Chapter 42- Our Wedding

Start from the beginning

“You can’t see each other. You are getting married today. You’re not supposed to see the bride before the wedding,” Brit informed me completely ignoring what I was insinuating to.

“Brit, it’s okay. Luke needed me. He’s always been there for me, I couldn’t not be there for him,” Bridget told her best friend.

“But,” Brit started.

“No but’s Brit. This is our choice,” Bridget told her while pulling me to her side.

“This is not just Luke’s choice, right?” Brit asked, “It’s yours too?”

“I tried to talk her out of it,” I told Brit.

“I don’t believe it!” Brit exclaimed.

“Believe it or not, it’s the truth,” Bridget informed her.

“How are you going to explain this to everyone?” Brit asked us.

“Why does it matter?” I asked, “It’s our choice and no one else’s.”

“You know your momma is going to want an explanation,” Bridget said to me.

I just shrugged my shoulders. We just stood there looking at one another for a while. I’m sure Brit was planning her next move. I just held onto Bridget tightly.

“You want to go get breakfast?” I asked Bridget as I heard her stomach rumble.

“I’m starving,” Bridget said as she turned to face me with a smile on her face.

“Well, let’s go! Brit, are you coming?” I asked as we started to walk out the door.

“I’m coming. Let me call Jason. He can grab the kids and meet us downstairs,” Brit said.

Bridget and I continued down the hallway as Brit called Jason while she was straggling along behind us. He agreed to bring the kids down to meet us. This would be the first time we really got to spend any time with the kids since I’ve been home. We saw them for maybe thirty minutes last night, but by the time that we all got settled it was time for them to head to bed. As we walked into the area where we were eating I was surprised to see all of our family and friends here already.

“What on earth is going on?” Momma said in shock.

“We are getting ready to eat breakfast. Isn’t that what we are all down here for?” I questioned her in a smartass tone.

“Thomas Luther! Don’t make me come over there!” Momma shouted across the room getting everyone’s attention.

“Well, since we have your attention now, Luke and I are still getting married this evening, but we decided that we are far from being a traditional couple we aren’t going to partake in all the traditional things leading up to the wedding,” Bridget explained to everyone.

The look on everyone’s face was killer. I think it was safe to say everyone was shocked at our decision. I overheard someone ask Brit if she knew and she told them she had just found out herself. By the time that the shock was wearing off Jason came into the room with the kids.

“Daddy! Daddy!” Bo and Tate said in unison as they came running up to me, jumping into my arms.

“Hey boys!” I greeted them as I bent down and hugged them.

“Easy!” Bridget scolded, “Daddy’s hurt!”

“I’m fine, Bridge,” I told her letting her know I was okay.

“Good morning, Momma,” Kenzie said as she hugged her momma before pulling her off to the side.

“What is it babygirl?” Bridget asked her.
