WAKING UP ON CHRISTMAS DAY, Cassiopeia Black couldn't help but feel saddened. She loved her brothers dearly, and was definitely happy she was able to spend this Christmas with Regulus. However, part of her - one that was pushed far, far down - couldn't help but feel jealous of all the students that got to go home and spend the holiday with their loving families.

Love was all Cassiopeia had ever wanted. And not even romantic love that one would get from a boyfriend or girlfriend. She just wanted to feel loved, but her friends and by her parents. The sad reality of it was that that would never happen. At least, now the latter. She was probably more likely to win the Muggle lottery (which she had heard from Olivia wasn't a very common occurrence) than hear an 'I love you' from either of her parents.

Trying not to dwell too much - and put herself in a foul mood so early in the morning - the black haired girl threw her duvet off and began to get ready for the day ahead. When she was placing her worn out boots on her feet, the sound of something pecking her window echoed through the quiet dormitory.

Glancing up she spotted a gorgeous brown owl standing there. Instantly she recognised who it belonged to and quickly let it inside. The owl flew happily around the room, flapping her wings wildly before landing right on Cass' bedside table. Luckily for the bird, Buddy was off somewhere hunting mice and couldn't try attacking the bird like he once did a few years prior.

The Slytherin managed to untie the letter from the bird without getting pecked, and as soon as the letter fell onto her bed, she gave the bird some food that she kept for her midnight snacks.

The owl munched on it happily as Cassiopeia tore the envelope, fishing out the letter and looking at the scrawly writing that covered the parchment. Her lips were suddenly tucked upwards as her piercing blue eyes scanned the words.

'Hi,

I just wanted to say thank you yet again. The potions worked wonders and the other night wasn't anywhere near as bad as it usually was, and that was all thanks to you, so thank you, I can't imagine how expensive and difficult it was to make.

I'm saddened to hear that you're spending Christmas at Hogwarts this year, I'm suppose to go over to the Potters tomorrow and really thought that I would see you, but I hope you're enjoying it nevertheless. I didn't sent you the present because I was worried that Dixie might accidentally drop it. Plus, I would definitely prefer to hand it to you in person, if that's okay?

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas (and New Year), Cass, and I can't wait to see you in a week and a half.

Yours,

RJL'

Her eyes stayed locked on 'yours' as her heart began to flutter in her chest. She felt her lips widening and she was certainly glad that she was the only one in her dorm because she most definitely looked like an idiot right there and then. There was a warm feeling that spread through her body as she re-read the letter before she sighed, "What on earth are you doing to me Remus Lupin?" She muttered to herself as she fished out some parchment and her quill and began her reply.

'Hello,

You don't need to thank me, Rem, I'm just incredibly happy and glad that it worked. I hate seeing you in pain, you don't deserve it, so I will do anything (and everything) I can to make sure that you don't go through it again. Don't worry about the cost, please.

Remus, I told you not to get me anything for Christmas. I hope you guys have fun, I wish I was there but I'm happy here, Regulus is with me so I'm not alone.

Merry Christmas, Rem and Happy New Year. I'll see you soon, hopefully we can have that Hogsmeade visit soon, that is if you'd like? (I completely understand if you wouldn't want to though, so no pressure).

Yours truly,

Cass'

Cassiopeia could feel her cheeks burning as she re-read her letter, hoping not to sound too desperate. Part of her just wanted to rip it up, burn it and start all over again, but the sound of Regulus' calling her name from the common room stopped her thoughts from becoming actions.

With a sigh, the black haired girl shut her eyes, she placed the parchment into an empty envelope and sealing it before she could change her mind. Re-opening her piercing blue eyes, she tied the letter securely around Dixie's leg before gesturing to the window. She watched as the small owl flapped her wings, flying right out and disappearing from view almost instantly.

"Cassiopeia! Come on, I'm hungry!"

Cass rolled her eyes but stood up anyways, "Calm your tits, I'm coming down now!"
