Dawn

The day was over finally and I felt all my energy leaking out. Listening to each and every teacher talk about the finals was like drilling a hole through my brain repeatedly in the same spot.

The highlight of the second half of the day was definitely English. It is safe to admit that I almost suffered from braincell loss when my English teacher said, "Just reminding y'all that the last day of submitting your portfolios is day after tomorrow."

Why couldn't she remind us maybe one or two weeks ago? Not that I would have started working on it at once but it would have helped in some or the other way. To add on to my misery, the only seat empty in English class was the one in the front and did I mention that how much I detested sitting in the front? I could atleast move a little if I was sitting at the back like drumming my fingers on the desk, moving my legs while softly singing to myself, stretching occasionally and what not but unfortunately my restless body longed to perform a set of somersaults once the class and the day ended.

"What's wrong, Dawn?" Hunter asked showing concern as we walked towards his car, "Seems like the clouds have covered the sun inside of you again."

I let out a dramatic sigh and kicked as high as I could to loosen up my tensed muscles, nearly kicking Hunter in the face. He didn't flinch for some reason and just laughed. This is why I really admired Hunter. He had always been a peacemaker and kept looking for things that could make him or others laugh. Although he often said that supporting his almost broken family by doing multiple jobs wasn't a really hard task for him but the truth was always visible in his eyes. He seemed fed up but he would never dare to admit it.

"It's just the finals week stress and the body cramps I suffered from in English. Anyway, how is your mom doing now?" I asked while leaning completely on his shoulder for support. The parking spot suddenly seemed miles away.

"Oh she doesn't drink anymore only because she still keeps looking for the bottles only to fail to find them. My brother and I have found the best hiding spot," His jaw tightened at first but then he immediately relaxed and chuckled lightly. I felt my heart shrink. "By the way, Vic has ditched us as she has to meet her group members to finish their project. Seems like we will have to postpone our group study session."

I nodded and mentally made notes of my to-do list. It was going to be a long couple of weeks.

Soon, I was home and I immediately rushed inside after thanking Hunter for dropping me. My planner was open in my mind and I wasted no time to complete my first task on the to-do list: Showering. In fact, there was no time to waste time as well because there was no way I would be able to completely assemble my portfolio by day after tomorrow if I didn't start today. Next thing on my list was eating so I grabbed some instant noodles and immediately got to work in my pink PJs. I was 30% actually working on it and 70% praying that I complete it. I am shameless.

"My apologies, my lady. I had to go home for an emergency but it's all good now that I am back." Theo spoke loudly out of nowhere and I started looking for the imaginary megaphone he was using because I bet he never dared to speak so loudly.

I excitedly beckoned him to come closer but suddenly the law and order of my mind was disrupted, "Glad you are here! I need help with this portfolio. The theme is....ugh what the fuck is the theme again?! Where-"

"Calm down, sunshine! Take deep breaths." Theo stumbled backwards and gesticulated wildy in horror only to quickly retreat and pose with pacified expression, "Okay so now do as I say. It's an excercise you should practice to mollify yourself."

Theo could change his conduct or expressions with just a blink of an eye and that had started to scare me. Does he play with his mind and heart the way he does with my mind? Or was he just faking it extremely well to deceive others for his sake?
