The silence was killing me. Kalcifer turned and gave a little nod to one of his group.

"So...What’s this job?" I asked.

He turned back to me. "Your job..." He says, making quote marks in the air, a cat-like grin slipping slowly across his ancient face. He pauses.

"Uh...Yeah...My job?" He smiled wider.

“Your job would be to go to the human world. There is a matter we would like you to take care of…"

Before I could argue or moan, one of the other cult members spoke.

"May I also add that you have no matter of choice in this. You will be going to the human world, or your funds will be cut." I gritted my teeth and forced back the words I wouldn't dare say now they had started saying the consequences.

You see, in the Demon world, everyone is supplied with funds from the elders. It allows you to eat, have a home, everything. Of coarse, richer Demons don’t need funds. But my father was small and weak. He died without anything so much as a penny for me. If the elders cut my funds, I will be stuffed. I'd have to steal, but the penalty for stealing down here is pretty darn bad. So I’m stuck with being a lower worker for the elders. Stuck having to do stupid things for them.

"I take it you understand?" One of them snarled. I gave a little huff as they began to tell me the details.
