Conservatives do not own tradition,
not classicism, not metre nor rhyme,
have no exclusive claim on halls of time;
enlightenment's as old as reaction.

Aping old modes brings no satisfaction,
unless in breathing through the pantomime
you round wonder's eyes, as at the first time
Gorgon's rattle slewed in shield reflection.

God is not embedded in ancient verse
nor 'noble' virtues (stamped on blood money)
but doubts of blind fate, perfidy's warning,

dancing choruses denouncing hubris,
nothing tasteless, backfilling comedy.
Leave with a shiver;  think on till morning.

The sonnet is written against the ludicrous 'Society of Classical Poets' classicalpoets.org which is a bunch of semi-fascist Americans writing odes on the 'Second Trump inauguration'?? and  mythical beasts like 'voter fraud'.  They have no right  even to claim to usurp formal poetry for the lunatic  fringe far right, tarnishing tradition with their turdy third rate smears.
Now on racism, bigotry, delusion, lies, misinformation, folly, hypocrisy, they have a much greater, though again not exclusive, claim.

Grr!

Vaccines are coming
and twats are getting lax.
Morrisons' plain dangerous,
if you care about the facts.
Aldi is better,
though covidiots one or two,
no mask on or big nose out,
say, 'Well, fuck you!'

..............

Morrisons and Aldi are supermarkets here.

Fill the Tall Glass Too

Don't mix the Islay; use a water chaser,
but not until the taste of peat subsides

Hangover prevention, the tall glass
against the tot glass' burning sides.

Maybe a squeeze of lemon in the water
failing a B vitamin effervescent.

Ah! Fill up the tot glass anyway,
And drink to all the birthdays spent.
