Of Happiness and Sorrow

A courage, reluctant happiness does borrow,

A strange union, both bitter and sweet,

You fail, a friend succeeds, and envy,

Floods your heart; its magnetic pull,

Leaves little space for genuine joy.

Push that dejection to a distant hole,

And as a guest, welcome, good cheer.

Then there is a courage of sorrow,

When stern duty and great grief do meet,

Sadness vast as space makes a heart heavy.

Gloom floods you to the full,

And friends and guests alike, do annoy;

A magnetic to pain, as your loss all do condole.

But be strong; joy seems distant, yet is near.
