HAZEL'S POV

Breakfast was amazing.

I felt completely full.

I took a napkin and wiped away any leftover food particles from my mouth.

I glanced at the clock on the wall to my left and saw that it was a quarter to nine.

"Shit," I muttered under my breath. Gabz would be here any minute.

Aunty made a loud gasp at my minor slip up.

I braced myself and waited for round two of her scolding, but to my surprise, it never came. She just lifted her head to the heavens with a hand over her chest and pleaded, "Lord, please help this girl," she shook her head in defeat.

However, uncle wasn't too quick to forgive. "Hazel, you will not use those kinds of foul language in my presence!" He declared, raising an eyebrow at me.

I wanted to avoid any controversy at all costs, so I quickly apologised before I excused myself from the table.

Thanks to my brief outburst I had less than fifteen minutes to get ready before Gabz showed up.

I literally bolted upstairs to my bathroom. I took what I believed was the quickest shower in history.

I was out after only three minutes.

I reapplied some concealer under my eyes and then got dressed in the same white tank top and knee-length floral skirt from earlier.

I checked the time, it was two minutes to nine. I took a deep breath, then laid on my bed and waited for my crazy friend to arrive.

The bed was so comfortable, sleep called out to me.

Stay awake, Haze, I coaxed myself.

My eyelids were so heavy.

I'm just going to close them for five minutes, I yawned.

Who the hell was I kidding, closing my eyes felt wonderful, I felt my body becoming lighter as wonderful sleep consumed me.

I woke up shivering in bed. I heard the rain dancing on the windowsill.

I saw nothing on the weather updates about getting rain today, I pondered to myself.

With my eyes still closed, I snuggled closer to my pillow and pulled the blanket over my body.

Gabz must be running late. She hated going outside in the rain.

I wanted to go and check my phone to see if she texted, but that thought quickly left my mind the more I sank into the comfort of the bed.

"Ooh, this blanket is so silky," I purred as the rain pitter-pattered louder against the windowsill.

Something about it raining while I was snuggled in the warmth of my bed brought a simple yet extraordinary satisfaction to my entire body.

A gush of wind hit the back of my neck, it caused goose pimples to formulate all over my body.

"Why did I leave the window open?" I whined.

Oh yeah, that damn weather lady expressed it was going to be a sunny and cool day. What a bitch, I snickered to myself.

That's one reason I did not trust weather reports anymore.

I remembered last year the weather lady declared it was going to be a sunny and beautiful fourth of July weekend, so my aunt decided that we should go to White Sands beach, which was like an hour away.
