Chapter 54

Bai Shen Hong
Emperor Huizhong
The Capital

The innkeeper knew there was someone important who would be visiting his place. A large pouch of silver was sent to him in advance to furnish the place and prepare a room.

Yuwen Hong was escorted in from the back, his security was already stationed in different places to ensure no soul got to him. He was led into the rented room by Eunuch Nam, who was in casual clothing instead of his uniform like his master.

The palace guards lined the hallway of the inn, attentive and sober for their job.

"Here, Your Majesty." Eunuch Nam parted the curtains for him to enter.

The room was a dimly lit dark room with themes of beige, gold, and white for His Majesty. Cushions and zabutons were strewn on the carpet with a small dining table in the middle room, food all over it, just like how he liked it.

"Shen Hong!" Ruo Xi shouted with a mouthful of food. "About time you came! I was going to finish all the food by myself."

Yuwen Hong laughed. "Then I as the emperor would punish you severely."

"You will never be the emperor in my eyes. Emperor my foot!"

Yu'er sat on the opposite side of her and picked a chicken drumstick for himself.

"I thought I would leave the city without seeing you. Aiyah, Shen Hong." She sat back and loosened her sash. Ruo Xi always did that when she planned to eat quite a lot.

"That would not happen. I may be very busy, but we are long time friends, and that would be a crime in your eyes."

"Damn right it would be!" She held up the soup bowl and drank it.

This had Yu'er smiling in amusement. "What bush were you living in that there was no food? You are embarrassing yourself. Look at you."

"Embarrassing? Look what has happened to you since taking over the throne. You are forgetting to appreciate food. I feel betrayed. I thought this was a shared passion." She shifted and sat with crossed legs rather than on her knees as a woman should. She was a man at heart indeed, nothing had changed. As always, the sword was next to her, a habit Yu'er forgot since becoming the emperor due to the privilege of always having Luo Meng and the palace guards.

"Don't worry, I still like food as much. But many things have changed, comes with the title."

"Hmm. I will never change. Born a wanderer and will die a wanderer."

Yu'er poured himself a cup of wine. "You are the most loyal student to our master."

"And the best woman student." She prided in that. Ruo Xi was taken in by their master at the same time as Yuwen Hong. They trained alongside the other students and only became familiar with each other when they were partnered due to their compatibility in mastery. Oren also called Yuwen Hong, the best man student.

"Talking on that subject, where is your master? Does he still remember that I am his disciple? How dare he forget me?"

Ruo Xi cackled. "You better remind him, otherwise you will soon be forgotten. He has found another favorite."

"Who?" No one could surpass his skills.

"It is a furian, someone they call, Lance."

Definitely a furian by the sound of the name.
