MAY-15TH

"Run! Baby run!!".

Those words kept echoing in my head as I rushed out of my house towards the woods.

It was mid afternoon and the sun was scorching hot, burning my neck as I ran as much as my scrawny legs could take me.

I had gotten to the cottage in the woods, a weak looking building. Despite my present situation, I still looked at the building with scorn but I was grateful for the house and the ugly holes it had.

"You aren't running fast enough rabbit!". I heard those words as I dashed through the door into the house, looking for a place to hide.

I used to come here to find peace or to play on my own but this wasn't a time for painful nostalgia.

I quickly looked for the good old broom closet by the kitchen door and squeezed myself in,just as my assailant burst through the squeaky front door.

"B-a-b-y!!!",he screamed and he started walking through the weak house.

Honestly, I thought the poor house would collapse anytime soon from his loud and heavy footsteps or if he yelled like that one more time.

I covered my mouth with trembling hands in case it betrayed me and I whimpered or let out a sound.

My assailant kept on walking and kicking things as he went up and down the house. Screaming cuss words in his attempt to find me, he threw and upturned things that were in his way probably picturing each item and me.

Thanks to the little hole at the corner of the broom closet I enclosed myself in, I was able to see the numerous scorch marks on my fingers and the top of my arms.

I let my eyes release the tears it had been holding since the beginning of this dreadful episode and suddenly realized something.

Quiet...

The house was eerily quiet,my assailant was silent on the other end. I released my mouth and leaned forward to place my ears against the closet door...hoping my ears hadn't grown deaf in the broom closet I hid in.

I waited a bit longer hoping my thumping heart would slow down and stop pounding in my ears while I made sure the silence was real.

It was real,he was gone!. I felt relief wash over me and leaned back to breathe out a Shaky breath, my breath hitched in my throat.

The hole at the corner of the broom closet held an eye.
An eye I'd describe later as evil and full of malice and it was staring right at me.

Somehow I knew before I heard his voice that my end had come...just as he said in a scratchy whisper

"checkmate baby!".
