“Okay,” Yun na lang ang nasabi ko.
“But I haven’t asked you yet, what do you want in a woman?” She wiggled her eyebrows. I fought the urge to answer with a three-letter word: her.
Because for some reason, pinangungunahan ako ng takot. I don’t know what I really feel about her, pero may pakiramdam na ako kung ano yun. And it’s scaring the hell out of me. Sure enough, I have moved on from Monique and Natalia but the pain is still there and I don’t want to feel that pain again.
There’s some part of me who wanted to answer her with the most honest answer I could give but I might scare her away. Pareho lang naman kami, we don’t want to commit―or at least not now because we’re not yet ready.
Napabuntong hininga ako. How can a girl amaze you and scare you at the same time?
Sana nga madali na lang sumaya. Na kapag may mahal ka, sabihin mo lang iyon sa kanya ay pwede ka nang lumigaya. But that’s not how it worked for me. Dalawang beses nang pinamukha sakin ng mundo na wala pa akong karapatang sumaya. In the end, I would always be the one hurting.
Parang ayoko na uli ng ganoon.
Eleanor have given me a sense of hope that I might be happy again but should I settle for that hope? I needed some assurance. I needed something sure.
“That’s a difficult question.” I answered. Napanguso naman siya, “Ano ba naman yan. Kahit yung job man lang? Doctor or Engineer. Yung ganoon.”
My lips twitched into a smile. If I can’t answer in an honest way then maybe I can answer vaguely, “I want a Lawyer or maybe someone who’s currently studying in a Law School.”
Tiningnan ako ni Eleanor bago bawiin yung folder. “Ganun ba? In this list, there are at least 10 Lawyers and future Lawyers here. Ano pang gusto mo?”
“Nagka-boyfriend na siya.”
“Wow ha. Napaka-ironic naman niyang gusto mo. I thought guys prefer girls who never had a boyfriend. Diba, guys wanna be a girl’s first love.” She muttered habang nilalagyan ng mark yung sampung babae.
“Not for me,” I smirked.
“Okay, nine na lang sila dahil NBSB yung isa.”
“How did you get all that?” I asked, out of curiosity, pertaining to the list of girl she has. Don’t tell me nagpa-run pa siya ng investigation para sa listahan ng lahat yan. She’s not that commited when it comes to work.
“They’re my friends.” She grinned as if proud of her job. Napaismid na lang ako. Nakalimutan ko nga palang siya si Miss Friendly.
Right, Miss Friendly.
“I want a friendly woman, yung kilala lahat ng nasa listahan na yan.” Sabi ko. Napanganga naman si Eleanor bago tingnan yung listahan niya.
