Nature's Morning Routine

As I wait for the sun to rise,
I notice the subtleties of the morning.
The geese claim their spot on the lawn.
Do they notice too?

The crows land in their favorite tree,
Morning birds float above,
Early in the morning.

The sky is pink and blue,
Some stars still poking through,
The lake ripples behind me.

A leaf falls from tree to earth,
The loons sing their song.
Does their song cause the ripples?

Seagles now surround me,
Their wings flapping ferociously.
Am I sitting at their picnic table?
I give them their space.

Do the trees feel the difference in the air,
Now that it is almost autumn?
Is that how they know to drop their leaves?
Can they taste it like I do?

Alone in the morning,
But not really alone.
Nature's morning routine
Is keeping me company.

But now the sky is mostly blue
And I remember once more
That I am human.
And so, I share this with you.

If only I could tell you what the crow just said to the loon!
