Not all of the people in Teyvat, or in Liyue rather, have heard of the tale of Meiying. Perhaps it was because none of them were interested in reading such a tragic story. Xiao was one of the few people who have taken the time to read the book, and unfortunately, he was disappointed. As a person who never felt the feeling of loving someone and being loved back, Xiao didn't understand why the main male lead in the story had protected his lover willingly until his life had ended.

What would the male gain from protecting the female? He had asked himself that. And the only answer that came to his mind was nothing. The male would gain nothing at all from protecting the female.  Except for his inevitable death, of course.

Was dying for the female worth it? It's not his duty to protect the woman, but he did. And he died in the end. Was it worth it? Or did he regret it just right before he died? All those questions of his remained unanswered. But Xiao shook them off, and remained unbothered. The people of Teyvat can do whatever they want.

The only thing they were not allowed to do was cause chaos in Liyue. It was Xiao's duty to protect the said nation. Did he love Liyue? Perhaps. Did he love the people in it? Definitely not. An adepti like Xiao shouldn't waste time over such trivial matters like love. The conquerer of demons as a lover? Never.

But sooner or later, he shall meet a mortal that will make him question all his beliefs. And maybe, just maybe, in the process of questioning everything, he might fall unknowingly. Then, he'll finally learn how to love and enjoy the sweet feeling of being loved back.
