chapter nine —— occasional comfort

WHEN JUDE TOLD AARON HOTCHNER THAT ONE TIME one time a week and two days ago, that she was and quote 'fucking great with people', she was lying through her white stained teeth (because who can get their teeth that pearly without a little bit of help?). Jude herself was a horrible people person, and her conversational skills were even worse.

On the occasion that she could be bothered to create a whole persona for herself (rather than just saying she went to northwestern), Jude could say that she was fun, that she was interesting, that she was genuinely someone that you would want to have a conversation with - but that was Jude with no last name. Jude Levy was the sad, depressed, socially stressed woman who used self-depreciation and untimely jokes as a way of dealing with things.

When Jude had told Hotchner (he had told her a week into the job to call him Hotch) that she would try to acclimatise herself to the team, she did not think it would mean going on coffee runs with Penelope Garcia before work started at seven, or that she would be agreeing with the hot doc that the only way to drink said coffee is with at least four teaspoons of sugar.

Now Jude had in no way shape or form been accepted into the team - she wouldn't allow herself to be accepted, not when she knew that sooner than later Atlas would be calling saying that she was needed because something had gone horribly wrong (or Odessa had been shot), and Jude would pack up hers and Masons life within a moments notice and they would be gone without a trace.
