What Do I Write About?

Oh! I have thought about it, hard and long,

Do I write a rhyme, a verse or a simple song?

And what do I write about, what to pick

What is that would make the poem click?

Maybe about mountains, majestic and tall,

Or red and gold leaves, the colours of fall?

Azure seas, placid lakes or rivers in spate,

Or about arid lands, for rains desperate?

Fluttering butterflies, of birds in flight,

Or star studded skies of the darkest night?

Nature is beautiful, a delight endless,

So difficult to choose, I must confess.

Maybe it could be about the multiple arts,

From serious literature to children's crafts.

The brilliant brushstrokes of a famed painter,

Or the ever changing moods of an actor?

How cotton fluff can be woven to dreams

Or with a magician, nothing is what it seems?

The potter with his wooden wheel and clay,

Or warm latte art at a small roadside café.

The sculptor who can make dead stones speak,

Or a philosopher, who of answers does seek?

The power of music, the joy of dance,

On which of these do I take a chance?

Search for inspiration in a story book,

Or seek it in every cranny or nook?

Or mull over hot coffee and conversations,

Over cooker whistles and hundred questions.

Watch numbing TV, shuffle the news,

Talk to friends, gather some views?

The sounds of silence, the silence in noise,

To which of these do I lend my voice?

In the end, still clueless, I thought it best,

To simply write about my unresolved quest.
