Chapter 3 - The First Night

Fuck?

I watched Luz saunter away, not even fazed about what had just happened. This stupid, crazy girl that I had just met had left me speechless and, without a doubt, at the mercy of Ed and Em.

"So Mittens," Em giggled. "Who exactly is that?"

"Her new gowlllllfwienddd!" Ed cackled, making kissy faces. I shoved him out of the way and slammed the door, rubbing my temples and sighing.

"She's just some girl that needed a place to stay, that's all." Sitting on my bed, I glared at my idiot siblings. "Her name is Luz. Kimberly said she was joining our rehab group and needed a place to stay, and then dumped her on me."

"So how long?" Em asked curiously, plopping down next to me. Ed went over to my beanbag chair and lazily flopped backwards onto it.

"Does it matter? All I know is that we've got a cutie staying the night, and I'm gonna make her mine." He waggled his eyebrows and smirked. "That is, if Mittens didn't already claim her."

I threw my pillow at him. "I don't like girls! I haven't even dated anyone before! I don't know where you two even get these ridiculous ideas!"

"Oh please, we saw how you were looking at her before we came in," Em countered, rolling her eyes. "You got all goo goo eyed and red as a tomato." She popped back up and clasped her hands together, a big smile on her face. "She's absolutely adorable, am I right Ed?"

"That you are," He replied with a big grin. "Anywho, we'll leave you to it. I've got some studying to do and Em still hasn't finished her college applications. Ironic since we both graduated high school at the same time and sent out our applications at the same time. Yet she still hasn't been accepted anywhere. I think I'm just the superior twin!" Ed widened his eyes and yelped as Em launched herself at him.

"TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW-" They tumbled out the door, slamming into something in the hallway. The sound each of them struggling to ping the other down traveling farther and farther until I couldn't hear them anymore. Luz walked back inside the room, closing the door behind her.

"So I'm gonna guess those two are somehow your siblings?" She sat down on the mattress and lazily looked up at me, leaning backwards on her arms.

"Yeah. Edric and Emira."

"So Ed and Em?"

"More like Stupid 1 and Stupid 2, but yes." Luz hmphed and gazed at my heavily postered walls. I shifted awkwardly, unsure of what to say. "Did you eat something yet?"

Luz slid her eyes toward me. "Are you asking me if I ate something between the time I was passed out, woke up, went to the bathroom, changed my clothes, and walked back here? If oxygen counts, yes."

Sighing, I stood up. "Well then I suppose I have to feed you. Come on." I led the way downstairs to the kitchen. Thankfully Edric didn't make anything for dinner tonight. It was every man for themselves. "What do you normally eat?"

"Nothing." She replied flatly. I let out a puff of annoyance. Pulling out some bread, ham, and cheese, I set to work making sandwiches.

"Seriously? That's it?" Luz rolled her eyes and poked her head into the fridge.

"This isn't some 5 star restaurant you know." I placed a sandwich on the table. "There."

"Mm. No." She continued to root around the fridge, the tip of her tongue sticking out of her mouth in concentration. Pulling out a tomato, lettuce, and other various things she set to work washing and cutting the vegetables. "Where are the knives?"
