You had just moved to New York City from Canada, so not only did you have to learn new words for different things but you had to learn the areas of the large bustling city since the town you had come from was at least a quarter of the size. But you did find your apartment easily enough without getting lost so that had been a bonus of the day. Your parents were still in Canada with your younger siblings, but your grandparents lived just a few blocks away and were always calling you.

It was about 21.05 and you had put the rubbish in the outside dumpster, you were wearing a pair of leggings and your favourite hoodie; when a clatter came from the alley, but when you looked up you saw nothing.
“Hello,” you called to the clatter, but there was no response, “Is there anyone there,” you entered the alley thinking that someone may need your help.
Since back in your town, you were always willing to help someone out, what you didn’t realise at that moment was the person who needed help was yourself.

Suddenly several people in black outfits grabbed you and held you by the tops of your arms in hard, powerful holds that hurt you, whilst a woman walked towards you with some sort of military weapon directed at your head.
“Last chance reptile,” she shouted into the darkness whilst you shook in fear, “You wouldn’t want to be the cause of the death of this civilian, now would you.”
The woman was of Japanese origin but had a strong American accent, whilst the others whom you assumed were men, with their thick banded muscle that protruded from their clothing, remained silent.

There was no noise, it was quiet, aside from a gentle breeze that swirled around and rustled a plastic bag by the overflowing dumpster and then the bustle of the main part of the city in the distance. Then there was a thump as something with a great weight landed behind you, you couldn’t turn; you were held tight by the men in black, whose grip was starting to hurt, so you stayed still and listened to the conversation that was starting.
“Leave her out of this,” a man’s voice rose above the hustle and bustle of the city hum, “She has done nothing wrong.”
“Charmed to know that you care about someone who will no doubt will freak out when she sees you,” she snarled, “Since that is what you are.”
“You can talk,” you suddenly found yourself talking out loud to her, “Have you seen yourself lately, you could do with a makeover.”
SLAP, the power of the swing forced your head to the side as the mystery woman slapped your face hard.
“You be quiet you little wretch,” she snarled, fire in her eyes.
“Why, why should you belittle someone like him, sorry I don’t know your name Sir, but he is probably ten times more powerful to challenge and to win a fight with you,” you stare into her eyes, you hated bullying, whether it was school or racist.
“HOW DARE YOU,” you watched as she raised her fist, before closing your eyes and waiting. But the blow never came; in fact the grip on your shoulders disappeared also.

You looked around and noticed their unconscious bodies on the ground, but there was also no rescuer either,
“Hello, please I want to thank you,” you called out twirling around.
“You’re welcome,” the response came from the shadows behind you.
“In person,” you pushed, internally rolling your eyes.
“You don’t want to do that, you’ll just freak and scream like the rest of the population,” he sighed bitterly.
“I won’t,” you frowned.

You gasped as an over six foot giant turtle appeared out of the shadows,
“Go on, scream,” he waited.
“You’re a giant turtle,” you blink but did not run, you didn’t know what but, something was making you stay.
“I’m a freak of nature, yes, now go and scream,” he said getting impatient.
“I never judge a person by their looks, just like I never judge a book by its cover,” you stand proudly.
Instead of running, you actually walk towards him and indicate with your finger for him to come down to your level. As he does so, you kiss him softly on the cheek,
“Thank you for saving tonight...” you froze not knowing his name.
“Leonardo,” he gave you a small smile and you notice his light blue eyes covered by a royal blue mask.
“Leonardo,” you breathe softly before blinking, “Anyway I had better get back to my apartment,” you walk away before turning around again to see him climbing the fire escape.
“Will I ever see you again,” he looks down and smiles at you.
“Perhaps,” his smile wavers, “I’m sorry I didn’t quite catch your name.”
“It’s (Y/N),” you reply.
“(Y/N),” he muses, “A beautiful name for a beautiful young lady,” he smiles down at you before disappearing into the night as quietly as the breeze. You blush before heading towards your apartment, a good day had an amazing ending; you unlocked the door and headed inside with a blush and a smile on your face.
