"So, you said you wanted to talk to me about something?"

|s h o r t p a u s e| "Yeah, in fact, I did. We met at this grocery store totally coincidentally, but she didn't really acknowledge me there. I got home and there was a text from her."

"She apologized, said that we both were angry when we had that huge fight a month back and that we both said a lot of things that we really didn't mean. She said she cried that night. And then we talked for a few hours."
|d r e a d| "So you guys are back together?"
"I mean...not really."
"Ok, so you guys are being friends?"
"..."
"Um...not exactly."
|f r u s t r a t i o n| "Then what are you guys?"
|s i g h| "I don't know."
°t h o u g h t° Well, of course you won't know, 'cuz you are lying to me, you asshole. Do you think I am dumb? I saw your fucking profile picture that you put for five minutes, you idiot. I know exactly what that meant.
"What the hell do you mean, I don't know. How can you not know?"
"What do you want me to say? I don't have the time or energy for this."
|a n o t h e r d e e p b r e a t h| "Fine. Just tell me the truth for what I am asking. At least this once. I have told you so many times I hate lying and I hate people who lie."
"Okay."
"Why did you say you like me?"
"'Cuz I did!"
"Oh sure, let's say I believe that. And then you lost interest in two fucking days?! And for what? An ex who isn't even sure if she wants you in her life?"
"I... I just told you what's on my mind."
|s c o f f| "Do you even hear yourself right now?! I clearly asked you if you still liked her when you confessed your feelings for me. And do you remember what you told me? A clear NO. N. O. I even have the screenshot of it if you don't believe me."
"I was feeling lonely that night, and I felt closer to you than anything. You were there for me and it just came out."
"Is this an excuse I am hearing? Really? I just asked you to give me a few days' time to think about it, because of everything happening and you know that. You know what all shit I am going through. And still, you do this to me?"
"I am sorry -"
"And you also know that I like you so freaking much. For the longest time. And I have been there for you every single time Beth fucked up. You literally told me I am the only person who is always there for you. And then on top of that, you lie to me, when you know that's one thing I absolutely despise and I have even called you out on that a lot of time. Every time I forgave you because I was blinded by my affections for you."
"Holly, listen to me -"
"Shut up and let me finish. I understand that you didn't really have closure with her since she ghosted you after that fight and I know how hard that must have been for you to get over. I understand all that. I thought maybe... maybe, since you knew how it felt like to get your feelings played, you won't do it to me. Which is the reason I decided to consider what you said even after everything that happened between us two years back. Because I genuinely believed you were a nice person."
"I am sorry, Holly. I really didn't know all of this will happen. Otherwise obviously I wouldn't have asked you out that day."
|d i s b e l i e f| "Of course you wouldn't have known all this would happen! What - what kind of shitty argument is that?! When you were talking to her, did you for even one second pause to think what kind of an effect this would have on me?"
"I didn't think you would take all this so seriously. I mean, you were so chill about it and I really didn't think much of it."
"Wow. You really are very self centered. Thanks for clarifying that."
"Holly, listen to me. I really do value you. And whatever I said that night was true. I don't want to lose you."
"Were you ever planning to tell me, unless I wheedled it out of you? I am genuinely curious, what was your plan? Just go on as if nothing happened? Keep lying to me? What if I said I wanted to date you? Will you have just strung both of us along?"
|g a s p| "What are you even saying?! What kind of person do you even take me for? I thought you knew me."
"Well, obviously I don't, it would seem. You know how I got to know? Because you were acting very distant. And that only happens when she is involved. And I was absolutely right. After all, I really might know you, huh."
"I am so tired of being your backup plan."
|s i g h| "I apologized. What more do you want me to do?"
"..."
"Holly?"
"Yes."
"..."
"I don't want to lose this friendship. Please. I didn't mean to hurt you."
"You are always lying to me. Even now. Please don't play with my feelings anymore. Look, since we are long distance, I don't want to block all areas of contact with you, in case of any emergency. I will, however, block you on every other social media except Snapchat. You can text me there if there is a dire need, but if you text me unnecessarily, I will block you there too. So don't call or text me anymore. "
"I really don't want to lose this friendship."

So, i decided to write a dialogue short story since i have been seeing it around wattpad a lot lately, and thought, why not. It could be fun.😁 And the aesthetics don't hurt either. I am sorry if this snippet isn't as clear. Feel free to ask anything!
