Ashton

Three months earlier...

"Good morning Ashton!" My best friend and assistant greets me.

"Hey Shaniece!" I reply.

I make my way to my office and start to prepare for the busy day I have ahead of me. I am an event planner. I do everything from weddings to birthday parties. It was always my dream to do parties. I'm a party girl. I love to have a good time and when I plan events, I want to see my clients having a good time.

I have a couple of consultations scheduled for today and I need to be prepared. I start to organize my desk.

Shaniece crashes through my door.

"Girl I hope you are on your A-game today. You know we got Marcus Perry fine ass coming in here today." Shaniece gushed. I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, with his fiancé." I dryly respond.

Ok, yeah Marcus Perry is very attractive. He's a handsome dark chocolate brother. But I'm not here for it. The man is engaged and he's coming in here with his fiancé so I can plan their engagement party and possibly the wedding if they love my works. Which I know they will.

Besides, even if he was single I probably wouldn't be his type. He's into the glamour girl. You know the slim build and full face of makeup type. And that definitely isn't me. I know of your natural, minimum makeup, dress how I feel type of woman.

"So what? He's still fine. I can look and not touch. But if I was given the chance I would hop right on that chocolate ride. And I know you would too." She pointed out, jumping around like she was riding a horse. I crack up at her.

This girl is silly. Can't take her nowhere.

"Girl, relax. And he alright. He ain't all that." I say. She stopped her galloping, whipping her head towards me. She had a shocked expression on her face.

"Now I know you lying. Stop playing. You know what's up. You probably had a couple of wet dreams about his muscular six foot plus ass."

I ain't gonna lie. I have had a day dream about him a time or two. The man is gorgeous. Six foot five inches of pure muscle. And he had a beautiful smile. A beautiful smile is my weakness.

"Ok, he is fine. But I can't look at him like that. That's not what I'm here for. And I say again, he is getting married. And he's about to be a client. So chill out. And go back to your desk."

"Ok Ms. Ashton. I'll leave you alone." She turned to leave. "For now." She said over her shoulder. She walked back to her desk laughing.

I just shook my head and start flipping through my portfolio for my first client of the day which was a baby shower. And for the rest of the day things went smoothly until Marcus Perry arrived with his fiancé.

Shaniece politely escorted them into my office. I looked up to greet them. And boy, was I stuck. The man was even better looking in person. It took my breath away. Smooth chocolate skin. Deep brown eyes that could read your soul. Tall muscular build all wrapped in an expensive Armani suit that looked like it was made for his body. Which I'm pretty sure it was since he could afford it. He oozed confidence and power. I almost whimpered. He had me squeezing my thighs together just off the sight of him.

"H-Hi. I'm Ashton Brown. Welcome to Ashton Expressions." I extended my hand to shake his fiancé's hand.

"Hi Ashton. Thank you for having us. You come extremely recommended. I'm Shayla Colby. And this is Marcus Perry." Shayla introduced. I turned to Marcus to shake his hand. His touch sent a shiver through my body. I locked eyes with him. I knew he felt what I felt. The electric current buzzing through your touch. I snatched my hand back. And told them to have a seat.

I jumped right into the meeting. I showed them my package and what was included. We went over details and things that they liked. Shayla did most of the talking. She seemed very excited. While on the other hand, Marcus was very serious. He nodded and grunted in agreement when needed. But for the most part he just stared at me, as if he was trying to read me. It was very unnerving. I was fidgeting in my seat. I couldn't figure out why he was so focused on me.

I focused my attention to Shayla. She was so nice and bubbly. She was a beautiful girl. You know, his type. I couldn't help but to compare myself to her. She had beautiful caramel skin. Where I was a milk chocolate. She was tall, about five foot eight. Where I was five foot three. She had a slim model build. Where I was thick and curvy. Her hair laid with a long wavy lace front install. And here I am rocking my natural curls. I just felt like I couldn't compete with her. She was everything society was ok with. She was that it girl. I could see why Marcus was with her.

Why am I even doing this to myself? I know who I am and I should embrace it.  And why am I worried about who Marcus is with? It's not like we would ever be together.

If only she knew where her life was heading.
