The Land Inside the Wardrobe

Start from the beginning

"Don't worry, I'm sure it's just your imagination," Lucy said smugly. I ruffled her hair.

"I don't suppose saying we're sorry would quite cover it," Peter said, looking at Lucy.

"No, it wouldn't."

She then proceeded to throw a snowball in his face.

"But that might!"

Susan, Peter and I quickly gathered snow and threw it at Lucy. Susan threw a snowball at Edmund.

"Ow! Stop it!" He yelled. I reeled on him, remembering what he had said the night before.

"You freaking little liar!" I exclaimed.

"You didn't believe her either!" Edmund glowered.

"Apologise to Lucy!" Peter said, his voice raising.

"Say you're sorry!"

"All right! I'm sorry!" Edmund said begrudgingly.

"It's alright," Lucy said smiling.

"Some little children just don't know when to stop pretending."

"Oh, very funny," Edmund grumbled. I hugged Lucy.

"It actually is."

"Maybe we should go back now," Susan said.

"But shouldn't we at least take a look around?" Edmund asked.

"I think Luce should decide," Peter said. Lucy beamed.

"I'd like you all to meet Mr. Tumnus!"

"Well then, Mr. Tumnus it is!"

I winced, the pain in my back coming back.

"Logan, are you ok?" Susan asked worriedly, touching my back, gasping when she saw blood.

"We can't go hiking in the snow like this, especially Logan!"

"No, but I'm sure the professor wouldn't mind us using these." Peter replied, taking a bunch of coats from the wardrobe. He draped one around my shoulders, making sure I was warm.

"Anyway, if you think about it logically, we're not even taking them out of the wardrobe!" I said, handing one to Edmund.

"But that's a girls coat!" he protested.

"We know." Peter, Susan, and I said at the same time. Lucy grabbed my hand before Edmund could reply, but not before I identified a lamppost as a landmark, and started pulling us through the woods, but now before . She told us all about Mr. Tumnus, during the whole hike.

"And he had lots of wonderful food...."

I looked up to see why Lucy had trailed off and I saw a door off its hinges in the side of a giant ledge.

"Lu?" Susan asked.

Lucy gasped and ran forward.

"Lucy!" we all dashed after her. The inside of the house was completely destroyed. The furniture was upturned, cups smashed, shelves torn off the wall.

"Who would do something like this?" Lucy asked. I pulled down a piece of paper nailed onto the wall.

"The Former occupant of these premises,

the Faun Tumnus, is under arrest and

awaiting his trial on a charge of High

Treason against her imperial Majesty

Jadis, Queen of Narnia, Chatelaine of

Cair Paravel, Empress of the Lone Islands,

also to comforting her said Majesty's

enemies, harbouring spies and fraternizing

with Humans.

Signed Maugrim, captain

of the Secret Police,

Long live the

Queen."

I read from the paper, handing it to Susan.

"All right. Now we really should go back," Susan said.

"But what about Mr. Tumnus?" Lucy said, close to tears.

"If he was arrested just for being with a human, I don't think there's much we can do."

Lucy looked sadly at Susan.

"You don't understand, do you? I'm the human. She must have found out he helped me!"

"Maybe we could call the police," Peter suggested. I rolled my eyes.

"These are the police, dumbass," I muttered.

"Language!"

I knelt down next to Lucy.

"Don't worry Lu, we'll think of something."

"Why?"

We all turned toward Edmund.

"I mean, he's a criminal!"

Peter held me back while I struggled against him.

"Please let me hurt him, just a little bit?" I asked angrily.

"Psst!"

I looked out of the door and saw a red robin sitting on a branch.

Did that bird just 'pssst' us?" Susan asked.

"Fucking hell, this day is already crazy enough. Let's go outside," I said.

"LANGUAGE!"

We stood outside. The trees started swishing and we heard the same 'psst' over and over again. I grabbed Lucy and his behind Peter. Something was coming at us.

"Shit, if I die in a freakin wardrobe," I muttered. Peter didn't say anything. Then a beaver popped out from behind a rock.

"It... It's a beaver," Lucy said, confused. He started walking towards it.

"Here boy, here boy," Peter said, clicking his tongue and extending his hand.

"Well, I ain't gonna smell it, if that's what you want," the beaver said. I gasped while Lucy laughed.

"Sorry," Peter said, trailing off. The beaver turned to Lucy.

"Lucy Pevensie?"

Her jaw gaped and she stepped forward.

"Y-yes?"

The beaver handed her a handkerchief.

"Hey, that's the hankie I gave to Mr. Tum-"

"Tumnus," the beaver finished.

"He got it to me just before they took him."

"Is he alright?" Lucy asked. The beaver leaned forward.

"Further in," he whispered. And started hopping away. I turned to Susan.

"I think I'm gonna freaking faint."

"FOR GOODNESS SAKES LOGAN, LANGUAGE!"

"Shhhh!"
