Chapter 31: Without Shanna

Depuis le début

She never came. So in the end, the Heart Pirates had to head to the New World without her, hoping that she was already there.

Law didn't let anyone into her room. He knew just how much she hated it when people go into her room and touching her stuff. Shanna had a lot of delicate little trinkets in her room that she spent a lot of time building. Once Clione came in and accidentally broke one of the prototypes of her water skateboard engines, and she got so mad at him that she wouldn't talk to him for days. Law would personally clean her room every day, making sure none of her precious little inventions were catching dust.

She was the only one in the entire crew that had a bed. Everyone else slept in hammocks, Bepo slept on the ground, and Law only had a couch.

Law would train himself every day. He and Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo would do the drills Bridgette had taught over and over again to master the Haki she taught them. None of them were as natural as Shanna when it came to Haki. She always had a special talent at this, grasping it at the young age of nine. Law was definitely the most talented fighter amongst the four boys, but even he couldn't hold a candle to Shanna when it came to Haki.

When Law sat in his office at night, it felt unnaturally quiet, and empty. He didn't realize how much he missed having Shanna just sitting at the side of his desk, annoying him with all the little chit chat she could manage to bring up. He never knew why she was able to talk so much, considering there's literally nothing particularly interesting going on every day. But he knew Shanna isn't always like that.

She's not a naturally talkative person. When she's with Shachi and Penguin, she's often the one who follows the conversation rather than leads the conversation, unless she's talking about Law, of course. The only reason why Law thinks she's annoyingly talkative is because he doesn't talk, so she does her best to lead the conversation.

Law gently brushed his hand over the side of the desk, the place Shanna would normally lean her head on and fall asleep. He always kept that small area clear of books and files. However, even if he cleared the area for her, she was no longer there.

"Damn it...." He felt empty inside. If he knew living without her would be this painful he never would have hesitated. He should have just accepted it the moment he realized these sinful feelings. Heck they were pirates! They already have plenty of fingers pointed at them. Why did he even bother to care about something so trivial? The more he thought about it the more he wanted to laugh at himself. God he was such an idiot.

Ever since Shanna left it became difficult for Law to fall asleep. Only when he had stayed up for too long, he would finally sleep out of exhaustion. However, whenever he felt empty at night, he would go to her room, and lay on her bed. He found out it was so much easier to fall asleep on her bed. Whenever he was wrapped in her blanket, inhaling her faint scent that still remained on her pillow, it was as if they had gone back to their childhood, the days when they used to sleep together. Whenever he slept in her bed, he would dream of their childhood, the fun days they used to have.

When he woke up, and found that there was nobody by his side, it would always feel empty again.

...

"Everyone's all partied out," Shanna chuckled at the group of pirates laying on the ground sound asleep.

Law handed her a cup of hot milk. "Ready to go to bed?" he asked as he placed an arm around her. From the tips of his fingers he could feel the goosebumps on her arm. "Are you cold?"

"A little," Shanna whispered as she leaned her head on his shoulder and sipped the milk.

"Then let's go," he pulled her up from the ground. Nekomamushi prepared a house for the Heart Pirates earlier when Bepo and the others arrived. Most of the pirates were wasted at the bon fire in the middle of the forest, so the log house was quite empty. Jack, Clione, and Ikkaku were the only ones in the house, and there was one bed left for the two of them.

After washing up, Law and Shanna laid in bed together. Law pulled the covers over Shanna and wrapped his arms over her. Shanna rested her head on his shoulder and let out a soft and content hum. "Goodnight Law. I love you," she whispered. Law pressed his lips to her temple, breathing in her ocean scent, and a smile spread over his lips. He knew he would never have trouble sleeping again.

A/N (Please read): A little bit earlier than my usual update time, but oh well! Unfortunately, this will probably be the last chapter I'm posting this month because I have finals coming up and I reallly need to study hard for it! (If I fail I can't graduate) I'm so sorry and thank you all so much for following this story! I will come back in 2021, hopefully, and bring the FLUFF AND THE SMU- (cough, okay I need to calm down) But yeah, definitely have something to look forward to because from this point on I'm just going to be focusing on progressing Law and Shanna's relationship. (Also lowkey giving the manga some time to progress because you know we're kinda catching up lmao) (also earlier I told my other readers for my other fanfic that I was gonna ban myself from writing fanfic, but that was a lie, since I had to finish this chapter up to get the news to you guys too. Wouldn't wanna like....just disappear without telling you lovelies cuz that would be a dick move)
