She was human after all. It was harder for humans to comprehend and acknowledge the pull of the mate bond. She probably couldn't see it for herself yet.

but she would...

I just had to give her time.

"Sucker!" Ava's voice boasted as she knocks me to my feet.

I couldn't help but chuckle as I got up from the floor. Ava Hester, the daughter of General Mason hester, has been a great childhood friend of mine for years. And still throughout our years of training together, I still couldn't stop falling for her overdone tactic.

"You only won this round because you did it again..." I muttered.

"Did what again, lil bro?"

I couldn't help but smile at her. Though she wasn't my biological sister, more of a God sibling, she surly felt like one. Our parents were so close, I grew up believing she was my older cousin. My brother Legion and I were not too close growing up and it was Ava who made me feel less alone.

She used to tell me these elaborate stories about how life was before the fall of the union. I was fascinated, though she was so young at the time, she was able to remember every consecutive detail.

"That move you always do where you pretend that I have hurt you only for me to check your condition and end up on the floor." I say.

"It's not my fault you keep falling for it." She teases.

"It's my fault for being such a chivalrous soul."

She lets out a snort. "And you know we all love that about you."

I grab my bottle of water before taking long generous sips. I could feel Ava join me taking a short sip of hers before I could feel her hazel doe eyes shooting at the side of my neck.

I turn to her with a raised eyebrow. "What?"

Her eyes brightened the more she stared at me and a smile began to tug at her her lips. "No..."

"No, what?" I asked her.

"Your eyes, they are more dilated than usual. Your muscles are more tense. You're growing territorial...but of what? of whom? My ladies man of a God brother, has found his mate!"

At that moment I was glad we were the only ones in the main training room because the last thing I wanted was the whole pack to know so prematurely.

"You're not denying it? You did!" She hollers once again.

"Ava, please. You know what a big deal this will be to the council and the pack. Once they find out, it won't be long until it enters the ears of the world." I explain to her.

She nods her head slowly. "I'm sorry. I'm just so happy for you. We can finally go on double dates at The Montage now." She comments causing me to fight a smile.

"It's more complicated than you think..." I told her causing her eyes to express her realization.

"Because of Legion's absence...I totally forgot." She says. "I won't disclose this information with anyone...not until you're ready at least."

It was almost nightfall and my guards had called for my presence in the main entrance of the pack house. I wonder what it could be this time? Lately many of the elders in the pack have feared for their security with the amount of attraction we get here by alleged feral wolves...they were alleged spottings of course and I doubt they are true due to the fact many feral wolves have been relocated to secure areas on the outskirts of civilization.
