Ch. 5- Dynasty

The memory of pain shoots through my mind and I flinch. Alastor immediately removes his hand. He goes to apologize but I cut him off.

"I need to think." I turn to leave my room. But a grip on my wrist stops me. I don't turn to look at Alastor for fear he'll see the tears threatening to fall.

"I'm sorry. Truly I am."

"I know Alastor." I blink back tears, I take a deep breath. "I just don't know if I can forgive you yet."

With that he drops my wrist and I exit my room, the moment I step into the hall I teleport to the woods. I don't have the heart to face the rest of them yet.

-time skip-

The woods are quiet, peaceful. I watch as two birds chase each other through the trees, only to settle in a nearby nest together. I look away quickly.

I hear rustling to my left. Turning, I see two deer, a buck and doe together. Tears sting my eyes. I pick up a rock and throw it towards them. They look up and run away.

"Some days
It's hard to see
If I was the fool
Or you the thief~"

I wipe away some tears but more fall.

"Made it through the maze
To find my one in a million~"

"But now you're just a page torn from the story I'm building~"

"And all I gave you is gone
Tumble like it was stone
Thought we built a dynasty that heaven couldn't shake
Thought we built a dynasty, like nothing ever made
Thought we built a dynasty forever couldn't break up~"

My shadow appears next to me as I mindlessly wander through the woods.

"The scar I can't reverse
When the more it heals, the worse it hurts
Gave you every piece of me
No wonder it's missin'~"

In my minds eye I watch Alastor walk away from me, leaving me all alone. My fear come to light.

"Don't know how to be so close to someone so distant~"

Lightning cracks across the sky, thunder rumbles as rain starts pouring down on me, but I could care less.

"And all I gave you is gone
Tumble like it was stone
Thought we built a dynasty that heaven couldn't shake
Thought we built a dynasty, like nothing ever made
Thought we built a dynasty forever couldn't break up~"

Flashes of memory play through my mind.

"It all fell down
It all fell down

It all fell down
It all fell down~"

My heart breaks and my knees give out as I fall to them. The trees around me tremble. Branches snap and leaves fall.

The howling storm rages and picks up around me.

"And all I gave you is gone

Thought we built a dynasty that heaven couldn't shake
Thought we built a dynasty, like nothing ever made
Thought we built a dynasty forever couldn't break up~"

Slowly I take some deep breaths trying to calm my heart.

"It all fell
It all fell down
It all fell down ehhh
It all fell down
It all fell down
It all fell down~"

Tears prick my eyes as I release another anguished cry.

"And all I gave you is gone~"

It all fell down

It all fell down

I take a deep breath and stand.

"Thought we built a dynasty forever couldn't break up~"

I will give him time to prove he is forgivable, I decide.

But my heart can't wait forever.

The storm dies down around me.

Steeling myself I turn back to the hotel to see my friends.

It was kind of hard to pick a good song for this scene, but I feel this one had that good emotional effect I was looking for.
