Gone are the days of Summer

It was the first of May,

The cool air keeping the summer at bay,

Where the laughter of children played a soft melody,

And the sweet smells of flowers filled the air.

I met you in the midst of it all,

Our youthful demeanors not daring to fall,

Throughout the summer days did we play,

You along with me, and I along with you.

Of course, however, it had to end,

For autumn was just around the bend,

The cold air chased away the sun,

And you retreated with our youth.

Winter gave way to Spring,

And slowly warmth the sun did bring,

But the sun never brought you back,

Like I hoped in the ebbing days of summer.

It was the first day of May,

The cool air keeping the summer at bay,

Where echoes of children's laughter

Played slowly in my mind.

I met the place where we burst with smiles,

And worries flew away by the miles,

Throughout the summer days we no longer play,

I along with me, and me along with I.
