Coming to terms with one's sexuality can and in most cases is the root of a lot of violence. This can be present at home, schools, and in public. Homosexuals can experience severe discrimination and bullying where it often affects one's mental health and/or lead to depression/suicide. According to "LGBT Teens, Bullying, and Suicide." by Harold S. Koplewicz, MD, "Suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescence, and gay teens are 4 times more likely than straight teens to attempt suicide". I know that for me, I experienced bullying to the point where I was experiencing self-harm and depressive thoughts. It is a very slippery, dangerous slope. Especially when you lack the resources and the help you need.
