Chapter 23: Snot Nosed Princess

"CORA-SAN!!!" she sobbed as she threw herself in Law's embrace. He didn't wear a shirt, but her tears soaked through his bandages. "CURSE YOU DOFLAMINGO! I should have punched you when I had the chance!"

"Geez, we already beat him up Shanna, you don't have to cry like that," Zoro said with a funny smirk on his face. Law patted her on the back awkwardly as she continued to cry for Corazon's sacrifice. Zoro and Robin flashed him a suggestive smirk, but Law just averted his eyes from them. Zoro then pushed himself up from the couch. "Well, story's over. It's time I go to bed."

"I think I'm going to get some rest as well," Robin agreed. Law knew they were purposely giving him and Shanna some lone time together, and he wasn't about to complain. He continued to pat Shanna as she continued to cry on him. Robin and Zoro already left, and the Barto Club were too obsessed with Luffy to join them on the deck, so it was just Law and Shanna. 

Shanna slowly stopped crying, her sobs turning into soft sniffles without tears. "Roronoa-ya is right. There's nothing to cry about," Law said. "You already knew about the Amber Lead Disease when we first met."

Shanna felt her eyes begin to water again as she started remembering the first few days Law came to her house.

Shanna watched Bridgette rush in and out of the bedroom, bringing in towels and melted snow. "Hang in there Law!" Bridgette shouted.

"I can't! I don't know how to use it! What do I do Bridgette-san?! How do I use this power?" Shanna heard Law cry. Bridgette told her not to go inside, so she didn't know what was going on. The white patches on his skin have gotten much worse, and he looks like he's in a lot of pain. Tears started to sting her eyes when she felt the pain in Law's voice.

"Law!!! Hang in there!!! Don't give up!" Shanna shouted from out the bedroom door in the midst of sobs. She sat down on the ground and started crying into her fingers. "Don't die Law!!! Please don't die!!! Waaahhhhhh!!! "

After a while, Bridgette walked out of the room and picked Shanna up from the ground. Shanna wrapped her arms around her mother's neck, sobbing uncontrollably. Bridgette patted Shanna on the back. "He'll be okay now. Law will be okay. He did it."

Shanna's sobbing paused, turning into sniffles. "He will?"

"Mmhm. It's thanks to you Shanna! You cheered him on. You did good," Bridgette smiled, placed her hand behind Shanna's head comforting the young redhead.

"Continuation on the story. I was picked up by a beautiful family of a mother and daughter. During the time I was trying to figure out my devil fruit powers, my disease kept getting worse, and I was nearing death. At my most painful night I thought about giving up. I thought about following Cora-san to the other side. But the crying of a little girl snapped me out. She told me to hang in there, and not to give up. She begged me not to die. And under her encouragement I figured out the key to my devil fruit powers. And I lived..." Law smiled gently at Shanna, placing a hand on her head. Shanna sniffed. The black haired male chuckled as he wiped away the snot dripping from her nose with his sleeve, not caring about dirty that was.

Law cupped her face with his hands, and stared into her puffy red eyes lovingly. Quit treating her like a child and see her as the woman she is! Jack's words echoed in his head. How can he not see her as a child? Especially when she's so cute. She's been the cutest kid he's ever seen ever since he first met her. Even now, memories of her little figure, those stubby little legs and arms flailing around as she chased him from behind, keep reappearing in his head. And then gradually those little stubs grew longer, the child no longer a child, but a woman. But there's no way Law can see her as just the woman she is. She's a child in his eyes, the child he's loved and cared for, as well as a teenager, the awkward teenager he watched go through puberty, as well as a woman, the one who stood beside him, protected him, guarded his crew. He was in love with Shanna, all of her.
