That night

Millie dragged herself out of bed the next morning. She yawned and stretched out her body. It was painful to wake up that morning.

She went to the kitchen and made breakfast and a coffee. She ate slowly and enjoyed her every bite and sip. After breakfast she brushed her teeth, washed her face and got dressed. For some unknown reason she picked out a black skater dress with small pink flowers covering it. She paired it with a pair of white sneakers and let her hair hang loose over her shoulders. She put on some mascara and even a little bit of clear lip gloss.

She left the house with enough time to get to the store on time. She did the usual morning routine and when she was ready, she flipped the sign from closed  to open. As usual, Mrs. Ever was the first one. She took her usual look around the store, grabbed some flowers and two yellow candles.

The rest of the morning was slow. Two costumers came by and bought ornaments and flowers. Around noon, Millie's mom arrived and took over. Millie had to be at the restaurant soon after, so instead of going home, she went to Sandwiches & Salads and bought herself a sandwich for lunch. She walked down to the shore and ate it while listening to the waves.

"Millie, table four is asking for you." Becca announced when she returned to the kitchen.

That's strange, Millie thought. People usually didn't ask for her specifically.

Millie looked around the corner and noticed Tod and Camille St James at table four.

Oh, no.

Millie swallowed and took a deep breath. She plastered on her best business smile and walked in the direction of table four.

"Miss Donovan." Camille St James greeted Millie when she approached their table. Tod looked up as well.

"Welcome to Nate's Place, how may I be of your service?" Millie asked and handed them their menus. Tod St James grabbed his menu and began looking through it. Camille on the other hand seemed chatty.

"How did you enjoy yesterday, miss Donovan?" she asked Millie. Millie didn't really feel like talking, especially not to Camille St James. She didn't want to admit to having had funnier than she ever imagined that she could. She stuck with something short instead.

"It was good, thanks."

Camille nodded while Tod ordered his drink. "Andrew didn't say much last night. And he went out late at night as well." Millie remembered Nate's call about Andrew having had come by the restaurant asking for her.

"At least we got along." Millie shrugged and turned to go get their drinks.

When she had served the couple St James, she took a short break. She threw a glance at her phone for the first time since she started working her shift, and to her surprise, a new text waited for her.

Andrew: Do you like coca cola, or do you prefer something else?

Was he actually planning a...date? Millie stared at her screen and reread the question over and over again, trying to ignore the flutters in her stomach. She replied.

Millie: Coca cola is fine.

She then sent him another text. Just to give him a heads up, in case he was planning to come by again.

Millie: Your parents are here, by the way.

She put her phone back in her purse. She then glanced out into the restaurant and noticed that the St James' looked about finished. She walked into the restaurant to make herself available and began filling up some napkins on some empty tables.
