The sun woke me up at the ungodly hour of seven in the morning, well, that and the ever so annoying knocking at my door. Persisting stronger than my will to sleep. Eventually caving in, I call out, "What?!"
John walked in with a smile on his face, he was up to something. My thoughts were confirmed when he walked directly towards my closet.
He said, "I had the most amazing idea at five when I woke up, so I went on a run and thought about it."
He looked at me, mischief in his eyes. He continued raiding my closet.
"So I have been thinking, how do you truly humiliate our father. We can't act like our Manhattan selves, you already tried that and it didn't work."
"Okay, and?"
"Lea, what is the best way to get back at the CEO of the world's most adored beauty and fashion brand?"
"Do tell."
"We must out Robinson the Robinson."
"How?"
My interest was piqued, what on Earth could truly mess with Arthurs brain.
"The Robinson brand's most noticeable feature is how it sticks to gender roles, only giving masculine colors to men and vise versa. So what can we do?"
I shot up in my bed with a wide smile, "Break the gender norm."
...
John and I stood at the top of the steps, smiling at each other. John wore a fuzzy pink crop top and skirt, with a full face of makeup. We brushed out his curls to loosen them and make his hair appear longer. He also rocked his thigh length platform boots.
I on the other hand now had a short and fluffy haircut that we gelled back into a pony. I wore a lady suit and dress shoes, John wanted me to wear a fedora but I drew the line and said no.
We looked stunning.
John whispered to me, "Now we must set our plan in action, you ready."
I nodded my head before calling out, "Dad!"
The word felt foreign on my tongue, like it didn't belong there. Alas, Arthur needed to think that I had warmed up to him.
I heard him call back, "Yes?"
I ducked down so he wouldn't see me while John hid in my room, I continued.
"I was wondering if we could let the press know about our arrival."
I heard him hesitate before responding, "Are you ready for that?"
"Yeah, they're gonna' have to learn about us at one point. Why delay the inevitable?"
"Alright I will schedule an interview for noon, I will have it take place in the garden."
I heard him walk by, I snuck back into my room to see John holding back laughter. I checked the clock, we only had to hide out for half an hour then our plan was a go.
I glanced back at my closet, I would have to look through it later to see what I had. That wasn't important at the moment though.
...
I heard Arthur call from downstairs that we could make our entrance whenever we liked and that he would be out answering any pre questions.
Before we walked out we both put on large sunglasses, to shield some of our identity. Before we got to the garden a felt a bit of fear swell in me, I grabbed John's hand and squeezed. He squeezed back and told it would be alright, that we're doing this for a reason. It calmed me down and soon I was ready.
