Blindness is Key: Part 9 (Bakugo)

Start from the beginning

"I don't think he's dealing with you." Mr. Aizawa said. "I think it's more, working with you."

"Well, however you want to see it." I told him. "Doesn't change the fact that I'm still blind, and under his care."

"He's a good student." He said and I nodded in agreement.

"Yes, but that doesn't mean I'm not a bother." I said. "I don't like when people take care of me."

"Why?" He questioned.

"Well I've always taken care of myself." I said. "My mom died when I was young, and my Dad didn't care much for me. Schools haven't cared either."

"Are you not comfortable in his care?" He asked, and I couldn't help but laugh. "I could always have someone else look after you." Mr. Aizawa offered and I picked my head up. I couldn't help but think about it.

"Don't even think about saying yes." Someone said and I jumped in my seat. Bakugo had been sitting on the couch with Aizawa.

"Bakugo?" I asked and set my feet on the floor.

"You're staying in my care whether you like it or not." He said. He was really aggravated.

"This isn't supposed to be a challenge." I said.

"None of this is a challenge, or a game." He told me. I stood up and walked away from the couch.

"Why are you getting so emotional over this?" I asked.

"I'm not." He argued and he followed me.

"Really?" I laughed.

"Would you wait a second?" He asked.

"Why?" I asked him right back.

"Because I've got something to say to you." He said and grabbed my wrist and made me stop before I got to the stairs. "You keep calling yourself a burden or useless. But you didn't see yourself today."

"I didn't see anything today." I said.

"You saved everyone on that highway today." Bakugo kept going. "You literally held a bridge together with your bare hands. You're incredibly strong and-."

"Stop." I interrupted him. "Don't think that you know me. I've been here two days. Just because I've opened myself up to you and tell you parts of my life that I want nothing to do with anymore, or that you've seen me when I'm vulnerable, does not mean you know me."

I ripped my arm away from him and raced up the steps. But in my hurry to get away from Bakugo, I tripped again.

"God damn it." I sighed and sat down on the step. I ran my hands through my hair and Bakugo sat next to me.

"I'm not trying to act like I know you." He said to me, he was quieter now. Gentler. "I'm here to help you when you need it."

"Why?" I asked him. "I don't need help. I can take care of myself, I've done it for the last ten years of my life."

"Really?" He questioned and he poked my knee that I scratched up earlier.

"I didn't say I did it well." I admitted.

"Let me take care of you." He said and tried picking me off the step, but I pulled away from him. He sighed and I heard him move. But I couldn't see where he went.

Suddenly his hands were on mine and he pulled my hands forward. He pressed my hands to his face, and he was kneeling in front of me. I felt his face and used my fingers to map him out. He hadn't let me feel his face before.

I closed my eyes and guided my thumbs over his closed eyes, before I felt down his nose. My fingers glided across his lips and down his jaw.

"Better?" He asked and held my hands. I nodded and I couldn't help but cry.

"I didn't know blind people could cry." He said and I laughed. His hands were on my face and wiped my tears off my cheeks.

"I'm supposed to be the one that makes the jokes." I said. And this time, I let him pick me off the steps and helped me up the rest of the stairs.

"Come on idiot." He said and dragged me to his and Kiri's room.

"Bakugo I can sleep in my own room." I said and he shoved me onto his bed.

"If you could, you wouldn't have gone down stairs." He told me and wrapped an arm around my waist. I turned towards him and hugged him.

"Bakugo?" I asked and buried my face in his chest.

"Yeah?" He asked quietly.

"Thank you." I told him and I felt like I could finally sleep.
