"There has to be some sort of reason we have magic, right?" Roman asks as they're all laid down, ready to sleep. "I mean, what else do you do with magic other than fight evil?"
"Psh, I'd rather it stay like this. I don't wanna spend hours and hours trying to kill things. I'd rather just relax and vibe." Virgil says, currently on his phone.

"Our powers can be useful! We can do good things with them without fighting big monsters." Patton says.

"Patton's correct, though I would probably use mine to try and find buried artifacts or fossils." Logan says, reading a book.
"Wait so, you guys have known about your powers for a while, right? What all can you do with them?" Roman asks.

"I can fly, make wind, tornadoes- but I won't ever do that one-, Umm yeah, that's basically it for me." Patton says. "I can bend water and breathe, see, and hear under it. Well, liquid in general I can control." Virgil says, shrugging. "I can manipulate the ground or anything made from the earth, such as rocks." Logan says.

"Wait wait wait, Virgil, any liquid?" Roman asks. Virgil nods. "Water, oil, blood, hell even lube-" Virgil mumbles. Roman snickers a little. "So, what I'm gathering is, you could control-"

"That's enough of that, kiddos, let's not get inappropriate here." Patton interrupted. Virgil rolls his eyes. "You're such a fucking pervert.." he mumbles, looking at Roman.

The next morning, Patton was making breakfast for everyone before they had to go to school.

"Ugh, why can't we just like, I dunno, not have school? It sucks." Virgil mumbles, putting a pillow over his head. "I mean, I can give you a believable fever-" Roman says, still wrapped in a blanket.

"No, we are not playing hooky! That's wrong.." Patton says. "God- I'm freezing, how are you all not cold?!" Roman complained, shivering a bit.
Logan got out a thermometer (because of course he has one. Mom friend) and handed it to Roman. Roman looks at it and shook his head. "I-i'm not sick!"

"You don't know that." Logan says. Roman sighs, taking the thermometer and taking his temperature. When it beeped, Logan took it back, reading it. "Yes, you are."
Virgil read it as well, and seemed confused. "What? It says 97.6, isn't that normal?" he asks. "For most people, yes. However, Roman's natural body temperature has always been higher, probably due to his magic. His temperature should usually be up in the hundreds." Logan responds.

"How do you know that, Logan?" Patton asks curiously. "Roman and I have known each other since childhood; I know a lot about him." Logan says.
"Wait, is that part of the reason you said ‘I thought so’ when I lit the torch?" Roman asks. "Yes. Having a natural body temperature of- usually- 150 degrees Fahrenheit was extremely odd, so I knew something had to be different about you." Logan tells him.

"150?!" Virgil asks, looking shocked and confused. ".. Yeah." Roman says, smiling awkwardly. "The hell... I get a fever of 103° and I'm all dizzy and faint-y.." Virgil mumbles.

Roman sighs, standing up shakily. "I'm gonna go run a hot shower, see if that helps." he says.

Patton set out food for the rest of them as Roman went to take a shower.

~~~
"113 degrees. At least it's going up." Logan says. He had taken Roman's temperature again before they headed off to school.
After school, Virgil didn't really feel like hanging out. Not immediately; he needed a little alone time. So, he went to the beach (they live in Florida, near a coast), going out of view from other people before diving into the water.
He could actually move quite fast underwater; he used his powers to push himself through the water, usually. He finds it quite peaceful underwater- no car horns, no people. Just ocean sounds.
One thing he liked about his powers is the fact that he could see in any water; clear, murky, or just too deep to get sunlight. He usually stayed in the parts that did receive the sunlight, though. Not because he was afraid or anything, but because that's where a lot of the things people lose end up.
He also finds a lot of seashells, which he was looking for at the moment. A weird hobby, one he hasn't told his friends about. Does he think they'll make fun of him? No.
... Maybe, but that's not the reason he doesn't say. He's just embarrassed about it because he thinks, as a social outcast, he has to be a certain way, like certain things, etcetera.
He eventually started swimming back to the surface, having a small bag of shells with him.
He went to his house, setting his things down and getting his homework out. Does he think he can do it? No. He sucks. But he has to try or the teacher fails him.
‘I wonder how Roman's doing..’ he wondered, pulling out his phone. ‘hey’ he texts.
R: hey.
V: how's your.. Uh, antifever?
R: that's seriously what you're calling it?
V: the hell else is it called?
R: okay, fair
R: it went up, I think it's about 125 now. So I guess it's good?
V: I still can't believe your normal body temperature is like, 150. That's fucking nuts
R: I thought it was normal until I was 7
V: yeah, cuz you're a himbo
R: bye. 🙄
V: oh come on, I was joking!
R: you're right, I guess "himbos" are strong and stuff, so I'll forgive it 😎
V: you think you're strong?
R: I know I am. I do go to the gym regularly, you know
V: that doesn't mean shit
R: I can lift twice my bodyweight
V: ... Fine, you're stronger than me, but there are people stronger-
R: I know
R: hey I gotta go, my brother is being annoying.😒 See you tomorrow
V: see ya ✌
