Davonn

September 15, 2015 – Wednesday 5:00 am

I felt something heavy at the edge of my bed.
"Bun! Wake up!"
It was my sister but I can't tell if it's Gewel or Odette but I know Gewel stopped calling me Bun. I blinked a few times looking at the glowing red numbers next to me.
12:00 am
"What are you doing here? It's midnight I—"
My voice was caught by my wrist watch ticking louder and louder which made me looked at my hand; I don't remember having this wrist watch.
"Bun bun bun bun bun--"
She said on and on, her sweet voice turning into this distorted demonic like voice. I whipped my head once I hear a fork being dragged against a plate coming from my door, I shut my eyes closed, hoping that it will stop, It did.
I slowly opened them, I'm no longer in my bedroom, I was standing at a long hallway.
I can hear voices coming from the end of the hallway. I don't trust it so I opened the door to my right and went inside.
Everything was pitch black, I was walking around when suddenly I heard a click; it made me follow the noise. In a single spotlight there was a box, it opened by itself.
I curiously walked up to the box and I found an old ragged sock, placed in the middle.
I heard scratching; that made my head turn around and I saw nothing but the scratching stopped and after looking behind, my eyes went back to the box.
The sock was nowhere to be found; I heard the voices again followed by the scratching which made my head turn to look again. The ragged sock was on the floor crawling towards me, there was no hand controlling it. The noise was singing harmoniously, enough to send chills down my spine. The sock started floating and it was trying to talk? Like someone's hand was inside making it talk.
It was trying to argue with me and then it started screaming. I can't say anything , I tried moving but It felt like heavy water pulling my arms and legs.
The whole room was filled with different noise, I was drowning.
I gave up and covered my ears, yelling, hoping it'll go away.

I heard the loud whistle of a kettle being boiled that oddly made all the sounds go away. I grabbed my sheets, the ceiling greeted me.
I'm awake, sweating.
I looked at my clock, 5:00
"Shit." I got up and rubbed my eyes, waiting for my vision to clear up and noticed that my door was slightly opened, that explains why I can hear the kettle whistling.

I was caressing my wrist like something was there, like that watch from my dream.
"Theo!" Mom called as I got up and started walking.
"Odette was trying to wake you up." She said as she turned off the stove as I lean on the counter.
"And left my door opened." I grumbled.
"Breakfast is ready. You're going to be late."
I pulled a chair and sat down.
"Bun!" Odette greeted me with a hug.
"Hey." I said weakly, I want to shut my eyes and sleep more.
"You okay?" Gewel sat next to me and Odette in my right. Odette was grabbing a box of cereal and pouring milk into her bowl; she started pouring the cereal, the milk was splashing everywhere as it falls into the bowl. Gewel was sipping coffee using Dad's mug while reading the front page of a newspaper.
"All nighter." I answered
"Because?"
"Projects."
"My ass."
"Gewel!" Mom exclaimed who's just in the kitchen while sipping on her coffee.
"She got it from Dad." I said, feeling Gewel's eyes burning but I know she feels guilty about it.
"Mommy?" All of us looked at Odette even though she just called Mom. Her innocence keeps the house's insanity steady.
It took her a second to say it; she was digging in her bowl.
"When can I get a tattoo?" For a minute there I saw a fountain of coffee coming from Mom's Cup
"Odette!"
We started laughing but I can see Odette was serious about it.
"When I was your age I was asking when can I get my own room?'' She was coughing out her coffee and wiping her mouth with her pink apron.
"Wait for Mom to get her tools then." I whispered to Odette
"Theo, Don't encourage your her!" she said taking another sip but slightly coughing again
Odette looked at Mom and I can see her batting her eyelashes.
"But I want to have one like Mommy."
I finished my toast and messed up Odette's hair.
"Bun, no!"
She folded her arms and I head inside the bathroom to get ready.

I was yawning throughout my commute to school. I held on to the rail trying to keep myself awake. When I got off and started walking to school, a bunch of brown leaves was taking their flight from the branches, the wind was messing up my hair. I don't even know if the dream I had was considered as a nightmare, It was frustrating to the point I offended Gewel but she attacked first so let's set that aside. I fixed my hair as I arrived in the gates of Cavansite. I noticed a lot of eyes were staring.
I opened my locker and grabbed my physics book; I shoved it inside my black leather bag. I heard the locker next door being opened as I scan my locker looking for my scarf that's been missing for days now. Maybe, I left it at Eris' place.
"Hey." The guy next to me caught my attention.
"Hmm?" I popped my head to see him. I looked at him, his eyes were green and his light brown hair was covering his other eye. He immediately fixed his hair to look at me.
"Leaves."
"Huh?" I raised an eyebrow as I shut my locker.
"Your hair is full of em, man."
I touched my hair and one brown leaf fell from my hair; feeling the small leaves poking out, I combed it out as hard as I can and ended up shaking my head.
"Is it gone?"
He gave me a small nod and faced his locker.
His locker was filled with books.
A 100 miles away from graduation written by A.B. Pines
Ten ways to finally get there written by Blu Orlando
Bronze to Gold written by Aileen Wood
Geez, That's a lot of coming of age novels. He's going to look back someday and cringe about it. Well, Dylan's boy band phase was worse than this. I remember reminding him that and he had to shove random words loudly and people in class started looking at him, best day of my life, too bad Eris was not present that time.
"You're the guy who usually sleeps on that red bench next to a vending machine, right?"
the jersey shirt caught my eye
"Tram, number 19 football?"
"Baseball." He corrected
"Right.." I awkwardly said, right in cue the first bell rang.
"Thanks, Tram." I placed the lock.
"Anytime-- uhh.."
"Davonn." I said clicking the lock in place and started walking.
