The Story of Us

Seven

I laid in my stiff emergency room bed, staring at my new pink cast. I wouldn’t be able to cheer for six whole weeks. Football season would be over completely by then, and we would already be full into basketball.

I leaned my head back against the hospital’s flatten pillows. I closed my eyes, listening to the doctor tell my mom how the pain killer she prescribed me would work.

The door burst open, and Dylan was soon by my side, followed by Caleb, Sky, Mr. and Mrs. Saunders and my father.

“Amanda I am so sorry.” Dylan said frowning. “I tried to catch you I swear.” He added throwing his hand up in the air defensively.

“Its okay Dylan, I’m sure you did. Anyways I’ll be able to cheer again in six weeks.” I replied faking a smiling.

“Six weeks without cheer? That sound like complete0hell!”He exclaimed.

Caleb slightly pushed Dylan aside, and held out a boutique of flowers. “We won 57 to 47” Caleb told me with a cheeky grin.

“Where’s Max?” I asked trying not bring down the mood. “His mom wouldn’t let him come, but he said he’ll see you tomorrow at homecoming dance.” Sky replied stepping forward.

“Like I’m going to the homecoming dance in crutches.” I scoffed rolling my eyes.

“But you promised you and max would double date with me and Nate.” Sky whined, frowning.

“Amanda’s not going to the homecoming dance. Her leg is still going to be sore by tomorrow night.” My mom intruded.

“It’s settled.” I said ending the conversation.

Not fast enough I was released from the hospital. When we arrived home, Caleb had to carry me up the stair bridal style to my room. I held on for dear life.

He laid me in my bed, and then sat down next to me.

“I was thinking, if you want, when you leg feels better, we could hold a mini homecoming dance in my living room. We could all dress up, decorate the place, and invite people. I think it would be fun, since you don’t get to go tomorrow.”Caleb told me smiling.

I felt a smile grow on my face also. “I would like that.” I replied. “Well goodnight.” Caleb said pulling me into a hug, and then exciting the room.

I was exhausted. Right as I felt myself drifting off to sleep my phone buzzed on my night stand.

          One New Message: Max

Max: Hi babe(: Hope you’re feeling alright. I wanted to go see you but my mom said no:(

Amanda: Sky told me(: Its cool. I’m not going to the homecoming dance:( hope you not mad:/

Max: It’s alright. But I still have to go. All football players’ even freshmen are required to go. I’ll be no fun without you:(

Amanda: Try to have fun(: I’m going to sleep xoxo

          Max: Goodnight beautiful.
