Lament for the Falling Nation

America, oh America,

Where shall you go?

Will your people be proud and free,

Or slaves with wills long broke?

From oppression and misery did she rise,

To stand a light for the world,

A land for the free,

And home to the brave.

Yet by time and tide do all things change,

Be they mountains or men,

To sate the undeniable will of the many,

Even when only the few hold goodness to heart.

Oh America, why do you sleep,

While your people wail in great despair,

Their rights and freedoms being atrophied,

That greedy men may gain more power?

Why, once great nation,

Did you allow darkness to poison your heart,

and forget your path of justice,

And let your torch lie flickering in the mud?

What shall we be,

If not the great Republic of freedom,

The land of equality and honor,

Where all have a chance of happiness?

Shall we fall to corruption as so many before,

Will America drink her people blood as did Russia,

Or follow China in starving the millions for “the greater good”,

And forevermore lose her once glorious way?

Now do the few stand watching many ends approaching,

While the many remain crushed but complacent,

So ignorant are they of true danger looming,

Ready to swallow everyone whole.

Is this nation doomed, then?

Is it condemned to fall,

as so many have before it?

Can America rise before time runs out?
