She's testing my limits, I swear. He shook his head and reached over to her. "They may call you a 'prince'," he said as he pulled her to him, "but you're actually this little maiden in distress, huh."

Before she knew it, Nathan had pulled her onto his lap with both her legs rested against the sides of his waist and her hands on his shoulders. Stunned was all she was.

This is a first. She couldn't help but realise that.

"I hate to say this to an idiot like you, but," Nathan simpered when he caught her off-guard, "you're actually a little fragile these days." He placed his hands on her hips with his thumb comfortingly caressing them.

"It's cute."

Badump!

"Oh . . ." Was all she uttered.

That brought him back, though.

The grip on her hips tightened as she witnessed the vein making its appearance on his temple. "Y-You! I just said some cheesy shit, and this is what you say?! You ungrateful-"

This time he got stunned by her surprise attack with her lips. It simmered any frustration he had before, and it made him giddy. He could feel her warmth against him—from her hands that were on the sides of his face all the way to her hips that fit perfectly against his hands. He forgot how comforting it was when they kissed.

He won't say it, but he's a little glad that he got reminded of it.

Jadrianne could tell that ever since they got together, they both changed. She had never thought he was capable of saying such words with such arrogance that for the first time, it was attractive rather than amusing.

The kiss was slow, yet it spoke to them as though they needed this. Nathan was not one for romantics, but at this point, he felt as though he has newfound instincts when it comes to her. He became eager.

She made him eager.

Jadrianne wrapped her arms around his neck to get closer and he had the same idea where his own arms circled around her waist so, the warmth of their bodies are left with no gaps. The young couple parted after a while and they sat in each other's arms with their foreheads pressed against one another.

She was the first to speak. "I don't think I can get used to this."

Nathan pulled his head away a bit and queried, "Used to what?"

"You being all cute and sweet for me. I really want to kiss you again," she admitted with a playful grin.

The brunet scoffed and challenged her, "Who's stopping you?"

The question made her frown as an answer struck her. "Hey, don't bring the mood down now, pinhead. Why you look like that?" He became serious and rubbed the sides of her waist.

"There may be someone who would stop us." She looked at him with a firmness in her eyes. "My brother."

Nathan groaned and threw his head back. "Who cares about him? If he's one of those guys who butts in their sibling's relationship, then I'll show him that I don't mess with anyone who messes with you."

He really knows what to say but he's stupid sometimes that it's too adorable. She concluded despite her heart swelling at his protectiveness.

"I appreciate the defending, Nathan, but my brother- no, my family are not people you should handle like you always do." She stroked his cheek as her eyes take in his facial features. "I don't want you to jump into fire."

Nathan snorted and softly grabbed her hand. "Jump into fire? Have you forgotten that I'm a Demon? I've been to hell and I don't mind paying a little visit."

Jadrianne chuckled and shook her head at his confidence. "You're getting too comfortable with that nickname."

Sooner or later, 'comfortable' was far from what they are about to face in the next chapter.
