So, I feel like a lot of my research will not make sense to some people. Hence why this section exists.
To mention first, I used the assigned Akuma/Demon roles that the brothers were given through the tower defense game Hesokuri Wars ~Battle of the NEETs~:
Osomatsu - Satan
Karamatsu - Beelzebub
Choromatsu - Belphegor
Ichimatsu - Leviathan
Jyushimatsu - Mammon
Todomatsu - Asmodeus
I recognized the names after a quick Google search that the staff of Hesokuri Wars were using either The Lanterne of Light's classification of demons or Binsfield's classification (both are based on the seven deadly sins, with The Lanterne of Light's anonymous publication being dated earlier in 1409 -1410, while Binsfield's publication was in 1589).
Layman's terms? These were the new roles I labeled for the brothers:
Osomatsu - Satan (Wrath)
Karamatsu - Beelzebub (Gluttony)
Choromatsu - Belphegor (Sloth)
Ichimatsu - Leviathan (Envy)
Jyushimatsu - Mammon (Greed)
Todomatsu - Asmodeus (Lust)
Now with a classification to go by, I assigned each brother their counterpart, the seven contrary virtues:
Osomatsu - Patience
Karamatsu - Abstinence
Choromatsu - Diligence
Ichimatsu - Kindness
Jyushimatsu - Liberality
Todomatsu - Chastity
This didn't make sense to me (since I already had my ending fights already paired up before I started), so I tweaked it further to knock some roles out of the lineup. I wanted to keep the determined positions the same, so I switched some aspects around and that left me with this new list:
Osomatsu - Satan (Wrath)
Karamatsu - Diligence [I've never really seen any of the brothers work as hard as him to be liked, despite being timid]
Choromatsu - Belphegor (Sloth)
Ichimatsu - Chastity [I took this to be defined as 'the ability to refrain from being distracted and influenced by hostility, temptation or corruption', since the true definition of the word describes what our beloved NEETs struggle with...]
Jyushimatsu - Patience [He hasn't gotten really mad often in the show]
Todomatsu - Asmodeus (Lust)
With these new roles, I had to find the angel counterparts for my non-demon boys (aka, something for tension). A harder Google search brought me what I needed, and the final role list turned into the following:
Osomatsu - Satan (Wrath)
Karamatsu - Gabriel (Diligence)
Choromatsu - Belphegor (Sloth)
Ichimatsu - Uriel (Chastity)
Jyushimatsu - Azrael (Patience)
Todomatsu - Asmodeus (Lust)
Now that you know the 'behind-the-scenes' research, you should be able to think back on each fight between the brothers to see their virtues/vices reflect their fighting style and how they responded to their enemy. Reread the story if you'd like, and enjoy the small details that are threaded throughout.
