The Story of Us

One

3 Years Later

I climbed into the back seat of Caleb’s old ford mustang convertible, throwing my cheerleading bag on the car floor.

“I can’t believe you had cheerleading practice on the first day of school!” Sky exclaimed, trying to stretch her long legs in the cramped back seat. “I know it ridiculous!” I replied pulling my long blonde hair out of my pony tail.

“Obviously we had practice because the freshmen team sucks.” Hallie Caleb’s girlfriend sneered. “But I’m sure your one of the best Amanda.” Caleb said, backing out of Sea Side High Schools parking lot. I refrained myself from sticking my tongue out at Hallie.

Hallie was a junior just like Caleb. She was only 5’2 with pretty red hair, but looking like a shrimp next to Caleb who’s a lean 6’1. She’s Co-Captain of the varsity cheer team, which is rare for a junior.

“So Sky, when does your ballet practice’s start?”Caleb asked changing the subject. Sky’s been dancing ever since she could walk. Her and Dance is like me and Cheerleading, it’s the one thing she cares about most.

Well for me Caleb’s also on that list.

“Most likely when we get closer to a recital.” She murmured, running her fingers through her sleek black hair. Whenever Sky stepped one a stage she rocked it. She has the complete ballerina look, being 5’10 and all. She has this way of owning her height, and always looking graceful.

Caleb pulled up to Hallie’s house, putting his mustang in park. “Walk me to the door, Babe?” Hallie said in a husky voice. “Sure hun.” He replied running to the passenger side door to open it up for her. Caleb has always been such a gentlemen.

I watched then as they stood in front of Hallie’s front door, swapping spit, and kissing in way that should be reserved for a bedroom. I tried my best not to gag.

“How disgusting.” I mumbled. Sky rolled down her window and yelled “Get a room!” Hallie and Caleb quickly broke apart. Caleb turned towards the car and gave Sky a play full middle finger.

“Someone want to get in the front?” Caleb asked as he climbed into the front seat. “Me!” I chimed, quickly rushing to the passenger seat, getting an eyes roll from Sky.

Caleb hit a button, making the convertible hood go down, and speed off heading to our houses.

“You want to chill in my beach back yard?” Sky asked as Caleb pulled into the driveway. Beach Back Yard is what me and Sky call our backyards, because well…there our back yards..And a beach!

“You know it!” I replied “I’m going to go home and get ready, but I’ll meet you down there.” I added.

I skipped up the stairs of my house, and tossed all my junk on my bed as I got into my room. I stripped out of my cheer practice uniform, and grab my black bikini out of my dresser. I then grabbed my jumbo sized sun screen bottle and sprayed it on every inch of my body, and then tossed it into my blue striped beach bag, along with my beach towel. I ran a brush through my hair, neating myself up, and grab a pair of sun glasses. I scavenged around my room for a matching pair of flip flops and finally found some blue ones. I grabbed my brand new IPhone 5, tossed it into my beach bag, and headed down to Sky’s beach back yard.

“I’ve been waiting for you!” Sky exclaimed as I walked up, patting a lounge chair next to her. “Yeah, yeah, yeah.” I replied. “Better late than never.” Caleb said walking up behind me making me jump. The ocean water glistened on his body, while his hair stuck to his face.

I sat down in the lounge chair. Luckily my sunglasses were hiding the fact that I was admiring Caleb’s rock hard abs’s.

“You’ve grown up quite a bit since 6th grade, Amanda.” Caleb added his eyes running up and down my body. I felt myself turn red from my head to my toes.

“Oh just go play ball with Trevor!” Sky said, motioning to their germen shepherd, who was prancing around in the water.

“God my brother is such a dick!” Sky moans as soon as Caleb is out of hearing distance.

“He just gave me a compliant, Sky. It’s no big deal.” I pointed out. “I know but, even though he doesn’t know you’re like in love with him, he still plays you like a violin!” Sky ranted.

I bit my lip, knowing everything she said was true. “He’s been doing this since the day we meet! Actually no, he does this to every girl he meet! No offence Amanda, but sometimes I wish you would just get over my stupid brother.” Sky boomed.

I looked at her through my sun glasses. “I’m sorry Amanda, I went a little over board.” She whispered. “No it’s okay. I mean you have a point.” I replied. But how was I supposed to get over someone I’ve been in love with for like the past 3 years of my life?

Right as I thought that, my IPhone chimed in my bag. I turned to my bag, scooping it out, and unlocking it slowly. “Who is it?”

Sky asked peering over my shoulder, trying to see the screen.

“Max Saxton. He wants to know if I want to go out on a date this Saturday.” I said, smiling.

“Well, are you going to say yes?” Sky asked. “Yeah I think so.” I replied typing in my response to Max.

Maybe it is time for me to get over Caleb Saunders.
