Roselle's POV
The last thing I remember is being knocked out after some mysterious, shadowy figure said my name. Now, it appears that I am tied to a chair in a dark room. I can't see anything. All the lights are off. It smells of old papers and something else that I can't quite make out in here. I struggle against the restraints that are holding me to the chair. "Don't bother struggling with them, Roselle. They will just make you weaker than you already are," a voice snarls from behind me. I struggle with the ropes fiercely, but it's no use.
I feel weak, tired, and hopeless, but that doesn't mean I have to act that way. I've always been good at concealing my emotions. Now, it's time to put that strength to the test. "Alright, let's get this over with. What do you want?" I ask pure sass rolling off of my tongue. "What I want is the information that you have on Hunter Davis." I'm beginning to become frightened a little bit, but obviously, I don't show it. How the heck does he know who Hunter is? I don't ever remember Hunter mentioning some strange place like this. I decide that playing dumb is the best way to go.
"Who's Hunter?" I innocently ask. The figure frowns. He narrows his eyebrows.
"Don't play dumb with me. You know exactly what I'm talking about," he growls.
"Are you sure about that? I don't even know who you are. Who are you anyway? Can I at least know the name of my kidnapper?"
"My name is for me to know, and for you to find out. Technically, I didn't kidnap you. I just 'borrowed' you," he replies.
"Okay then, Mr. Mysterious."
"Roselle just shut your mouth. We have work to do. Information that I need from you. If you would just tell me about your connection to Hunter, this would be a whole lot easier."
"Hmmm, how can I be more annoying?" I think to myself. Suddenly, an idea springs into my head. He did tell me to shut my mouth, which means that I don't have to answer him. A smug smile forms on my face as I shake my head 'no'.
There is absolutely no way in heck that I am going to explain Hunter and I's 2-year long relationship to a complete stranger. Besides, it's a long and very complicated story to explain. Especially without context. Why does this guy need all this information? What does he plan to do with it? Obviously, I can't ask him that. Maybe he's someone who's out to get Hunter for some reason. Whatever the reason, even though he was never good to me, I can't and won't risk his life for the sake of my kidnapper.
"Cut the act," he says angrily. "We need to begin your interrogation, but if you're going to be all defiant like this, then I don't think we'll be able to do that."
"What does it matter to you anyway? Why can't you just let me go? Aren't there other people for you to interrogate, jerk face?"
"Okay, first of all, the name is Caleb. Second of all, no, we can't because that's not how it works angel face." He says with mock-sympathy in his voice.
Okay, his name is Caleb. There's that, but I still need more of a background on him.
"Why?" I ask again, just to be extra annoying.
"That isn't how it works. We singled you out because you have the most valuable information for what we need. I can explain. You dated Hunter. Hunter is the leader of the enemy gang. You must have valuable information on him, which is exactly what we need. If it will make you give us the information, then we'll help you track him down and figure out what to do from there."
"Okay," I respond.
"Okay? That's it? You're just going to agree with me like that?" He asks confused.
"Yup."
"After how defiant you were acting earlier before, I find that hard to believe. Are you working for his gang?" he questions.
"Look, I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm definitely not a part of any gangs. Why would I even be here right now if I was? Wouldn't I be sneaking into your hideout or whatever it's called?" I ask.
I've realized that joining Caleb could actually be a good thing. Besides, he said he'd help me track down Hunter. Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe, just maybe, I'll find out what happened to him. Why he seemed so distant towards the end of our relationship. Maybe by working with Caleb, I'll gain some valuable information of my own. This could actually be a wise move on my part for once.
"I suppose that would," he ponders for a second before continuing to question me. "But, why would you want to join me all of a sudden? Do you have a reason that you need to get back at Hunter?" he presses.
"I don't know. Maybe I just got sick of all the death threats and mistreating, and all of that good stuff," I reply.
He raises an eyebrow. He's clearly intrigued now. I've got him right where I want him. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
"Death threats? Dang, he wanted to kill you? Was your whole relationship fake or something then?" he asks skeptically.
"It wasn't fake. It just seemed like he never cared. Also, we haven't broken up yet. He just missed our anniversary." I explained frustratedly.
"Someone gets upset easily," Caleb remarks.
"Thanks for finally realizing that I have triggering topics that are difficult for me to talk about jerk face," I say again.
"Stop calling me jerk face."
"Not until you stop being one."
Our stupid fight continues like this for a while. I'm kind of getting tired of this, but it's honestly more fun to call him jerk face than his real name. The fact that it annoys him is just an extra bonus.
"Alright, well, now that we know that we can trust you a little bit, let's begin your interrogation."
"We? Who's we?" I ask cautiously.
"You'll find out in a minute," he answers with a dark chuckle.
