Kent gave him am empty smile which he always wore on his face but it never reached his eyes and then started walking past him.

When he entered the huge reception, other members of the office greeted him while Ms. Stacy Waltz came rushing into the hall from a lift balancing all the papers and her tablet in her hands.

His eyes fell on her and just the usual thought popped in his head, ‘ What a lame girl to be called his personal assisstent. What does she think? Wearing a pencil suit and having a MBA degree gives her the rights to talk to him?’

He turned around to his senior staff wearing his familiar fake smile,” Gentlemen, I am really touched by your welcome. But I’d rather be pleased if you all get your asses to your assigned cabins and do what you are paid for instead of wagging your tails in front of me.” He continuously smiled while his eyes registered everyone’s expression turning into a grim one as the crowd scattered off accept Mr. Miller. His old fading eyes glared at Kent’s direction but Kent ignored him and was about to leave but the oldie restraint him putting a hand on his shoulder.

Urgh! This old fagbag! I just have to bear with him until he takes his last breath on this earth. Grudgingly he turned around to face the man keeping a straight face.

“ What?”, Kent asked with a little edge in his voice as he raised his eyebrow at the old man.

Mr. Miller just sighed. He was used to these tantrums by Kent. He understood why Kent gives a cold shoulder to everyone, even those who genuinely care about him. Life hasn’t been easy on him and that’s what has turned Kent into an arrogant cold soul.

“ I have called all the directorials for a Board Meeting. Its going to be in half an hour. I thought you wouldn’t show up today so I’ll finalize everything myself. But seeing you are here, I’d like you to meet him yourself.”

Kent frowned at Gerard. He didn’t remember any scheduled meeting for today. And who the hell should he be meeting there? He didn’t recollect meeting any new recruits as well. He was pretty sure this meeting was not some official thing and Gerard took the liberty of calling it without taking a permission from him. He clenched his fists to control the anger rising in him. He never understood why his father trusted Gerard to the limits that this old man had so many rights over the Stevens.

Gerard knew Kent didn’t like the idea of being told the last about this meeting. But he also knew that he won’t ever agree to what Gerard was planning. But its for his own good. And that’s why Gerard won’t hear anything against this step, even from Kent himself.

“ Fine, I’ll come! Now leave me alone. Don’t you have any work other than plotting things behind my back?”, Kent snapped at him. That was the least he could do. He can’t fire him off from the company and he hated not being able to do that.

Without waiting for any other word coming from Gerard, Kent turned around and stormed off the hall towards the lifts. He heard some running footsteps behind him and knew his good-for-nothing assistant Stacy was tailing behind him. As the lift opened, he stepped in and pushed the button for the 7th floor where his personal office was.

He gritted his teeth to calm himself but it wasn’t working. This day is turning out to be a trash! Even worse than yesterday. And that’s when yesterday was the day he had that accident on the highway. He closed his eyes as the images from the scene came flashing into his mind. His heart beat automatically raised remembering it and it shook him with fear.

Instantly he opened his eyes in a flash to get out of the trauma. That was a past and he was all good. He tried to keeping it cool but noticed Stacy staring in his direction. He turned his greyish blue eyes towards her but she immediately dropped her eyes and found the floor of the lift much safer than looking directly into Kent Stevens’ eyes. But there was something she just had to ask.
