Spencer lifted that layer to find one of the finest bottles of bourbon laying on its side. "See, Em, it's something this kid needs." Emily just shrugged with a smile and turned back to the genius who carefully examined every inch of one of the glasses.

Everyone laughed and joked as Spencer opened the rest of the gifts that laid in front of him. Hotch had gotten him a box set of brilliantly patterned, monochrome ties.

JJ got Spencer a mug that had printed onto it photocopies of drawings that Henry and Michael have made of and for Spencer, causing him to choke up a bit at the cuteness.

Rossi's gift is what sent Spencer over the edge, though. Rossi got Spencer two bookend sets: one was chess pieces – one side was a knight and the other a castle – and the other, well the other bookend came with a note taped to the top, reading:

In honor of the man that felt like a brother to me and a father to you.

Each end was built of copper, sculpting the shape of two books stacked on top of each other with a small bird that bore a striking resemblance to a Nelson's Sparrow on top of the stack on each side.

"Nelson's Sparrows were his favorite." Spencer whispered so quietly, you were sure the remark was meant for only him to hear. You noticed a single, glistening tear run along Spencer's cheek before he abruptly swiped it away.

You leaned up from your curled up position to rub your hand along Spencer's back. You didn't even notice Garcia, Morgan, and Emily give each other the same looks they had earlier. Sure, you and Spencer were the more touchy friends with each other, but it was never really... affectionate.

That was when Garcia eyed your inner thigh. In getting up to console Spencer, you had kept your right leg bent into you, dangling you left leg off the couch, leaving your entire inner thigh exposed.

Garcia's eyes widened. Forgetting the overall mood of the room, she gasped and pointed to your leg exclaiming, "Are those... hickeys?!" Everyone's attention turned to Garcia, then to where her finger was pointed.

You swear your heart stopped for a second there, but your years of acting and improv training never fail to come in handy when it came to lies. So, you shrugged nonchalantly said, "Yeah, good Tinder hookup." Garcia and Emily squealed as Morgan gave you a nod and thumbs up. You saw Spencer visibly relax out of the corner of your eye.

"You have to tell us all about him!" Penelope clapped her hands.
"Or her!" Emily quickly added on.

You faked a laugh and said, "Okay, okay, but another time. It's still the doctor's birthday, and he needs to drive me to my place so I can give him my gift. I left it at home."

After sharing a few more laughs and hugs, Spencer's front door finally shut, leaving you and him in your much needed peace.

Spencer groaned happily at the serenity, stumbling over to you and pulling you into a soft hug. "That was close." He whispered in your ear.
"Never been happier to have done theatre throughout my entire childhood." You huffed out a laugh, pulling Spencer closer to you.

Spencer leaned his forehead on your shoulder as your hand snaked up into his hair, running your fingers through the curly strands.

Spencer finally sighed, pulling back from you only to cup your face, running his thumbs along your cheeks, and kissing you softly. You kissed back but only for a short period of time before you pulled away and told him, "Okay, but I wasn't lying about the fact I left your gift at my place. Let's get changed, I have a whole day planned."

Spencer excitedly pulled away and changed into his outfit for the day: a cozy-looking open cardigan that was cream on the top half and grey on the bottom; a black collared button up, speckled with white; brown corduroy pants; and his signature mismatched socks and black converse.

Spencer finally emerged holding your clothes from yesterday in a nicely folded pile. You smiled at him, taking the pile, and beginning to strip Spencer's clothes. "Do you, uh, want a pair of my boxer briefs? They're more form fitting so you don't have to rewear your underwear, and you don't have to try to stuff my boxers into your pants." You laughed and nodded, and Spencer ran to grab you some of his underwear.

You finally finished changing, so you both grabbed your things and headed back to Spencer's car, not bothering to clean up the mess of wrapping paper.

So much had happened this morning and it was only 10:00 am. You'd witnessed a glimpse of Spencer's raw emotions, both last night and this morning, even if it was only for a moment. He was the the one with whom you felt most vulnerable...
You just hoped he'd make it there too.
